I was reading an article updated 20 minutes ago in the Midi Libre, they apparently registered 1500 new cases since last night. I now the stats on worldometer but I'm wondering about what is reported right now.
El Pais is showing a couple of hundred more cases than the tracking sites on the overall total as of midday today, but I can't find the specific number for today's increase; Madrid is showing 700 or so MORE than another page on their site is reporting, so you might be right.

Feck my life. And everyone else's apparently.

Spain is out of control. Lots of people don't take it seriously and are going to the mountain and the beach. they will start taking it seriously when it will be too late. Spain is going to the herd immunity way without the governments advise (that had been slow too in react)
Catalonia are doing better though, right? Yesterday they introduced some partial lockdown, and the schools got closed yesterday (it was supposed to happen in Monday).

Also, is it true that a lot of people from Madrid (which is the red zone in Spain) for whatever reasons drove to Valencia yesterday?

The bold bit made me chuckle.
I can understand that.

You look at places like China or Japan where people with colds have routinely worn face masks for years to prevent others from catching the disease from them.

Then you look at the UK where face masks are being worn primarily as a form of protection from others, and people are going batshit over hoarding toilet rolls in the most selfish ways possible.

It's one of the unique things that provides a different challenge to the policy makers on these shores, and why it's not possible to take the same draconian measures that we see in Singapore, for example.

Getting us to worry about community spread is going to be tricky.

Just watched a video on Instagram from a french bodybuilder living in Italy right now. What he describes is akin to apocalypse scenario. The authorites aren't joking with people breaking curfews and what not. Everything is shut down
You’re not even allowed to walk your dog properly apparently, police roaming the streets to check.

My dog is dying of cancer. I guess I may have to make a decision if the UK goes the same way, not knowing if I can still get his painkillers etc.

Another question I had, surely the homeless are huge at risk groups and people likely to pass it on to others?
I think the animal charities will be in deep trouble too. People with dogs and cats will by dying, the people is, and everyone will want the charities to take them. But eventually they will be full up.

A lot of pets may end up starving in the cold.

Dunno Ian, I can only speak for my little corner of the Midlands. We’ve not been able to get any toilet paper for near on 5 days. This might not sound too bad to most folk but my Mrs suffers from Crohn’s disease so loo roll is a pretty hot commodity for her.
Regarding soap and hand gel, you can use swarfega, it is mainly used in industry and laboratories but you can buy this, it works very well. I know it is excessive but if you are actually having difficulty it may help to buy and use it until the regular soap bars come back into stock:

Still some toilet paper from staples uk as well:

In Italy, it is allowed to go to grocery and pharmacy. So I guess you should be able to get his painkillers.

One of my friends lives in Surrey and he says the same there. Tinned food, soap, hand gel, loo rolls, and all sorts of stuff that you don’t think people would hoard.

Really pisses me off though. No one doubts we’re in for a rough time but the ‘I’m alright Jack’ and ‘trample on all others’ mentality is something I’ve never understood.
Selfish people annoy me. I mean it actually feels better to share or give than to take. Natural drug.

I follow spanish media quite a lot these days as I live here now but I never seen this number today. It will likely be quite a lot more than that at the end of the day though.
It is actually reported but it seems that some major papers don't give figures which is why I asked a confirmation.

https://www.laregion.es/articulo/es...spana-1500-mas-ayer/20200314123914932739.html

Los positivos por coronavirus en España ya suman 5.753 casos, lo que supone un aumento en 1.522 personas contagiadas respecto a las 18 horas de este viernes, mientras que los fallecidos se elevan a 136, quince más.

So Trump has admitted to taking the test, despite his physician saying yesterday that he doesn't need to be put in isolation or have the test at all because he said it was low risk. At this point, it's a good chance that he has it, right? With the people he's met.
The R0 rate seems to be about 2-2.5 with this virus, so it isn’t the most contagious (think how scary that statement is given the state of the world). Lots of people will have plenty of contact with contagious people and not get it. I’ve no idea what the odds are, but I wouldn’t be surprised either way.

Catalonian government asked the spanish government for full lockdown. So far the government didn't give that order. Is doing better than Madrid area, but not much better. Understandably they are the 2 biggest cities and if it is doing better is for shear luck. Dumbfeckery is all over the place right now

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
Question - the Government stance is that individual schools will close when there are confirmed cases...

But, they're also now telling people not to bother reporting symptoms and they're not testing anyone unless they are in Critical condition. So that's a bit of a dead-end really isn't it?

So are teachers / education workers essentially just being tossed to the lions here, in a similar, though less severe way as Healthcare workers are?

And if so, can we keep ignoring that these two areas - Education and Healthcare - are among the hardest hit areas already by this current Government and by Conservative Governments historically?

You argued that self-isolating at home with a family wasn't something in the government guidelines.
Eh? I quoted government guidelines from the NHS website which talked about exactly that.

It wasn't even an argument. It was literally just a copy-and-paste.

One of the supermarkets close to myself (Aldi), has now started adding extra security and restrictions, trying to reduce the hoarding process. Mainly loo rolls and other such needs. Feel its a step most places should stand up to.

My ex-boss (from Barcelona but living in Munich) told me yesterday and today that they did some quarantine measures in Catalonia. She’s very pro-independence so was jokingly about independence by coronavirus.

I have no idea why Spain are being such idiots. It is like many countries in Europe seem okay to have the Italian scenario, instead of Korea/China scenario.

Can someone help me, did I just read that there is 1500 new cases in Spain?
Give it a couple of months and there will be millions of cases simultaneously. I find it hard to believe any countries in the real shit can possibly keep up with the testing needed to accurately capture the number of cases. It’s all about sampling now, but they may well not make those numbers public given the numeracy of the population.

Another eerie thing we’ve noticed today is ambulances. We live in a little village that has an A road running through linking Derby and Swadlincote ambulance services. They’ve been back and forth all day, full speed with sirens on.

Difficult not to let your mind fill in the gaps. We’ve been here about 10 years and never really noticed them to this extent.

Will we not deploy guardia civil? I'm getting irrationally pissed off with the same dozens of people i see every day walking their dogs, kissing and shit like everything is fine.

What else? Don't go to the toilet or eat either? People can do what they can but you if you have a family then you will still be isolating with them around.
I think you’d be surprised how successfully you can stop the spread of disease in close contact if you are really careful and preferred. This is where FPP3 masks are most valuable if infected and healthy people have to be in close proximity for a while.

The global countdown says 6252 and 193 deaths
The increase seem extremely high when you consider the relatively small amount of people previously infected, I'm not sure if they can contain it anytime soon. The lockdown only starts monday.

I doubt it was just to the Valencian comunidad it'll have been to the Spanish coast in general, but a lot of Madrilenos do have holiday apartments in the province.

Valencia province has closed all bars, restaurants, sports centres, public buildings etc. The schools are shut from Monday.

Will see. Spanish government just said that will strictly enforce the lockdown and travelling with be forbidden besides emergencies and work from tomorrow. But a whole weekend just happened with LOTS of stupid people visiting places outside madrid and barcelona as to say: " Well, is the last time before we can go for a while" and I sort of hope is their last time, feckwits.

Will see how they will enforce that. My guess is that it will be Guardia Civil controls, but will see how tight they will be

How much money would the treasury save by not having to pay state pensions to older victims of the virus?

Thats all the tories are worried about that and the money saved from killing off those with health conditions too .

This is what people voted for a Goverment that is more than willing to condemn over two million of its own citizens to death so long as they come out of it better off financially.

We will lose loved ones whether they are elderly or sick and no one seems to care because the economy is domehow more important

Its disgusting but we only have ourselves to blame

Thanks.

I wanted to say ‘that makes sense’ but it actually does not. It is like a game where the goal is to be more stupid than the other players in the game.
