What a stupid fecking post. Just wish him the best and then take him to task when he recovers.
Lots of people won't get the chance to recover because of his and his government's actions, which were obviously out of step with everyone else in the world at the time (except Donald Trump).

I don't wish him ill, but when his policy decisions are impacting the lives of millions in the UK, it's perfectly reasonable to point that out.

I'm sorry, I won't be happy if he dies, but I'm not gonna sit here send him my best wishes.

The man was happy to let thousands die to achieve herd immunity so it's quite ironic if he's one of them.

I hope it doesn't die simply it's the last thing the country needs right now, but I'm not going to suddenly forget him twiddling his fingers and allowing us to get in this situation.
How the feck do you expect lockdown to end in the West without a vaccine unless herd immunity kicks in. No I should have added into the options doing what Asia seems to have done and introduces a level of surveillance and adherence that all western populations would be up in arms about.

Awful. Hopefully this really is just precautionary and doesn't need to be a prolonged stay.

Because you spouted a load of crap.

You said:

--

The first sentence (yes I picked the second clause) makes you a wanker, the second shows your ignorance of the situation. Crack on.
I don't understand why anyone should feel obligated to give him their best wishes. I don't want him to die or anything. However my best wishes and concern are reserved for everyone else who's fighting for their lives right now, but wasn't in a privileged enough position to do anything about this whole thing.

Sorry mate but what?

Are you planning on sitting this out locked down until a vaccine?
I'm working 60 hours per week in a public health, vigilance and medical support unit that coordinates Covid-19 in an Autonomous region of 240.000 people. I do not think I have an history of being arrogant in redcafe and I have been here for more than 10 years.

I am becoming arrogant now and feel entitled to it. Your questions are no longer worthy enough to be answered. They are mere repetition. I answered that exact question you just asked me last week or so.

I can’t believe there isn’t more anger at the actual UK experts and the original model.

Should the UK just sack off all of it’s expert advisors and teams and just rely on what everyone else is doing? I guess that’s what everyone wants.

I wasn't referring to this pandemic.

To answer the question though I'm already on record as saying they should've brought in strict lockdown measures sooner than they did, so that, for starters. I wouldn't have even entertained the idea of herd immunity and sacrificing so many vulnerable older people. And on a personal level I wouldn't have been giving it the big un about how many hands I've continued to shake in defiance of common sense.
His bluster is part of his charm unfortunately. A hard to dislike guy even when he's totally against what you personally believe.

The big problem is that this is a once in a lifetime world emergency. There is no handbook for how to handle things. Which is why so many countries have struggled and seen numbers balloon into the sunset. And plenty of world leaders have started from a position of totally denying and playing the whole thing down.

If the Czech figures are correct, they apparently have had only about 60 deaths in total. But have been in actual total lockdown for a month - no exercise etc.

Will the figures go up when lockdown is removed? Or have they handled it perfectly? Time will only judge in the future

Look, if you don't have anything nice to say about Boris as he lays in intensive care with his pregnant wife in bits then maybe don't say anything at all, yeah?
You’d think that’d be common sense really, but no.

Fair enough, but he wasn't 'happy for people to die'.

Boris has tried to keep going when he was clearly a sick man who needed to rest. You have to admire him for that, he's done his best to step up to the plate at a time of national crisis.

It’s not at all, gotta get this shit slowly moving through society. We can’t lock-in until a vaccine and Denmark are in a good place.
We haven't seen the worse of it yet so I can't the lockdown being lifted anytime soon.

Assuming the numbers fall throughout April I think we may start opening up things in phases but we need to see a proper dip in cases.

The science changed within 5 days...

In reality they realised what they were doing in the first place was bullshit and went back on it. They talked about introducing social distancing in the future if it was required but wasn't something they were currently looking at. 5 days later, social distancing came in. They completely botched and any denial of that is also bullshit.

On the other hand he's basically the person in the country with the highest priority. He'll probably get taken into ICU and cared for way better/more individually than regular people who made up the 50% death rate.
True. Fair to say that it’s hard to estimate his chance of survival but he’s in a spot.

I feel like if it was at all possible they'd put out an "I'm alright video given the circumstances" video. Just writing it in tweets isn't particularly reassuring.
He‘s in intensive care. Shits baaad.

What a dreamboat

What sort of outfit is that though.
Oxford and Cambridge have an amateur boxing tradition and he boxed for Oxford.

I'm genuinely stunned at some of the stuff people are posting.
It's all very easy to be Captain hindsight about things isn't it.
Much different to be the guy in charge in such a difficult job.

But either way, simple human compassion should make your first reaction, "damn, this is not good at all", rather than a snide "well, he did xxx and didn't do yyy"

It is though in Denmark (although they aren’t locked down, they can still freely go out).

From 1st May they will slowly start opening up again which is surely the correct thing to do as this virus needs to move through society.

Although I’m not sure @Arruda won’t be here slating me again for this so maybe I’m chatting shit again and Denmark are wrong for planning to do what I’ve said countries will need to for a couple of weeks now.

The harsh reality is that any relatively wealthy country that doesn't achieve public health outcomes as good as those that South Korea achieved, has had someone criminally negligent making (or not making) decisions. I do not even think the blame lies in politicians, but in a particular group of doctors, Public Health specialists. Judging from the sample in Portugal, they are way behind the pace their counterparts in other specialties.

This is huge. It feels like the princess Diana news in its magnitude. I hope he pulls through, but he's obviously been working hard while being unwell, which isn't good. I fear the worst.

Whatever your political affiliations, knowing another human is in such a precarious state of health can't possibly be entertaining or funny can it?

Totally agree. Politics shouldn't matter now, but unfortunately the Tories have underfunded education for so long, that's this is what we get. Or something.

There was plenty of experts they could have chose to listen to which would have given them good advice. They chose the experts with the advice they preferred. All the talk back then was “more lives will be lost through the economy“. That was always a bollocks argument and completely underestimated the threat of this virus.

Aye, the model was wrong they said.

Still not sure how the twerp Boris should know that if an expert team from a leading country like the UK is advising him?
As a leader of one of the most established countries in the world I'd have hoped he would taken a look around Europe and wondered if those experts were up to scratch.

What does Ian Duncan Smith mean by this?

Someone is telling me it's been used successfully in the US
Many drugs (including the one you mentioned, the malaria druh Trump mentions, and a few HIV drugs) have been used successfully. The problem is that right now it is extremely hard to know if it was the drug who ceased the infection, or it was the immunity system of that person. For this reason, there are (I believe) 52 trials of different drugs going on, after which it will become clear if the drugs are effective or not. Hopefully at least one of them shows to be effective (if it is the malaria drug even better, cause it is quite cheap and easy to mass-produce).
