What are Bayern supposably asking for a fee ? Still got a year on his contract and don't see them letting him go too cheap. Especially not if he's playing like has done in recent games.

His wages will be a joke. This liverpool has another couple of years maybe at their peak if that then much of their team will need a rebuild.

He'll be their Sanchez, no need to worry folks
he was brilliant just a few nights ago! It didn’t take a professional scout to see Sanchez was on a serious slide and our contract was financial suicide! Thiago is going to be sick for a few seasons yet. Technically there’s very few if any midfielders in the PL who can do the things he does and for such a skilful player he works hard. Great signing.

You are saying that as if its a negative. They have won the PL and CL and still have a few more years?

Going off of the mid point to end of this season they have dropped off. Never said they were going to win the league and CL over the next 2 years but i can't see them dropping off by that much anytime soon that they aren't competing. They will have to start investing in some younger players sooner rather than later though.

:( Always liked him and enjoyed watching him play. Fantastic player when fit. We fecked up massively not signing him in 2013. Yeah he's 29, but given their team, he'll give them that world class quality in midfield, control, creativity that they were probably lacking before through the middle. You just hope City can do enough to stop them winning the league next year, as their squad will need rebuilding in a few years, but its the time to maximize that talent for them so it makes sense.

He would definitely add “something” to any team he’d join and I’d be envious if he went to Pool (hopefully the PSG rumors are true!) but I’m not convinced he is the signing they should be making. Midfield doesn’t seem to be their biggest issue, especially not “6” and “8”, but maybe they need a little more creativity (“10”), which Keita might provide - or it might not work out for him.

He will also come with massive wages, and in the next couple of years, they would need to refresh a couple of other areas as well. I guess a lot changes in football in 2 years, so we’ll see. And not better time to strengthen then while at the top.

Still a magnificent signing. Always been a fan.

This is on you Moyesy for turning him down in 2013,would never have played for that lot if you weren't obsessed with Fellaini that summer

Moyes dropping the ball with Thiago triggers a host of other bad transfer memories including Van Gaal turning down the chance to sign Kroos. With a DOF and a better manager, we could’ve had Kroos and Thiago.

Yeah that is sickening to say the least, this one feels even worse than when they got Fabinho

We passed on Thiago because our coaching staff (Giggsy in particular) didn’t fancy him and preferred Fabregas. Except Thiago actually wanted to join and Fabregas was playing us all along. Ironic, considering the reasoning for not wanting Thiago in the first place was doubts over his commitment and mentality.

I think Fellaini wasn’t connected to that. We still signed Mata in the winter because we couldn’t get the creative midfielder we wanted in the summer.

They will convert Fabinho into a defender and make room for Alcantara and Keita in Midfield.

Good signing for the dippers. Ed will be in shock, spending during Covid, how dare they!?
By all accounts they are very hesitant to spend anything which is why this still hasn’t been done even though it’s a massive discount, the player is begging to join and the seller wants to sell.

Woodward? Moyes was the one that didn’t fancy him
My understanding is that Giggs was against it because he didn’t think Thiago had the mentality to be Manchester United player. Phil Neville agreed with him and Moyes listened to them.

I doubt Woodward had anything to do with that, either way. It was a coaching decision.

You can see why Thiago would only want to go to Liverpool. Can experience the PL with the best team right at their peak. Also under one of the two best managers in Klopp, whilst having already played under Pep.

Hea a great player and all but its another 28 odd year old. The problem lays down the line when the team starts aging together

Red Card for Casemiro!
It is crazy that one of the best midfielders in the world is so cheaply available in his prime and no one else is interested - ironic how clubs are ready to pay over the odds for a possible decade of 'potential' (Frenkie De Jong for 75m, Rodri for 70m, Ndombele for 60m) but won't pay 30m for at least 2-3 years of world class performances from a serial-winner like Thiago (who's just 29, by the way).

United should have been in on this, too. As lauded as our midfield is, we suck at ball retention in general (especially under press) and don't have anyone who dictates the tempo. Thiago would have been a great fit. That said, he fits in perfectly for Liverpool with his energetic movement and will give them a new dimension with his quality on the ball.

Am I correct in thinking he has only got two assists this season?
If so, that's really poor!!

Thiago is class, I always liked him but he isn't going to fit every systems. He has always played for very dominant sides, and there are not a lot of options for him with similar playstyles : City, Liverpool, PSG and that's about it. Real Madrid, Manchester United, Juventus would be very different to the system he's used to play in, and therefore a bit mor risky for him and for the club.
As a football fan I'd love to see him in a different system with more emphasis on his end product but I'm not sure that he wants it himself.

  Then why did all the professional scouts approve the deal? Let's not re-write history on a failed transfer.

Below 30m € there's a strong argument to be made for Bayern to ride out his contract to increase their chances at another run for the Uefa Champions League.

Haven't kept track of that story at all.
He had a contract from Bayern on the table where his demands were met before walking away from it. His current contract ends next year. Bayern is allegedly asking for €30m and it seems he has his eyes set on Liverpool.
I also see no better option than Liverpool for him if he wants a new challenge (which he does).

I wouldn't be waiting to try sign him for free next year if I were Liverpool. It's a low fee and anything could happen next season including him deciding he doesn't want to go there anymore. Plus he'd be a year older joining them.
