We're actually exactly where Italy was, spookily similar. It's worth pointing out that Italy suddenly hit a horendous increase in deaths from this point onwards, so hopefully it won't be the same in the UK.

I don't have the corona virus as I have none of the symptoms but I am so ill, I didn't think it was possible literally not be able to consume a drop of water without throwing it back up. Been this way since of the middle of last night. Hopefully just a 24 hour bug.

Feel like this presumably makes me a bit more high risk, so heightening the lockdown. Fortunate that I'm in a position to work from home!

Don't worry, technically you can still run outside? Just have to keep your distance from other people? Maybe do it at night.
Not in Peru. There's a curfew from 8pm to 5am and the army and police patrol the streets. They arrested an 9ld fella feq nights ago for taking his bin bag across the road from his house.

Bear in mind this is a fairly new democracy. Circa 1992.
The military were in charge for many years prior to that.

Sorry for my complete ignorance:

At the writing class I went to last week, a lady sat next to me & halfway through the class, she mentioned that she'd just returned from India after four weeks. Should I be worried about my health? Or hers even?

102 new cases in Ireland

  • 55% are male and 44% are female
  • the median age of confirmed cases is 44 years
  • 30% of cases have been hospitalized
  • 13 cases admitted to ICU – representing 2% of all cases hospitalized
  • 147 cases – 25% of cases are associated with healthcare workers
  • Dublin has the highest number of cases at 55%, followed by Cork 15%
Some interesting info from Ireland, might explain the low deaths so far.

I've also read Germany for whatever reason , cases have skewed to the younger population. So along with top healthcare, ton of testing etc, they might have just a bit of lag while it reaches the older population.
I hadn't realised the significance of the median age before.

In Italy, the median age of the infected was 63 on the most recent figures I could find (March 18th).

That would explain the low death rate alright, and mean we really should at implement the proposed self isolation of the elderly, as hard as it would be on them.

India seems way, way behind Europe with infections. In terms of Corona, last week you'd be more more likely to get it in London than Mumbai.

We had the same curfew until today, but it was increased to 5pm to 5 am, starting tomorrow.

They also said that, if people keep disobeying it, the curfew will be between 5pm to 1pm, so you would have only four hours per day available to go out.

Personally, I'm just sorry they did not implement it sooner.

You may have caught the glastonitis, you will be flying to India before the end of the month.

Otherwise none of what you said tell us anything about your health or hers and therefore there is nothing interesting to say.

I couldn’t find out if there was going to be a COVID-19 presser today. Turns out there was and it was very much the C-team. Literally no idea who any of these three are and still none the wiser.
There was more of a focus on retailers today & food supply chains, there was a meeting this morning with all big supermarkets & government. I'm expecting the biggest news to happen on Monday in terms of non-essential retail to close, and then Tuesday or Wednesday with a full lockdown.

I'm too drunk to work it out but you've got daily and total deaths mixed up somewhere on that chart.

It's not a direct symptom but I've anacdotedley heard that a loss of apetite can happen. My friend who's had a bad fever and cough for 2 weeks completely lost his appetite (he's been eating fruit for the last couple of days). Also this lady says similar after coming into contact with someone who tested positive

Yes, if some people won't follow the rules, you have to make them follow the rules in situations like these.

Anyone know why the number of cases in Russia is so low in comparison to Europe? I understand this may be a very dumb question so apologies in advance.

A lot of business are helping out in terms of brewers now producing hand sanitizer and some manufacturers sharing their designs etc.

Is it really that simple to hand over and replicate? Amazing if so.

Seems to check out right, at least for UK and Italy, the other two at a glance look correct.

Percentage wise it has slowed down in Italy even though it doesn't feel like it.

The UK govt have been reactive to the whole situation from the start. They need to be proactive now & enforce a lockdown before it spirals completely out of control. Simply asking people to avoid interaction isn’t going to work.

Lombardia now banning outside exercise completely and closing down vending machines, according to the BBC. I expect that’ll be brought in across the country before too long.

I was really hoping for more positive news from here but I guess we'll have to wait a little longer.

Some things, like hand sanitizer will be easy for a distillery, and a craft gin distillery for example, would be able to shift to producing it more or less overnight.

The equipment like respirators and stuff - way more specialised and they have various failsafes, monitoring and feedback circuits. However, in an emergency, several firms could probably manufacture an older, less automated design.

The reason for talking to firms like RR aerospace and F1 teams is that their short run design/prototype/production line setups are very flexible and their technical staff are very highly skilled. They may be able to produce parts very quickly as long as they have exact specifications and there's a place to test them and turn them into the finished product.

There will be some parts though that are normally relatively longtime (like circuit boards or sensors from China?) that may take a lot of cloning/cobbling together if China aren't able to provide them.

Seems like a responsible thing for a professional virologist to do. 10/10.
Whilst on the subject of responsibility.....I know for a fact that two doctors were given the okay to return to work despite displaying some of the symptoms. Turned out they had the fecking thing!

Italy is introducing stricter measures from tomorrow.

I've said already social distancing is a waste of time. Italy started with that a month ago, it didnt work. We have been in almost complete lockdown for 2 weeks and it's made no difference. Total enforced quarantine seems to be the only way to stop it. A lot of countries are going to learn this the hard way.
