I'd be happy to do it for John the out of work plumber, James the out of work shop assistant, and Jennie the out of work technician. I'd be happy to do it for Jill who has mobility issues or Jack who struggles with depression.

I'd be less than happy to do it for Pete the lazy Jakey bastard who only goes to the Job Center because his dealer lives around the corner, and spends his days sitting on his fat arse eating convenience store hot dogs and drinking White Lightning outside on the streets at 4am to wake up everyone on the street. feck Pete. Can we prevent him from getting the money, because in that case I'm on board with the plan.

He has a way of phrasing things so he seems both honest and reasonable, reminds me of Blair in that respect.
Sorry. Tony Blair honest? One of the biggest war crimes committed in our time by a British PM. The lying to the public on the false narrative of the WMDs.

Minimum wage would need to increase massively or youd see most on minimum wage just stop working imo
Its easy. If you you are an employee and don't find a worker for the minimum wage because of that reason, you will need to increase the compensation to make them move their ass to work

One of the ideas is to get rid of jobs that aren’t needed to be done by humans. Also you’d still get UBI if you worked so you’d be working for extra money, there’d be incentive. There’d just be no incentive to do terrible job for poor income for survival.

Which then ups the costs or production, which then ups the costs of the end price of product, which then makes consumer pay more for said product, so then basic income wont be sufficient anymore.

It's the same with upping minimum wage as it is now, it's just a big circle

And where does this basic income money come from?

What he did or didn't do and what his politics were or are is irrelevant you plonker. I was clearly talking about how he came across as a speaker.

Didn't you say honest and reasonable? How can you say he is honest when he took the country into an illegal war knowing that he lied to the Parliament you idiot?

Taxes. It’s tricky because you’d need to tax people a lot more than now, removing some incentive to work. Corporate tax would need to increase substantially and you’d need to find a way for corporate to pay it in the first place, as they’d probably see their profit growth in the mid term and definitely in the long term. You need stable and growing economy to implement it though and we won’t have that anytime soon, anywhere in the world.

Well done us.
How many still waiting on results though? I read today that Mary-Lou McDonald was tested on 27th March, and received her (positive) result yesterday.

Is partially true. The increase in salary dilutes so your earnings for an increase of Minimum wage is bigger than the increase on inflation. But of course, increase on a minimum wage and the universal income should be a redistribution policy that should come increasing taxes to the top 10%

The claim that increasing the minimum wage is harmful for the companies and the economy and that it has no effect long term is a lie being told for ages by the top 10%...as always

A lot of people getting far too worked up about delayed test results in Ireland, if you ask me. Someone like Mary Lou being a good example. The result didn’t influence her outcome or management at all. She had to self isolate and sit it out regardless. Quick results only important for the very unwell and for HCWs, who have been bumped to top of the queue for a reason. For the Mary Lous out there, the result is only useful for the bigger picture, so no big deal if they’re delayed for a week or two. ICU and admissions data are probably more useful than number of cases in the phase we’re in now anyway.

Once we get through this lockdown and if we can get back to a containment strategy we’ll need prompt test results for everyone, to do rapid contact tracing and quarantining. We’re a way off that right now. I’m just pleased that we’re already able to test so many people every day. Sets us up well for the next phase.

I’d have thought it would be important in terms of notifying anybody she’s been in close contact with to self-isolate too? Or does that happen with anyone who gets tested?

You're not the brightest. Read it again:
'He has a way of phrasing things so he seems both honest and reasonable, reminds me of Blair in that respect.'
I didn't say he was honest and reasonable did I. Do you get the difference? No, probably not.

All this talk about how people my age having it good/bad and I'm sitting here with two degrees but still renting, good local government private pension but shite British pension, Hagen daas ice cream in the freezer but no butter in the fridge. Meanwhile my parents have their own homes paid off and strong pensions but ill health and bugger all to do to pass the time.

And while all this is going on some billionaires are rubbing their hands together and whispering "good...good....hate each other...." as they steal anything that isn't nailed down. Like all the fecking Freddos

Let's just all agree that everyone will be affected by this for the worse except a small few and unless we all come together and put our differences aside there will be no more Freddos left for me us.
Cool, what are your degrees in?

That’s what we need to do in a containment phase. Identify every case and trace all their contacts. But we’re not even trying to test every case right now. Just a subset of them that fulfil certain criteria. Been that way for a couple of weeks now. We’ve had to prioritise testing for some groups over others (albeit still a much more extensive testing program than our neighbours across the pond)

Seeing as we’ve ramped up testing as much as we have done, combined with doing a great job at flattening the curve, the whole contact tracing thing might become more central to our strategy again. We’re not there yet though.

Maybe im wrong but we have such a huge city in comparison to our size that its easier to pad stats like these with a solid focus on Dublin?
Id imagine England would have similar stats if it were just London and the sticks.
Again, im probably wrong.

As far as the UK goes we're not even testing the terminally ill in care homes, much less the staff going in and out of them, despite Rishi's comments about testing today.

Are there any examples of this working successfully so far?
The opposite. There have been a handful of trials but theyve all failed.

It wont work because it will gut the lower end employment and push the prices of everything up. It's something that might work in the future when basic jobs can be automated.

Speaking of Rishi, here’s another Tory who’s coming out of this all quite well.

This was filmed 11 days before lockdown started in the UK.

The UK should have moved earlier, I think everyone's agreed on that now, so yes, he was right. Stewart's a loss to politics, he has some strange ideas as well as good ones but I think any cabinet would benefit from his presence.

Brazil accelerating too. 4K new cases and 300 deaths today. And I think they don't have any lockdown measures
