The Leicester players have symptoms but weren't proven to be exposed to the coronavirus and were told by health officials they just have a cold or flu and to self isolate as a precaution.

The Arsenal players definitely were exposed to someone infected.
The club have stated the players won’t even be tested. Wtf?! Am I in a parallel universe here where no sensible decisions are ever made?!

We're going to be the last nation to act, aren't we?

I blame Brexit.
It’s very odd. Ireland are probably the closest to our situation for comparison and they’re acting aggressively. I think we’re trying something different in the hope it works for us and the government earns huge praise for it in hindsight.

They were told by the NHS coronavirus staff that no tests were required so they're symptoms obviously weren't actually consistent with coronavirus.

There isn't much more the club can do really.

That would be such a British thing to do.

They arent testing unless youve been to one of the affected countries or came in touch with someone who is infected.

Considering our performances in the past few games this is somehow even more annoying.

Really doubt it will get suspended. At worst the remaining games will be played behind closed doors.

Ohhh they operating under those rules?

Ok that'll change soon once there's community infections.
Apparently thats what 111 is advising. They must be overwhelmed and unless you can say youve been to an effected area or came into contacted directly with an infected person they arent testing atm.

As much as I wouldn't want Liverpool to win the League - the constant whining over the next 30 years about how they were cheated by the Corona Virus would be more unbearable to listen to!

I don't know about that. Look at HK, SG, Korea... it went up, but they stabilized it. Now it's under control in term of velocity. European countries are not handling it properly right now.
What I am trying to say is that maybe China has it under control for real as opposed to just faking numbers.
I am not saying China hasn't stabilized it, but that a lot of what it says were not believable & the death toll was likely to be much worse.

The bit about the other far east countries getting it under control is interesting, & has been puzzling myself for awhile. When this virus started the countries most affected not including China, were Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan & South Korea. Ignore the latter two who for various reasons got out of control, but the others have somehow gotten it under control, which makes little sense, as most of them are the sort of places where an virus like this would thrive. Now, there were suggestions that the Coronavirus was like Flu & other viruses that are seasonal. How true that is I don't know, but it just seems strange how the viruses just stopped in those countries, & has never really settled in countries south of the equator, except when they have travelled in. I hope this is true & the damn thing is seasonal & slowly goes away around the world. Just have to wait & see.

Why wouldn't they just count all the remaining games as 1-1 draws?

There's something really really strange about the whole thing. A friend of mine who's usually the most paranoid person on the earth is convinced the exact scale of the thing is being manipulated by some powers that be (she is however taking all the precautions).

While I'm not convinced it's that's drastic would it surprise me if all the news surrounding it low key petered off almost without us realising like swine flu did? Honestly, no!

I presume a fair amount of the foreign players in this country would like to go back to their home countries during this period of uncertainty if the PL is cancelled.

Eh it would be brilliant. Even if they're given it we can just say they didn't even finish the season. Even if we do finish the season, we can just everyone was ill anyway.

People seem to think suspended is the same as written off. If the PL gets stopped which I suspect it will then they will just pick up where they left off when it’s safe to do so.

The governing bodies of sports in Ireland have started suspended games and training at all levels until March 29th following on from the Taoiseach's announcement.

Basketball, Gaelic games, Soccer and Rugby all gone.

And when will that be?

Honestly this would probably never be allowed to happen and I doubt it's even being considered, but if this carries all the way into July/August, I would be all for some sort of playoffs system to determine places still up for grabs.

Chelsea/United/Wolves/Sheff Utd in a four-team playoff for 4th would be entertaining as hell.

Depends how long suspended for I would think. No one knows, my thinking is starting a new season fairly certain if it's months rather than weeks. But we'll see.

Most major competitions have been cancelled -- would be utter madness to continue with EL,CL and PL.

Maybe.

But 1939-40 was abandoned, so maybe not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1939–40_in_English_football

The difficulty could be in contracts. If player X is contracted till June, but the league is ready to restart in July, what happens? Transfer windows are defined such that every team has to play the season with a squad that has a brief period of change in January.

If the suspension last for a few months, it's by no means certain we'll pick up again.

I do think there will be a postponement on games or even all games just called off indefinitely, the rugby pro 14 has been just that. And how can the Italian clubs fullfill there fixtures. It's a right mess, only answer is to just null and void all comps . That's bad news if prem doesn't finish !?
