A quality performance. Wanted to rip my hair out with that tame side foot shot that went wide when he was in acres of space, but aside from that he was the only good thing about us.

Obviously. My point is that Bruno for example is not a solution. It is the one behind him who can protect the defence and start the attack.

I mean you have half of peak Matic and see what he can do in terms of composure when we are in possession. Get that guy first.
If that’s the case; then I’m in total agreement. I want Bruno Fernandes nowhere near this club personally.

Results determine narratives, but he was the man of the match today. Certainly better than any Liverpool midfielder.

In fact, I think he's genuinely just better than any Liverpool midfielder. If he could shoot and a bit more inventive in the final third, he'd be an almost perfect player. He plays every minute of every match and works his socks off, always shows for the ball in intelligent ways, and keeps the ball moving excellently. As I say, results determine narratives, and because the team as a whole is underperforming he's not been recognised nearly enough, but he'd probably be rights fit into a premier league team of the year so far. If he played in an actually good team, like Liverpool or City, or if he played for somebody like Barca, I honestly think there'd be a consensus that he's in the top 20 midfielders in the world. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if a team like Barca came in for him if we don't make the champions league.

Poor 1st half , excellent second half. Should have tested their keeper in 2nd half though.

Do you think Henderson, Wijnaldom and AOC are better than Fred?
You can't compare player vs player without the context of the way their own team play. Fred's stats might be better than some from top team. But, the bottom line is that we need a different type for us. I don't mean Fred has to go. What I mean is that if Fred becomes a squad player for us, our midfield standard would be pretty good.

Love him.

Can still be massively untidy and careless with the ball and I don’t know what the deal is with his shooting. He’s a good, brave, player however and his attitude is second to none.

Get him. At least, try to get him. Many people shit on me that Fergie left the team in dire state, but him and Herrera under Fergie would be cracking. Anyway, Fred is fine, least of our worries atm.

Another very good game. Between him and Rashford for our POTY I think and I reckon he could get it if he keeps this up. Just please stay injury free.

There were times today when watching him I was thinking imagine how much better this Liverpool team would be with this version of Fred in their ranks. He’d fit perfectly in to what they do

As usual ball of energy. Sloppy moments, sloppy passes, brilliant moments, brilliant passes. Easily man of the match for me and I had everything crossed hoping he was gonna sneak that side foot in.

I felt sorry for Fred today. He was excellent in breaking up play and winning the lose balls and he looks up and in front of him is Perreira who kept giving the ball away or could not find a decent pass to our forwards. The last 10 minutes he had Mata in front of him and he was so much more effective...with the right attacking options Fred will be so much better

They say Thiago is a big game bottler so he’d be fine with us in the Europa.

As for Fred, his best game for us.

He was great today, never stopped running, good at recycling the ball, had a bite on tackles, just the shooting was off as always.

It depends on how you want to structure your midfield. A ‘controlling’ DM isn’t a footballing necessity.
If we’re going to play with a proper advanced 10, then I would say we’ll need someone who sits next to Fred, like Carrick. I don’t mean a destroyer type, but someone who’s genuinely comfortable under pressure.

Only one of two players on the pitch today who gave everything they had, the other being Shaw (who impressed me after I thought he was finished).

Fred was literally everywhere and kept things ticking over and harassed well, so, much like Herrera we'll probably get rid of him too.

Come on leaps this season. Looks like he needs a rest. One of only a few players who can hold their heads up high this season. Needs personal around him bringing in asap.

Outstanding performance, he's had a breakthrough season but this was his true moment of arrival, given how tired even AWB looked it was amazing to see Fred's engine still on full crank. he drove the team forward against the best team in the country in front of a den of hyenas, well done Fredrick!

Our best player today, not saying much longterm imo.
I was waiting for it. What happened to the long list of things he couldn't do? What does not saying much long term actually mean anyway?

He’s been like a new signing this season now that a certain Frenchman appears to have left. He’s becoming a top quality all action midfielder and could be a key part of our revival whenever we decide to appoint an actual manager.

......and you say you have no agenda.
No agenda, I rated him a 7 today, I admire his attitude and the amount of work he puts in. Longterm I don’t think he is good enough in defense nor in attack, unless we find a balance and play him in a midfield 3 which would compliment him better.

You can see now why Guardiola wanted him. Everybody thought it was a joke at first but he would have got this level out of Fred straight away. Mourinho never trusted him and it took an injury for Pogba to get enough playing time to show it, but he's playing class right now. We haven't had a midfielder be able to steal the ball and break the defensive lines like that for a long time.

Imagine the current version of Fred playing in a midfield with, a vaguely interested, Pogba.

Another fantastic game from Fred. At the heart of everything we do. At this point, he wouldn't look out of place in the Liverpool or City side to me. I rate his performances that highly over the last couple of months. He's been an absolute breath of fresh air.

My favourite player in the Premier League. He just never stops and ok his shots are pretty poor but boy does he put in a shift week in week out but you need some quality alongside him as he is going into a gunfight with a knife every week.

Nice to see him getting some recognition from the likes of Neville.

Personally, I think this insistence on playing a 10 will hold us back completely.

Has been quality away at City and Liverpool which is some feat considering how poor this Utd side are.

Reminded me very much of that performance from Anderson in 2007 at Anfield.

Thought he is by far our best player away at Liverpool. Was everywhere on the pitch, attacking and defending. With Pogba and Mctominay back months later I would like to see midfield trio of Mctominay, Pogba and Fred for sure.

I think Fred & Pogba in midfield will be good enough in midfield & if it isn't that's more to do with our CB's.

Get a CAM who does some defensive work too, drop Lindelof & our core gets stronger.

Especially if we have players like AWB who are better in defence we need our defence to possibly take that role more.

It would be interesting if there was an 'engagement' stat because for all the 'dribbled past' and 'bad touches' measures, how many times did he put a foot in, close down the ball when it was 5-10 yards away, show for the ball in awkward situations, play out of the press despite being one of the 3-4 last men (i.e dangerous situations) etc.

We miss Pogba and Rashford massively. Imagine the former ahead of Fred and Matic. We would be absolutely running the midfield against most teams with a lethal left sided attack.

I have to say I don’t normally reply to opinions (one off), but this must be the worst WUM (multiple) surely. MOTM. Hardly touched the ball from 50-80 minutes. Maybe I watched a different game.

Class today. Been improving a lot in recent weeks breaking up play and getting us up the pitch as well as losing possession in dangerous areas a lot less. Starting to see why we signed him so hopefully he keeps it up.

Agree. Personally i think that playing with a 10 is pretty outdated. Just like playing with wingers who will have "chalk at their boots" or a big strong number 9 who will stay in the box to tap it in.

Two players at 8 with someone who is also able to play football besides just destroy at 6 is the most used tactic now i think.

Fred behind Pogba and Bruno could work i think. Fred can run around and defend. Pogba can help defending a bit, make some of his runs towards the goal once every so often but also be able to still use his long range passing when he doesnt move forward. Bruno could move closer towards the striker when attacking but also move back a bit and do some defending when Manchester United is defending.

Although i am not 100% sure if Fred is the right player for that. Is he 'safe' enough to play in that role?

Fred isn't a player who will just sit and defend. He's not that type of midfielder. He's a box-to-box all action type that is excellent at pressing from the front. What we need is a Carrick type (asking a lot I know) who provides defensive solidity but has the passing range from deep and can help control tempo.

Wouldnt Fred be able to play a bit like Kante did for Pogba during the world cup for example? Not fully focused on pure defending but leaving the more attacking responsibilities to Pogba?

When typing this i think i have to mention that i am not part of the 'Pogba-out' group and i dont think he is lazy and cant defend. Obviously for this to work Pogba would need to do some defending too... however i think he is more than capable of doing that.
