Yeah I got the flu for the first time in my life 2 years ago as well and it floored me. Literally. Spent the week sleeping on the toilet floor
I had the flu in February as well as my wife and 20 year old son . Worst flu I have ever had , coughing for 3 weeks , insane temperature, my wife was hospitalised for 6 days as she couldn`t breathe . I have still got a snotty nose now .

Turned mobile notifications off for news apps. It's not healthy for the mind constantly being told every time someone dies.
Since nobody here is qualified to judge whether the govt's strategy is correct or not, it's best to trust that they broadly know what they are doing.
Now's not the time for frantic finger pointing.
It does seem odd however, that stuff you would expect to flow naturally from this plan, eg setting up the NHS, training staff, clearing beds, activating retired medical staff - doesn't seem to be happening
The night I had an all-night fever dream was the worst. Every time I closed my eyes I immediately went right back into the dream and couldn't make a conscious effort to get out of it. It was just a dream about something simple like putting a box on a shelf, but the shelf kept moving. I'd wake up, talk myself out of it, close my eyes and it was there again.

I guess what a lot of the 'it's just a glorified flu bro' crowd are missing is that Covid-19 results in more hospitalizations, therefore putting more pressure on healthcare providers. It's both a mortality & logistics issue, not just mortality.
The Tory strategy is massively risky. It has to be a Cummings invention. If the popular strategy fails governents can blame the WHO or the 'consensus'. If the Tory strategy fails then its all on them. Governments may be following the consensus against their own information for that reason though.
At least they are clear that any rise in cases is absolutely inevitable and desired to get on top of the issue. You can't be judging success at this stage through expecting a plateau in the number of cases.

But I think it's unfair to pin the plan on Cummings. I'd say Vallance and his team of adviser presented multiple plans of action, Cummings probably did steer the government to the most radical option though.
Most people only get flu at least twice in their entire lives.

Wow. Had the flu once I think but it must have affected you way worse than me. i'd say Norovirus was the worst illness I can remember. The duration was much shorter than flu but i was actually vomiting water for a few days. If i drank any liquid at all it would immediately be thrown right back up. Had to rinse my mouth and spit it out to try and help the dehydration whilst not being sick. My understanding of Covid-19 is that the symptoms are high temperature, muscle aches, fatigue and sore throat (though not a runny nose). Yeah, in theory, but it's been borderline impossible to get a test here from what I understand even if you have symptoms because its hard to prove exposure to it.
There was an email today that a student is self-isolating in halls on 111s advice, so I think that's about to change.
So anyone got any Twitter chitter about China doing unethical stuff in finding any vaccine in speedy time, by bypassing usual safety standards? Surely they must be at the forefront. Someone mentioned using the blood of recovered patients for anti bodies. I know it's bad to think it but we need a "bad" mofo in the family right now.

No, but I don’t tend to go to the doctors. Except this past fortnight where I’ve been in twice and spent 10 hours in hospital (not with Covid-19). I suspect it to be flu as it’s quite easy to tell the difference from that and a heavy cold, but who knows.There's a place for you in heaven.
In my experience. If you can walk, it's not the flu.
Flu will floor you for a week. Bed ridden. You'll know the difference.
I should look at it. As above, I don’t tend to go near the doctors, save for this labyrinth syndrome, which has had me completely fecked for about 3 weeks now
To be fair, they're not healthy generally (except travel if you're a commuter).

Where do you live? Here in Canada I can get a flu shot from my pharmacist. I haven't had the flu since 2005. Definitely worth it.

This is my worry. Flu is awful, you can barely function. Is Covid-19 like that? These details tend to be missing as they've focused on numbers and worst case scenarios rather than explaining what most people will feel like...
Not initially. Fever, followed by a dry cough, and finally viral pneumonia which will flood your lungs with liquid so will seem like you're drowning for a breathe.
