State of play video is out. Looks awesome, can’t wait to play this. There’s very little of Joel though which would be shame because the Joel/Ellie dynamic and chemistry was a big success in the first game.
Is watching this gonna spoil anything, story-wise?

It looks incredible but I've decided I won't buy it and enjoy 20+ hours of great gameplay because there's this bit of the story that's a bit too woke for me innit.

I think part of that has to do with some former employees speaking out about the crunch culture at Naughty Dog. Same as with CD Projekt Red and Rockstar before them. At least that part of the criticism is warrented, it's clearly still a huge problem within the gaming industry and those are some very high profile examples of it. As someone working in software and who is fairly religious in protecting my own work-life balance, I sincerely hope these studios work hard to eliminate it. It's a tough one, I love what they do and I can't stop myself from consuming their products, but I also don't want to support crunch culture. So I guess people giving them plenty of grief about it on social media is completely fair for me. Maybe it'll push them to look at the issue in earnest.

The other part of it, well I'm not interested. I'll judge the game after I've played it.
Yeah it's definitely the other part that's made them an enemy in the eyes of (some of) the public. I also want to wait and watch before judging the game. Problem is, I don't know if I can trust reviewers either given all the noise. Maybe the few ones I do follow.

I wouldn't trust any reviewer on a game as loaded as this one, especially not from sites like IGN, Kotaku, Polygon or any other garbage like that. I think ACG on Youtube might be the only one whose opinion I really value, even when I completely disagree with him. And although they're formally a tech analysis channel, I find DigitalFoundry's sort-of reviews very insightful.

Apparently it’s banned in a couple of countries in the Middle East. They can get around it but I found that odd; does it happen often?

The game looks incredible. I've just sort of skipped through a lot of these videos they've released recently because I don't want to know too much of what's going on in the game; I've just been focusing on the gameplay. Can't wait to play it.

As for the shit that Naughty Dog is getting recently (which is predominately manufactured on social media), more than half of it is people jumping on the bandwagon/trolling. I can tell you for a fact, the vast majority of them don't give a flying feck about the supposed poor work practices at these companies. They're just doing it for the "fun" of it. They'll move on to the next thing to be outraged by soon.

Games getting banned? Yeah, loads of countries do it. Mostly due to violence and nudity, but also for political reasons. I think Australia is pretty strict when it comes to banning games. As you said, people get around it though.

As for The Last of Us being banned, I assume it's to do with the LGBT themes running through it.

It's all about the AGENDAS! Innit.

Though the usual suspects who talk about them, true to form as usual, can't tell us exactly what agendas they refer too.
As always Reddit holds the answer.

The comment section just reminds me that there's a few cnuts on this planet.

Would that not be partly due to age? No ideahow long between games.
No you soft **** moth protector. It's because SJW enforcers can't stand seeing a dominant male in their games. It's their worst nightmare.

That's what the comments say, anyway.

Really? I live in Aus and have never heard of games being banned here. I thought Aus was pretty relaxed on those sorts of things.

Nah man, The Witcher 2, Saints Row 4, Silent Hill Homecoming and a fair few others got banned in Australia and had to get content removed before they were allowed to go on sale. I think a lot of publishers now alter content for the Australian version of the game before release now to avoid the headache.

Don't want to spoil anything by watching videos. When it's out?

I did some research and there was the website called Google that told me it comes out on the 19th of June.
Dear Mr Pigeon,

I was worried I might somehow see spoilers if I googled. Thank you for the information.

Regards,
Solius.

I'm not going to click that as I don't trust reddit to not spoil stuff, but still...:lol::lol::lol:

I wonder how much overlap there is between those on the Last of Us 2 hate bandwagon and gamergate sympathizers.

Bloody hell. I wish you hadn’t told me that, now I’m going to assume every game I’ve played here has been watered down

Bet you haven't even played the level in Tetris where you feck the blocks like they're dildos.

The people moaning that games are getting too 'political' (side-note: LGBTQ rights should never be seen as political but anyway) are probably the same people who love FFVII. You know, that game where you rise up and fight against a government corporation.

Yeah, Australia is quite strict when it comes to this. Even when games don't get banned, they're heavily censored before release.

The people moaning put more force in to their agenda rants than the thing they're claiming was "forced" in the first place.

Developer: adds character that isn't a white guy, probably goes for coffee afterwards
Moaners: go on a fifty page rant about how it's destroying civilisation and it's clearly just an attempt by the Devs to be "woke"

Oi don't have a go at ff7.

Watched a few bits of the state of the game last night and have to say this looks great, which is no surprise. Still managing to avoid spoilers so far too.

Yeah, but, you know - it's hasn't got gays in it, has it?

It's a load of bollox. The majority of the games people play are political. Call of Duty (one of the biggest-selling games) is inherently political. Same with the Division and countless others. To be fair, some of these publishers don't help. When Ubisoft came out when The Division was released and basically said, "don't worry, our games aren't political. Honest!" It just fuels this "keep politics out if my games" narrative that is prevalent on social media. Ignoring the fact that some of the best games of all time (Bioshock being one of them) are hugely political.

Obviously, we know what they mean when they say keep politics out of games. It's a certain brand of politics they take umbrage with.

It's the same thing when people claim free speech for things they like but then are completely silent when Emily Maitlis is removed from Newsnight.

Yeah, GTA:Online for example, when the Casino update was out, the content wasn't available in countries where gambling is illegal.

Anyway as for this game, I don't like how the story is seemingly going to be but the game looks good and will most likely buy it on release.

The entirety of the anger at Naughty Dog over the spoilers has nothing to do with LGBT issues.

The contempt for them seems pretty damn justified. Can't really say anything else without spoiling.

is it because they made Joel's shoulders small?

No. Although it's a fair enough thing to notice and comment on. Reflects the antipathy the script writers obviously have for the Joel 'archetype' and is clearly intentional.
