Only three signings isn’t enough again if we actually truly want to compete. We need better depth, and we need some better starters.

I know this has been our MO for the last 3 seasons or so — about £90-150m spent with about 3/4 players in — but we really do need a little bit more than that. We are the closest we’ve been in a while, probably the closest we’ve been post SAF, but we really need to take advantage of that. Especially when it looks like Liverpool are brassic and City are a bit iffy (though we all expect them to spunk money for fun soon). We can’t let Chelsea close the gap in a better way than we do.
You need to remember who runs this club and they will be absolutely delighted with third place because means they need to make little investment again

Doesn't signing starters technically imply that we will to depth as well?

Exactly. They know that to win the PL they need to spend a lot and the financial return for this outlay is not enough to.cover extra expenses incurred.

I mean, yeah. But don’t ruin my point.

It’s a weird one isn’t it? From the outside looking in we have spent an awful lot of money in the past however many years, but it doesn’t feel like we’ve properly gone balls to the wall with the actual intent of saying, “yeah, this year we’re competing”.

question

why are we not really linked to players?

there is the odd link that is so obviously made up as there always is, but the decent journalists say we will battle for sancho but no real articles with lists of names? I saw one the other day saying we would like sancho and grealish but money is a major barrier, I saw some journalist say in a vague way that we would like a rw, cm, cb but no names bar JS.

usually we would have way more... is this linked to united really not anticipating adding bodies, or trying to be a bit coy as we have been in the past some summers, or...

Love think pieces like this.

It’s like your hatred for the Glazers has blinded you.

Our outlay since SAF left is...:wait for it....I’m gonna blow your mind.....

£850MILLION POUNDS.

Thats....

EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION POUNDS

yes you read that right...

EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION POUNDS

That’s only

£150M

....

ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION POUNDS

Shy of £1Billion

That’s ....

ONE BILLION POUNDS

But yes let’s run with the narrative that both Ed and the Glazers are penny pinchers and don’t want to invest.....after all that’s makes for much better and juicier reading.

Glazers don't want to win swimming contest. They want to tread water.

All for 1 League Cup,1 EL,1 FA Cup and 2 Charity Shields.

Its amazing, even in this covid climate, fans still, still expect us to blow over 150 million, with most of it going on 1 individual.
Again, this place is living on cloud cuckoo-land.

This. I think the Glazers are happy to spend, but when you buy Mourinho two CB's and then he comes in and asks for a 3rd even a non footballing board will question the wisdom of continuing to spend.

Their return on investment from Ole especially with Bruno should hopefully convince them to start spending again.

With all due respect I think that s a bit disrespectful for him.
Ok he s past it, but he s one of the few gentlemen out there in a world full of greedy agents/directors and immature players.
You're right, he's a good lad.

Sounds like Silva was just waiting for a decent offer from Spain. He could have renewed with City for another season or move to MLS / Qatar.

There is a professional way to do business though
If you would rather go back to your home country and got an opportunity at the last minute to do so, after agreeing to start a new job somewhere else - why the hell would you go through with something you'd rather not do.

I'm going to blow your mind... We spent EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION POUNDS but... THAT'S STILL LESS THAN WE COULD HAVE SPENT!! And that's because of the leaches.

Plus it's not like we haven't sold players. All big clubs have big turnover of fees for players in and out. United should be able to spend every. single. penny. we can on transfers/stadium/academy. Just like our main rivals across Europe do. They don't have owners taking millions out of the club, we do. So I don't care how much we have spent, I care how much we could have spent.

He should've given Lazio the heads up though, rather than let them hear about it on Twitter. Makes him look like a coward not to make a call after he'd told them he would go there.

Do you not think we could have spent more and invested more with owners that do not seek a financial return, a la Madrid, Barca, PSG, City? How so?
Christ, you were actually being serious

Obviously we could've spent more, but you'd have to be pretty fecking thick to believe that the problem is we haven't spent more money instead of what we've spent money on.

The past 5 years we've spent £140mill more than Liverpool and we've got feck all to show for it.
