At this point, its a health hazard.

Millions are still going to work because the alternative is £94 a week sick pay, and they will starve.

Just pay them all the average national wage, £500 a week. Some people will get it who don't need it, but the alternative is people not having any way of stopping work and continuing to spread the virus.

Give them all the money and they can sit at home like we all want them to.
There is no fair way of doing it, but the average wage isn’t needed. People should be given enough money to pay rent/mortgage and buy food.

I have a feeling angry self employed people think that everyone else is on 80% pay, which is just not the case by the sounds of it. A lot those in retail and hospitality aren’t going to be paid at all and (without wanting to generalise) probably have less money in the bank than self employed workers.

Makes far more sense to work on mortgage/rent breaks for the self employed. Then the £95 a week is much more realistic.

Yet Brussels Airport still has planes arriving from Madrid, full of people who don't even get tested or screened. Maddening.
Govts should be held responsible and accountable for continuing as if nothing has happened in the world.

Properly impressed with my local Tesco Express staff.

There was a sensible distancing que.
Customers could only enter once a another customer would come out.
Hand sanitiser and paper roll was placed for people to enter with clean hands.Plus all shopping carriers, trolleys were also thoroughly cleaned by staff members.

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Giuseppe Berardelli, the main priest in the town of Casnigo, died last week in Lovere hospital. According to the hospital, he refused to use a respirator his parishioners had bought for him - choosing to give it to a younger patient, instead.

Residents of Casnigo were reported to have applauded from their windows and balconies as the coffin was taken for burial. There was no funeral.

On Tuesday, Pope Francis led a prayer for the deceased doctors and priests, "thanking God for their heroic example in serving those who were sick".

God bless this priest, may his soul rest in peace.

I really hope that these and all the others working in supermarkets, for the NHS, police etc all continue to get the recognition they fully deserve.

Indeed.
Also, the customers weren't hoarding either.
Oddly proud.

So this is my facebook this morning:

This was her facebook 4 days ago

And this was her boyfriend the day before that

Times like this I want to point out what she did 4 days ago, but it's just not worth the hassle
Do it. I'm sorry but people need to wake up on this front. Maybe write it in a way that's tactful and sensitive.....though that might be difficult

From Runners World:

If you are a regular runner it's good to keep up the exercise. If you ran once every two months before the virus, it's definitely not healthy to go for a (long) run every day now.
Oh i'm a fairly high mileage runner bud, which is what tickled me with the other post.
It's a strange fine line between having better resistance than most a lot of the time, but go over that line and you get run down easily.

I am pleading with my parents to cease renovating their house for the time being. Just for a month and they cannot do that. They are so afraid of offending the people who are doing the renovating. Pathetic really.

Good chance they wont have a house to live in because they will be dead.

I always find posts like this strange even outside the context of a pandemic :

well me and (name) went out tonight for two hours, just us two, nobody else, no close contact with anyone other than family to drop our boys off. thankyou to my amazing helpful family who were there to offer support for work and us being able to actually enjoy time together before we all go into isolation. having children isn’t easy at times but something like this really makes you appreciate what you have and how lucky you are! i understand people are angry at what’s happening and the fear of the unknown but there’s really no need to get mad about people going out and enjoying themselves before who knows how long we’ll have to isolate for. everyone’s entitled to their own opinion like the choices we make are our own, no need to judge

It sounds like she'd actually rather not have the children, as they seem to be causing their love-life a massive inconvenience.

Why?

If we can afford to give everyone a fair wage to stay at home for a few months, what possible reason do you have not to?

Worldmeters info has 385 deaths for Spain and Spain officially say 514 dead in last 24 hours, a new record so there hasn't been a drop. Wiki use worldmeters info. The totals are the same but looking at graphs and percentages on wiki can be misleading day to day for some countries.

I'm guessing I might not want to read that as a 60mile a week runner :)
Although in fairness, it's not "too much" for me as I've spent years doing it.
My original point (perhaps hastily worded) is just that marathon runners aren't necessarily paragons of health that they appear to be paraded as, and prolonged, strenuous exercise of the sort can make people potentially more prone to contracting an illness like this instead of acting as a preventative measure.

Since everyone is locked inside, looks like nobody's clocking the miles for this to be relevant anyway, so I'll leave it at that.

If Wetherspoons ceases to exist after this is all said and done, some good will have come of it. Tim Martin is an abhorrent individual.

Add Mike Ashley's empire to that. Would be pleasing to see.

I'm hardly an expert on this but here's how I see it. Even with a perfect (i.e. zero new infections) lockdown/quarantine you're basically just delaying the inevitable and the virus will spread again once these restrictions are lifted leaving you with the same problem as before. Unless you're holding out for a vaccine but I think we all agree that locking everyone down for 12 to 18 months is not an option. Doing nothing is clearly the worst option (see Italy) so there has to be another way. I guess in an ideal world, you would completely isolate the high-risk groups while letting life continue normally for everyone else. But obviously, this is almost impossible to do as it assumes everyone behaves perfectly. Just thought it was interesting that is all coming from virologists (so not politicians or economists). There have been quite a few of them writing op-eds and giving interviews in German media.

Why (to me at least) having these drastic measures in place now still makes sense is that it buys us time. Time to develop a long-term strategy, make sure all supply-chains are working, hospitals have everything they need etc.
We could be hunkering down for a decent therapeutic that will make the symptoms less severe though.

No. I can only leave using my British passport as that's what I used to enter with.
Fair enough mate. Just thought in an off-chance you might have found that helpful. Did you decide to come home or?

Fecking selfish bitch. They should track her down and lock her up. On a corona ward.
Colombo would be shaking his head at you guys. As am I:

Means: highly deadly infection
Opportunity: pandemic, cause of death reported by coroner - natural
All important Motive: Husband and 77 year old friend shagging behind her back for years/decades
