This is what happened with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a few years ago. The Glazers put bare minimal money in and the squad was dreadful until the fans started cancelling season tickets and not showing to games. Then they started spending money again.
No it's not what happened a few years ago and no they didn't start to spend due to season tickets cancelling.

This signing is not going to happen. Accept it now rather than punish yourselves for the next 10 days.

Shite article I'm sorry.

Its just more of the same.

Were not interested.

Oh ok thought you were....

Forwards 6 months......

Hey Lisbon heres an offer.....

Sorry United we want more.

Were not paying more than spurs were willing to pay for someone we don't want.

Well We want more. Spurs offer was an insult.

United organise a media leak. Allegedly.

Deal off and its because Lisbon want more. Allegedly.

Your post makes no sence. Maybe it's because it's horrendously formatted...

it’s more then a few years now, we’re talking like 6-8 years ago or so? Early 2010s. The Bucs had one of the biggest amount of cap room in the league. Then they went and got a bunch of free agents, most of whom sucked. Whether low ticket sales, attendance, etc played a big part who knows. Doesn’t really matter though, because the common thread is when the Glazers took over Tampa and Manchester United there were people already at the club who were competent. In both situation those people moved on the Glazers have yet to find replacements who are as good at their jobs

It's ridiculous to try and leverage any insight from the Buccs. They've been a franchise for 45 years and were never good, not even decent. One Superbowl title and 10 playoff appearances in that time, ergo, they've always been shit.

:D OK then.

Frankly not even going to argue this because my friend who lives in Tampa was one of the people who done it.

No, the Bucs have had a normal cap room in the last 10 years and didn't do anything special, the entire thing is wrong. And that's not how cap management works anyway, you don't spend it just for the sake of it because you have to think about players that you will have to resign in the future and also look at who you may target in future free agency markets. Free agents are also generally subpar and overpaid, that's why most of them are they free agents in the first place.

And as Dwazza said the Bucs are a bad example anyway, there only period of success has been under the Glazers and it's not even close.

Yeah it was around that time. I said a few years ago, I should of been more precise.

He may have done it but he achieved nothing. The issue for them in the last 10 years is simply that their division rivals had far better QBs which is near impossible to fix outside of lucking your way to a high draft pick in a good QB draft, which are rare.

I really think the deal is more or less complete and its just papers trying to generate more clicks. I don't think either club can afford not complete the sale. The player has been touted around Europe all summer and now Jan too. He is probably going to become extremely frustrated if Sporting do not negotiate a deal again. Reputable journalists have also reported we have been negotiating a deal - and the club can't face a PR disaster of not signing this player so it will get done. What is happening now is just each club trying to get the best deal for themselves, but it will happen and I think it is already quite close.

Also guys Fernandes is not an 8. The fact that he tracks back a lot does not make him an 8. What 8 player scores and assists the amount of goals he has done. You are misinterpreting work rates with position. He is best in and around the final third, that is where his price tag is worth. He also drops out wide a lot does that make him a winger? no.

I am sure he would drop deeper if United asked if it benefitted the team but then you are negating him of his best qualities as a player. If you are paying 70M for him then play him where he is most effective.
He’s a 10

It has to happen. We need him and an attacker, short term if it must be.

Needing or not needing Bruno is not even a discussion at this point. He's a quality player available at a decent price when we need him - which is feckin yesterday! Not only that, we need probably two more if we're to get top 4 which is clearly there for the taking if we show some feckin ambition and get the cheque book out. I'm in the camp of 'we will get this done, eventually', but would be gutted if we don't.

Solskjaer talking about looking to do some short term deals to get through to summer should pretty much confirm this isn't happening

Seems that way for sure.

There's going to be some mighty unrest in midweek versus Burnley. Fans have had enough now.

Woodward needs kidnapping and throwing in a well somewhere in outer Mongolia.

Glazers need to feck off and sell up before things start getting ugly. And they will.

Was that not just about strikers?

This deal needs to happen now. Without rashford if we're relying on martial he needs service

yes, i also think, since the question was about strikers specifically, and not just transfers in general

:nono: are you implying Jameis isn't the goat?!??! Put some respect on that man. Who else has ever put up a 30/30 season? And how he set the record? Pure poetry!

Is this still rumbling on? I haven't paid much attention to it as I think it now dead in the water, any positive tweets today from decent sources?
Well the best I can offer you was Simon Stone's tweet on Saturday where he said he'd be surprised if it didn't happen.

I know social media accounts generally don't mean anything but think there could be something in that instagram post from Bruno tonight.

Maybe I am wrong but think it is his way of saying to Sporting he wants to prove he can make it at a higher level.

He has also got pictures of him superimposed in a Utd shirt on the profile too.

Convinced that City link is Sporting saying to Utd either up your offer to €60+ addons or no deal.

You've got to ask the question, why wasn't it sorted before the window?
Because the club was unsure about him, like they were in the summer.
Now,what has changed ? injuries.
Would we have shown interest had Pogba and McTom stayed fit ? imo, highly unlikely.

Everyone else knew we needed both more quality and more personnel for when the inevitable happens though, that's what I'm getting at. The club seems to think we can get by on a threadbare squad.

Replacing a terrible player with a good one will make no difference?? Pereira fecked up nearly every attack we had today. Fernandes is a goal and assist machine. How the hell would it make no difference?
The level of competition must be taken into account. Sporting Lisbon have apparently asked for the same Pereira in return so that should say something.

This'll get done now, classic United to take minds off of a defeat and the news about Rashford
‘Classic United’ to go and spend £70m because fans are upset at losing a game? A game away to the runaway leaders and CL Champions at that. There is absolutely no way we will buy a player, for big money, because we lost a football match and interneters are throwing their toys out. And nor should we.

The club and owners thought United would get by with a threadbare squad this season because *drum-roll* there's no major ambition or target.

At the start of the season there was more talk about United cutting down the squad numbers, promoting youth and generally having United go through a transitional phase.
And that has pretty much come true.

Ole and United have hardly been subtle about the need to re-build the foundations at the club, through the first team, youth teams, scouting set-up etc.
You didn't hear much from within the club about us desperately trying to get back into the CL or competing for major titles in a years time.

The Portugese league isn't amazing but if you are the undisputed best player in it you are a decent footballer. Hasn't he been scoring in Europe too?
