Ole caught a fair bit of stick for willingly selling him and trusting that his young guns would cover his goals and boy has it paid off...

Ridiculous!! Goals aside his overall play in games has come on leaps and bounds since lockdown. It’s amazing to see.
You really do just expect him to score when the balls at his feet in the box. Now all I want to see before declaring him the next messiah is more variety in his finishing. Maybe something akin to the Martial chip vs Sheffield but what a player it looks like we have.

Tbf Mourinho brought him on tour and gave him minutes in 2018 when Greenwood was 16. Some talents are just so obvious.
And said this isn't my team or whatever. there is zero credit to him and he wouldn't have got a look in except some 5 minutes at the end in the league cup game.

This kid is going to be special. If he stays healthy and continues his development in the way that he is, he could one day be our all time leading scorer. His potential is that good...

Two footed striker. Unbelievable talent and yet to fulfil his potential. Exciting times ahead.

I love how so many of his finishes are proper smashes, hitting the top corner or roof of the net. Always looks so slick

Agree. Just need to take it 1 step at a time, important to see how he responds to down periods and set backs because they will happen, but hes such a natural.

At what point does Ole begin to consider Mason over Martial at 9 if we get Sancho? Seemed to be a given Mason would come off the bench but he has been phenomenal. Just a natural goal scorer!
The question is at what price does he say "keep Sancho Ill play Greenwood"

That's because our first team players were on extended holiday after world cup. He had to bring in youth to fill thr squad. Then he said this isnt my squad and also said he wouldn't buy ticket to watch this team.

Would have loved for him to get the hat-trick, but also feel like it's excellent man-management by Ole to take him off when he did. He had his chance, no need to keep him on just for the service of being "allowed" a hat-trick, that can come later in his career.

For now he's saved to keep him fit and ready for the final run in of the season, we will need him. But also I can imagine this annoys him a bit, you could see it on his face as he was coming off. He really wanted to stay on. He really wanted that hat-trick. And I think this will light a fire in him to be that much more ready to deliver in future games, to be switched on and ready to score in the games to come!

One has over 800 starts in his career, the other has 20.
Agreed. Rooney even admitted he was not a natural goal scorer. Greenwood is the definition of one.

What can't be argued with is what Rooney achieved in his career for 12+ seasons. Will be interesting to see how Greenwood develops both physically and mentally because as always its game by game, training session by training session. How do you respond to a bad run of form? How do you bounce back from injury? Do you keep working to develop the weak parts of your game? How do you deal with fame/money/agents/pressure?

Huge huge talent. Amazing start. But zero guaranteed and the best work at it everyday for years. And the guys who blow it are the ones who get distracted and drop their focus. Rooney to his credit lived up to his potential.

Even if Greenwood is in the starting 11 next year on the left wing, we still need another left footed attacker. Competition is good though. Perhaps Greenwood will be able to rotate anywhere in the front 3 to give everyone some rest...

Incredibly deadly off either foot, I can’t remember seeing a player so comfortable off either foot like this.

Usually even elite strikers will be inclined to manoeuvre the ball onto their preferred foot. Doesn’t seem like Greenwood has one.

Can’t see this kid being held back long, he will want that number 9 spot

That don't happen :) We have good momentum at the moment and I think we always have to show ambition. If we bring Sancho in, the opposing defenders are going to have a problem. Masons so good, he doesn't even have to try to beat the defender for pace. All he needs is a yard. But If we've Rashford, or Martial or potentially Sancho by his side.....It's going to be interesting.

Funny enough, given time, I'm not sure if Greenwood is the player who would drop out for Greenwood. He is very good in tight spaces, and holds off players while dribbling out of bad situations. Even with his good performances, I'd be really scared if I were Martial. Even off form, Rashford still has a lot of support.

People have already said everything there is to say about his finishing, it's truly special.

But what about his movement for the first goal? That subtle drop of the shoulder completely fooled the defender into thinking he'd make a diagonal run and opened up so much space for his strong foot when Bruno found him. Veteran move, such an intelligent player.

Agree with all of this. I even said that Rooney's all-round game at 18 was way better than Greenwood's. But when it comes to finishing, it is not even close. Greenwood is one of the most natural finishers I've ever seen.

That second goal was some something else and nothing lucky about that. Top class talent. Would not be surprised if he reaches 20 goals this season itself. What a talent.

The way he can use both feet is incredible. Defenders marking him will have nightmares.

And he is a natrual finisher. Im in love!

Absolutely lethal player in the box. Seems to create space to shoot with ease and got banging power with both feet.

I’m actually surprised how good he actually is

His two footedness makes him such a dangerous player already, but it's his ability off both feet that is astounding. I genuinely expect him to score, or at the very least work the goalie, every single time the ball is at his feet within 20 yards.

This kid has just as much potential as Mbappe, and actually if you factor out Mbappe's pace, I think Mason's game is more rounded. I think he's an Old Trafford legend in the making, and he'll smash Rooney's record.

That second goal today by the way, the difficulty to hit that ball across the goal while running away from goal is just hard to even fathom. Brilliant.
