Will be very surprised if we spend £65m on Chilwell, he's got a 4 year contract so we have no leverage and he's worth about £20m tops given his quality and the current financial outlook for football in my view. Generally we don't do that kind of business and especially not in the current situation.

False rumours or being leaked for some other purpose...
I think the most conservative value for Chilwell is at least £40m, whether we like it or not. I know a lot of people don't rate him, but I don't know if people genuinely think he's crap and if they're just put off by the rumoured fee.

Someone on twitter compared him to Reguilon in 10 different defensive categories and Chilwell came out on top in 7/10. It doesn't mean he's worth £40m more, but combine those stats with the eye test, and it's not hard for me to see why Lampard really wants him.

there's also the fact we don't want to sell, if you just want a left back go buy someone cheaper, you want our left back you have to meet our price

If a team you don't like is signing someone, you always quote the highest rumoured price, regardless of the source. Redcafe rule number 2.
or when the move is completed you take the actual price and add on 15m....just because.

I'm pretty certain the two clubs engaging in 'talks' means it's not as as simple as 'meet our price or else'. I don't know what Leicester's true valuation of Chilwell is, but if the rumoured £80m asking price is accurate, I feel pretty confident we can get him a lot less than that.

Funny, united fans said that about Maguire they ended up meeting our price...

you making an offer and us laughing as we put the phone down technically “talking” about the transfer

Why he's got 4 years left on his contract so no pressure on Leicester to sell till 2022/3. Almost no chance we pay the premium Leicester want now. Lampard wants him no doubt about that, like with Willian be really surprised if the club break the bank to get the deal done.

Not sure what you're laughing about, he's absolutely right. Dont see any reason why Leicester would negotiate differently than they did with Maguire.

So strap in, enjoy the ride and good luck with your pretty good english player from Leicester who you overpaid for.

Chelsea only have themselves to blame for how we act, they caught us napping over Kante’s release clause since then we don’t do them and play hardball, you’d think they would have learned from the Drinkwater, Mahrez and Maguire deals

Ah gotcha, the dynamics of conversations between selling and buying clubs supporters are definitely a bit of a minefield from time to time.
Hardly I simply pointed out how Leicester do things and I gave the example of United fans saying they would get Maguire for less than we asked a year ago ...

Not sure if you are saying he is good or bad, either way, you may want to watch him. He has just been average, neither bad nor great.
Shaw’s been very good all season WHEN he has been fit, the trouble is every season you can expect him to miss a big chunk of games due to injury.
Is Williams (natural RB) good enough to cover that position long term? I think we all know the answer to that so maybe better to buy a new first choice LB and let Shaw be the competition when fit.

Buying clubs want top talent with a Covid discount, but the selling clubs don't want to. That's the recurring theme.

All big transfer rumours are seemingly fading away - Sancho, Havertz, Rice, Chilwell, Grealish.

I think selling clubs are banking on the belief that the effect of Covid-19 won't be too bad next year. I'm sure this will be the driest summer transfer window in a long time.

The economic impact of covid-19 is very real. Just look at the unemployment rate and the GDP contraction around the world. Like you said I don't think there will be any big money transfer this summer at all.

Chelsea have already made several of them themselves

I'm not being funny but Maguire was an established international footballer, Chilwell has had about two seasons at best in the Premier league starting eleven.

Maguire only had 3 at the time we sold him, 1 with Hull 2 with us

And we paid 80 million for Maguire

Chelsea are definitely doing something dodgy when it comes to transfers, they always seem to get players for peanuts and sell theirs for profit.

Hypothetically when buying a player they can pay part of the fee in a hidden offshore account :)

I m not saying they use offshore accounts (like City for eg :)) but it s something that can be done

You were pretty vocal last summer about how we wouldn't get Maguire, and you seemed fairly certain Leicester would get top price for Chilwell.

Instead you seem to be giving them a no champions league reduction!

Boils down to a few things i imagine, the main one most likely being Marina's better at her job than Woodward.

I seriously think its 50 million wasted mate. He is a bang average player. His hype is because he is English. John Stones Mk2.

I'd say its more of a Wan Bissaka level purchase. Nothing special, not bad either with a sprinkle of an English passport.

Chelsea once again demonstrating how you do business in the transfer window. They might not always hit it right with their targets but our success rate doesn't seem much better.

The difference is they are efficient in buying and selling, so they have a better chance of getting more good to great signings overall in absolute terms.

We, on the other hand, have that clown Woodward who'd be negotiating with his spoon for his breakfast before agreeing to not eat for a week.
