It's the performances more so than the results. Each game that has gone by we've looked more and more drained. This coupled with our inability to capitalise on the teams above us dropping points when the pressure is really on just adds to my pessimism.
Leicester look worse than us though. Youll see Chelsea suffer v Liverpool after this.
Everybody is suffering, Chelsea just had this strange window that gave them a huge advantage. Now Liverpool have had a week off v Chelseas 3 days rest and we will see their energy levels sapped.
Its just about grinding it out now. West Ham cant defend like this.
I do question our players commitment to the FA cup. We were just as bad v Norwich and didnt have the tiredness excuse then

I think thst this trophy is ours. If we win by 2 goals, Leicester needs to win against us by two. We will not feck up this

Edit: they scored more goals. So we need 3.0 win :)

I mean, I hope you're right, but the scars of last year still linger. It just doesn't feel like we've turned that corner in terms of keeping pace when the pressure is actually on to me.

If we beat WH by 2-0 Leicester can still clinch it by beating us by one goal. One goal for them would be -1 for us

No, Leicester beating us by 2 will be a 4 goal swing in their favour. But I think we're in a great position now. Technically only need 2 points to wrap it up. But we should be beating West Ham

Old man Vardy will rip young slow sluggish and drained Maquire apart to sort that GD out.

In all honesty, Chelsea vs Wolves isn't a sure fire thing, hope a Leicester-Man Utd draw leaves them out or something.

Totally agree. Ole and the team probably have it in them to still feck this up but we are in such a good position I just don't believe it. We simply have to do it.

If you win by 2 goals it'll need to be 5-3 or something.

You are both on + 28.
If you win 2-0, you'll go to +30.
If Leicester beat you by a goal they go to +29 and you to +29 and they will be 4th on goals scored.

You have to win by more than 2 or Leicester will only need 1.

Two keeper mistakes and a horrible injury and you can’t trust the team... Jesus
I like how you just ignored the Southampton performance, as well as Palace.

I don't think they'll feck it up, but the performances have not been comforting.

We are 4th based on goals scored! We have more than kept pace. Leicester are us from last season.
On the WH game, Id actually rotate for that game, take the risk that the worst we will get is a draw, just freshen everything up.
Rest the big guns for a massive game v Leicester regardless.

Looked tired and sluggish against Villa until a soft penalty put us ahead and Villa capitulated.
Picked the same lads against Southampton and looked even more leggy against a side that made us work incredibly hard. 10 minutes of good football in that game earned us a point.
Picked the same lads again against Palace and looked exhausted. Won the game but got the rub of the green on a couple of occasions and were far from convincing.
We had to rest players today. It's not even a matter of not taking the cup seriously because by playing players who have nothing left in the tank, we threw away any chance of getting through to the final.
Now we play an in form West Ham on Wednesday, in a crucial game for top 4, and we will have to play Maguire, Lindelof, Wan-Bissaka, Bruno, Martial, Greenwood and Rashford from the start.
The same guys will have to play then again on Sunday. This was a massive, massive mistake today, compounded by the decision to change our shape.

Man if this game today comes and haunts us I'll be so mad. Such a stupid stupid decision from Ole. Our tiredness was there for everyone to see in the last games

Palace is a tough place to go and we won. Soton was a blip as most of our midfield had a game to forget.

at this stage performances don’t matter it’s the results. We’ve played virtually every 3 days since we got back. You don’t think players get tired?

Sorry, I meant keep pace with our quality in games when the pressure is on. Whenever we get too close to achieving our goal, our quality as a team drops under the pressure.

I honestly don't think we're in a position to rotate. The drop in quality from our first eleven to our bench is huge, and we need to win this game.

This place is insufferable. We need two draws against West Ham & Leicester.
Cop on and stop panicking.

I'm hoping in-form west ham will not play out of their minds now that they are safe from the drop.

But knowing those game raising cnuts, its unlikely. Will be happy with a 1-0 or any sort of win.

Not even thinking about goal difference right now. We are knackered and the players need to somehow find that extra bit to get us over the line.

The players need to forget about today, clear their heads, it is done. That is football. It sucks but you cannot win everything when you are rebuilding.
West Ham is next and we need to absolutely feck them and exert our superiority. Then we will be okay.

Hoping we actually manage to defeat west ham at home.

Doesn't matter about the scoreline or performance at this stage! Would take a scrappy and nervy 1-0 win.

Does my head in.

Section of Utd fans on here seem happier when we lose so they can moan and cry and give us predictions of doom.
It gets pretty bad I agree.

But the FA Cup result has nothing to do with the league. In fact, we rested players precisely so we can have a bit more of an edge for these critical league matches.

As long as we can win the next one, we are in a good position to see it out.

As others have correctly observed, for the purposes of finishing above Leicester, United now have three tiers of results against West Ham:
  • A victory by 3 goals or more means United will have a buffer for a defeat at Leicester. A 3 goal win allows a 1 goal loss on the final day, 5 goal win allows a 2 goal loss, etc.
  • A win by 2 goals or less, or a draw, will mean a draw at Leciester on the final day is enough.
  • A loss means United have to win at Leicester.
Obviously for the purposes of finishing above Chelsea, a narrow win against West Ham will likely have more value than a draw.

Good that this game is in a few days so we can forget about tonight and move on quickly (which I think we will).

Start our best available 11 (any clue when Shaw's back?) and just absolutely thrash them from minute 1

May be a bit of an annoyance for Chelsea if they lose to Liverpool and we beat West Ham 3-0 then there’s the possibility of a result that suits both United and Leicester on the final day. I don’t care if we finish 3rd or 4th so let’s go all out to spank West Ham.

The main concern is at this point is how tired we look. West Ham will be well rested for Wednesday and Leicester now have a week to prepare for us. I'm not confident for either. We won't be beating West Ham by 3.

We wont need to if we get 3 points then we can very easily get a draw at least vs Leicester even if the lads are a little jaded.

Thats the worry. But we did rest some key players today. They only played minimal minutes so hopefully that helps.

The lads just have to find it in them to get us over the line in the next 2 matches. Its literally a "final" in the next one against west ham. We can secure top four with a big victory.

The premier league season has literally come down to the next match.

I fully expect it tbh but it's a good cushion.

Ah it just gets annoying. Too many people just lose their shit at any sign of negatives.

I think we'd be professional enough to go for a win on the last day regardless the results.

It would guarantee our top four place and thats all that matters really. Wouldnt trust someone like vardy to hold out for a draw or anything crazy like that.

I don’t see any possibility of a Leicester and United stalemate now. If Chelsea win either against Liverpool or on the final day, one of the other two can’t possibly finish top four. United will be playing to win that match for sure, even if we deliver a great result against West Ham.

Unless Aston Villa magically beat Arsenal then West Ham are likely to find out that they are mathematically safe from relegation whilst crowded together in a hotel lounge at 10pm the night before they play us

Highly doubtful they'll then put in a good performance against us.

Honestly, lamenting tiredness at this point is some sort of Gödel paradox. How can the lads possibly disprove it? Beat West Ham and people will point to not hammering them. Win by 4 and it will be seen as tiredness that we didn’t get a fifth for a bigger cushion on the final day.
