Are you ok? he listed a bunch of minor titles like community shields and league cups, which I stated more than once I didn’t even care to do for Neymar besides mentioning them in passing.

I listed like 60% of the shit Neymar has won collectively and individually and it still has more major titles than Beckham

Behave yourself.
Is a cup in England worth less than one in France or Spain?
You did list his league cup type trophies by the way.
As well as listing his one Ligue 1 poty, which isn’t very impressive given the quality of the league.

I listed the French cup. Not the French league cup. Same for Spain.

We have the FA cup here, as well as the league cup. So do those countries.

Go Wikipedia him, and you’ll see I didn’t.

Neymar is a legend, just for another generation. He has 133 million followers in Instagram alone. It's really funny how people's dislike of him, which I can understand, translates into the constant underrating of his ability or achievements.

I’m aware, but the guy you quoted mentions Becks’ FA cups, not league cups, at which point you said league cup type trophies are minor.
Do you understand the confusion?
Not to mention that any cup win in France is worth nothing compared to the trophies Beckham won at United, it’s literally a one team league.

Yeah , but Beckham created the whole image of a footballer being so marketable, and for that alone he needs be respected as legend, he started this “new age “ of image, in my opinion.

A lot of its that he is a nob, and the rest is that he hasn't seemed to challenge himself (Italy, UK...).

He's an excellent footballer and years ago, I thought he might push Ronaldo or Messi but they've continued at top level (and with Ronaldo, tried other top leagues), Neymar hasn't?

I guess it's not that he isn't good (he clearly is), it's that he hasn't got the levels people thought he could have... should have.
He's probably been the best player in the world in 2020, though it won't matter for most until he does it as well in the CL, but those injuries keep pestering him.

Should have worded it better but I consider charity shield and league cups type trophies, minor trophies.

Not to mention that any cup win in France is worth nothing compared to the trophies Beckham won at United, it’s literally a one team league.
I disagree. Many would argue a significant amount of Beckham trophies came when the premier league was a 2 horse race.

Either way, I’m not about to do this.

Neymar is a legend.

Neymar’s catalog > Beckham’s.

That’s fair, but if the FA cup is minor then so is the Copa and French version.
A significant amount of Beckhams trophies in England were when it was a two horse race, which is a lot different to PSG’s situation in their league.
French titles simply don’t matter to most people outside of France, for good reason.
If Neymar had stayed at Barca you’d probably have a case for him being a bigger legend than Beckham, but not when he left for the easy life in Paris, wasting his prime years.
He might be a better footballer, but his impact on football isn’t bigger than Beckhams at all.

Neymar has won a UCL as top scorer. That's already more than Beckham has done

I don't think that anyone is doubting Beckham's status as a footballing legend.

Instagram followers: the true measure of a footballing legend.
Well, since the actual achievements and ability were already ruled out as a matter of measure in this thread... And the whole angle of modern footballer's image being defined by something outside of football probably shouldn't be brought up in a thread where his direct competitor is David Beckham?

Beckham and Neymar are not comparable as footballers, would be like comparing Ronaldinho and Lampard.

What’s that got to do with Neymar being a legend?

Neymar has a world club cup, and bunch of community shield and league cup type titles i didn’t care to list by the way. Didnt even mention most of his accolades whilst in Brazil, Olympic medals, and world young player of the year stuff.

He’s a better player than Beckham ever was and he’s already had a better career.

But again, despite Neymar’s CV dwarfing Beckham’s, I don’t even understand why you listed Beckham’s stuff

You've just been shown quite the opposite.

As shown by tons of other potential Brazil's all-time top scorers?
Well yes there has been other top scorers like Fred etc.

I listed the French cup. Not the French league cup. Same for Spain.

We have the FA cup here, as well as the league cup. So do those countries.

You clearly don't understand the cup system in England. The FA cup is the second biggest domestic trophy. The league cup is different. And the community shield is basically a league super cup. Anyway, Beckham has won more than Neymar and has more personal honours so not sure of your point.

My point is Beckham is a legend and icon whilst Neymar still has work to do to reach that level. R9 and Ronaldinho are legends, he isn't (yet).

I don’t find the FA cup minor. I find the league cup minor. When I said league cup type trophies I was referring to the charity shields that poster had listed. I group league cup and charity shields together as minor trophies hence “league cup type” trophies, but that was my damage as I admittedly I should have worded it better.

A significant amount of Beckhams trophies in England were when it was a two horse race, which is a lot different to PSG’s situation in their league.
French titles simply don’t matter to most people outside of France, for good reason.

it’s people’s prerogative to dismiss French titles. I don’t subscribe to that stance at all, and find it quite ignorant. Yes, PSG dominates the French league. So did United during Beckham’s time, as did Barcelona. The “easy life” designation seems arbitrary, actually, it’s not arbitrary at all, more like, bias accommodating.

My argument was that Neymar is a legend. People randomly threw Beckham’s achievements at me. Neymar’s CV is considerably more comprehensive, and he isn’t even in his 30s. And yes, he’s by far a better player than Beckham.

I haven't. This was your post about Beckham's trophies:

Becks
6 PL titles
2 FA cup
4 Community shield
1 World club cup
1 European cup
1 Spanish title
1 French title
3 US titles
This is Neymar:

Campeonato Paulista - 3x
La Liga - 2x
Ligue 1 - 2x
Copa Libertadores - 1x
UCL - 1x
Copa do Brasil - 1x
Copa Del Rey - 3x
Coupe de France - 1x
Supercopa de Espana - 1x
Coupe de la Ligue - 1x
Trophee des Champions - 1x
Recopa Sudamericana - 1x
Fifa Club World Cup - 1x
Confederations cup - 1x
Summer Olympics - 1x

Anyway, Beckham has won more than Neymar and has more personal honours so not sure of your point.
He hasn't. It's merely fan-fiction you're writing.

My point is Beckham is a legend and icon whilst Neymar still has work to do to reach that level. R9 and Ronaldinho are legends, he isn't (yet).
Besides it being false, with Neymar having achieved more than Beckham, it's a point I wasn't arguing. So again, I'm yet to understand why you threw Beckham's accolades at me? Do you go to cancer fund raisers and randomly shout "what about HIV"?

Neymar is on course to become Brazil’s all time top scorer. Of course he’s a legend.

And let’s be honest, he’s a better footballer than Beckham ever was.
Any mug can score goals in the Copa America and qualifiers. What's your point? He's not a legend. He's killing his career off in France and can't stay fit.

Beckham was an absolute boss of the game.
As shown by tons of other potential Brazil's all-time top scorers?
Well yes there has been other top scorers like Fred etc.
Fred has 18 goals for Brazil. Neymar is on 61, 1 less than Luís Ronaldo. The only one ahead of them is Pelé, behind him are Romário, Zico, Rivaldo, Jairzinho and other legends. Can you show me any other mug that did what Neymar did, since it's that easy?

1x Libertadores
2x La Liga
3x Copa Del Rey
1x CL
2x Ligue Un
1x Coupe De France
1x Confederations cup
1x Libertadores MVP
2x South American player of the year
1x Ligue 1 player of the year
7x FIFPro team of the year

and a bunch of other minor titles. All the while getting accolades for either being top scorer or providing most assists in said tournaments.

He’s also the Brazilian with most goals in the CL and by the time he retires he’ll be Brazil’s leading goalscorer. And the guy only just turned 28.

Living legend.

Not exactly amazing is it considering most of the stuff he won was for arguably the greatest club side in recent history and its what 4-5 trophies?

Should never have gone to France his last 2-3 years have been a complete waste of time.

Good player but not a legend by a long shot at the moment.

I don't get what the argument here is. Players win stuff when they play for good/dominant teams. Barcelona had arguably the greatest club side in recent history and Neymar was part of that, not in spite of him. He had won stuff before and afterwards.

I disagree. Neymar is a legend.

You mean a forward scored more goals than a midfielder? Well I'm shocked.

Beckham has also come closer to a Balon Do'r so Beckham obviously wins right?

Both are legends btw, Neymar more of a Brazilian Legend while Beckham is a sporting legend.

His stuff for Brazil is good but even then they haven't actually won anything of note with Neymar. Not done anywhere near enough at club level to be classed a legend of the game, there's loads of mid-tier players who have much better honer lists and accolades than Neymar.

So Messi takes the credit for the best of his accolades.
The rest are good don’t get me wrong I just don’t see him as a legend of the game.
14/15 CL

R 16 - Neymar 0 / Suarez 2 / Messi 0
1/4 Final - Neymar 3 / Suarez 2 / Messi 0
1/2 Final - Neymar 3 / Suarez 0 / Messi 2
Final - Neymar 1 / Suarez 1 / Messi 0

So in the run in, Neymar scored 7 to Messi's 2.

In 15/16 Messi was out for around 3 months, Neymar carried that team and they didn't miss a beat.

A lot of you guys just hate Neymar with no real reason behind it. He is one of the best players still playing right now.

Neymar isn’t going to be remembered especially. That’s what happens when you waste your prime years in the French league instead of testing yourself against the best. Talented, but a coward who ran from the challenge of mixing it with the best.

Take away the media persona and Beckham was a very good player, and that’s about it.

It's so easy to tell who actually watches Neymar and who doesn't know about him

Let's be honest; Neymar's been the 2nd best player in the world since 2016, behind Messi. All Ronaldo media hype and fake hype aside, Neymar has been comfortably better thah him for years. Easily dwarfs Beckhams achievements in football no matter which way you want to spin it.

That's actually more than a bit, well, wank, for a player of his talent.

• Only 4 European league titles? Becks has 8.
• Only 1 CL? same as Becks.
• Highest Ballon d'Or placing, just 3rd? Becks came 2nd.

Beckham was and still is an icon of the game.

Neymar isn't on his level as a legend. He might never get near it either unless he gets out of France.
I'm sorry, but Neymar is a better footballer than Beckham could ever dream of. The fact that Beck's got a really marketable face doesn't change that. If Beckham is a legend, Neymar is definitely among them, too. Also, what has Beckham done that Neymar hasn't? Both have won one CL and have a similar national trophy count. Neymar is far better in terms of individual accomplishments, though. He scored twice as many goals as Beckham although he played 300 games less and even in Beckham's prime discipline - assists - Neymar blows him out of the water. Not to mention that Neymar's international career completely outshines Beckham's. Honestly, no offense towards Beckham but Neymar is in a completely different bracket as a player. Yes, he's kind of wasting his talent a bit at PSG but he's still one of the best footballers of his generation and if he had utilized his potential, he'd be in the GOAT discussion, that's how talented he is.

Always amazing how sympathy can cloud a person's judgement.

Neymar will be a legend, or is, but he'll never be seen in the same light as Beckham. And that's because nobody likes him. Partly due to his on field antics, and also due to him getting it on with his mom and sister. Proper weirdo.

If aliens invaded the earth tomorrow and enslaved us all and our only hope of survival was for someone to kick a small nuclear device at their mothership through a hole the size of a womprat... I wouldn't pick Neymar over Becks.

Zico has 68, it would seem.

Anyway, the percentage of Neymar's international goals that stem from friendlies is quite unusual - and doesn't do him any favours when comparing him to those other legends you mention.

Romario's friendly percentage is south of thirty - Neymar's is close to seventy. The latter has over 100 caps for Brazil at that - whereas Romario stands with 70 (55 goals).

I think the issue here is people like yourself can't separate who the better player is to the legend part. They aren't exclusively related.

Neymar is the more talented footballer. He’s also a bit of a twat.
Beckham is the epitome of hard work, plus he’s a likeable and well-respected guy.
Is there really any more to it than that?

Wait, what? A forward has scored and assisted many more in his career than a midfielder.

No fecking way, I'm not buying it.
So Beckham - playing on the right wing - is a midfielder and Neymar - playing on the left wing - is a forward? How can that be the case? Have I missed that the goal on football pitches is placed more towards the lefthand side of the pitch all those years? Damn.

I think the issue here is people like yourself can't separate who the better player is to the legend part. They aren't exclusively related.
You know, being good at football usually is what makes you a football legend. Of course, a lesser player can have a greater legacy than a better one if he's achieved more with his teams but since Neymar's trophy haul is already as impressive as Beckham's although he spent most of his career in France and Brazil that's hardly an argument in this particular case.

So yeah, Neymar's legacy > Beckham's. At least in every country not named England.

Neymar is undoubtedly the better footballer between the two. He's more influential and generally reached a higher level. He's capable of destroying teams almost single handedly due to his vastly superior ability on the ball.

Beckham was the more iconic footballer due to being extremely photogenic, and where he has the upper hand over Neymar is in terms of mentality, team ethic etc. He's more likely to be a strong cog in an exceptional team IMO (doesn't mean Neymar can't given he was under Enrique) due to his work rate and focus.

I think Neymar is definitely the better player. However, how is Neymar's trophy haul more impressive? He's only won something like two league titles in a top league hasn't he?

This is probably for the "weird feelings in football" thread rather than here, but I always had the feeling Beckham worked harder to improve and challenge himself as a footballer and an individual whereas Neymar seems to have taken to resting on his laurels.

Also, unrelated, Neymar has easily the most punchable face in football. I mean, Suarez and Wilshere don't get a look in...
