I agree with every word that Winter says. So what now?
His sisters misfortune has nothing to do with him fighting with cops and trying to bribe them.
Sorry but you don't establish that he fought the cops and bribed them based on a 1 day trial with NO evidence.

Its an absolute joke.

This isn't good for Mykonos' tourism industry too, which I find baffling if I were to think from a Greek standpoint. It's celebrity central at times, and famous faces will look at the Maguire situation and think "even if there's a 30% chance he's right, feck taking the risk and getting scammed by their police".

Regardless of what actually happened, the whole affair has left a sordid taste and is an embarassment for the club. Think he has to be stripped of the captaincy.

People on here seem to be in 2 very distinct camps without any middle ground.

The "sack him" what a disgrace types, and the "this is clearly a joke" camp.
Seems so. I'm sure that the Greek court is trying to make an example out of him but I'm just as sure that Maguire isn't innocent of all he's accused.

Not really,I've seen a good amount in the middle, myself included, who don't necessarily buy all the dodgy details reported by the police but also think Harry put the club in a tough spot.

Would love for it to be found that he was actually defending his sister against unsolicited aggression and predatory behavior but it's still a bad look from the outside, outside of the fanbase, looking in right now given the lack of clarity. Him being found guilty will only increase the media circus surrounding this heading into the new season
How on EARTH is this a bad look in ANYONE’s books?

Not 1 fan would do anything different if their own sister was getting attacked. Not one fan!

It doesn’t look bad on the club either

He allegedly was protecting his sister.

His family

His bloodline

feck what MUFC think.

If I’m Harry and that did happen, I’m putting my life on the line to protect her.

I sure as shit am not thinking about the club.

Everyone having a negative view on Harry protecting his own Sister in case it tarnishes the club need to get a grip

It has everything to do with it

This sort of thing can't just be accepted as "the way things are" in a country like Greece without fighting a case.

Corrupt police is something you shouldn't have to deal with anywhere in the world and there's no way there wasn't a rat involved in this. It stinks to high hell of someone after a payout.

Fair play to him for appealing out of principal when he could've let himself get fecked and moved on.

Well done Harry.

I come from a part of the world where crooked cops are a staple so I’ve had my fair shares of run ins with them and one thing I know is that these types of cops will rarely if ever go out of their way to fix you up if there is nothing in it for them.
The main question I would have is why would the police go out of their way to get Harry in trouble when there is nothing in it for them? Usually this type of affair ends with a nice payment being made at the station and you never hear about it again.
yeah seriously... he could have paid them off If it wasn’t a super serious incident. I doubt Greece want this kind of press either...

Hypothetically about if a man was sitting on a seat and he helped up a little old lady from falling, police only see him picking her up off the floor & arrest and charge him for assault. Bystanders only see her fall and this man get up and try to pick her up. From the bystanders view it looks like he pushed her. Said man now gets charged and is found guilty of assualt. - Should this man’s rep be tarnished for ever for not having the full story or listening to his side of events?

But Winter is right. What happened to Maguire happened to other players before him. He has to admit that he s no longer the boy living next door - which will change his lifestyle.

Next time, he employs a bodyguard to take with him on vacation and go to places which are more secure for someone like him. He s known as being a down to earth person, but he cannot be that any more. At least that's what's his new role demands
No I don't think that it should be standard practice for footballers to have to hire bodyguards in case someone drugs and presumably attempts attempts to rape their sister. And if such an incident does occurs the law should be on their side.

I hope we strip this thug of the captaincy. Bringing the club’s name into disrepute
You put a lot of faith in the accuracy of the report of events from greek police there chief.

This was a sham verdict from a sham court proceeding, nothing of this holds up in a modern legal system.

21 months suspended sentence and a fine. Book closed
It's not closed. He's appealing.
Needs to be transfer listed immediately. Not that anyone else would be stupid enough to buy him . A total disgrace to the shirt. Disgusting behaviour from him
Jesus. I'm not biggest fan on the porch but this is ridiculous.
Its the bribery charge I'd be concerned about. Anybody know what the punishment for this might be in Greece?
Haven't they sentenced him?

His sister was drugged. I don't know if that has happened to another player.

Wont someone think of the Times staff? This is clearly personal for them.

This case seems nuts. If Maguire's sister really was attacked its disgusting that such a serious issue is being swept under the rug. Id be stunned if this is the last step in this case
Bore off Winter.

I mean, who’s paying them off?
I dunno, United, Maguire himself?
Either way it's a total sham, I mean, it's nothing more than a punch up between drunks, it happens every weekend. If they bothered this much with every fight there'd be hundreds of Brits serving time in Mykonos.
At the end of the day it's their word against his.
It happened to me in this country, dodgy copper picked a fight with a couple of lads, got his ass kicked then picked my name off a list and pinned it on me.
I ended up in court charged with affray and assaulting a copper. The prick even stood there and lied about it.
I only got away because he had not a shred of evidence to prove it despite me not even being in the same town that night. That's how easy it is.

Tbh i wont go near greece after hearing shit about blokes injecting girls in the arm. Wasnt even like a spiked drink. Just dosed in public. Even if its not true i wouldnt risk It. PR backfire for them. Half of me thinks it is true and they have to make him out to be a liar to protect tourist image
If the Albanian drug injection story is true, it cant be the first time its happened, and if you did your proper due diligence, you would be able to find out the same.

Which begs the question why the hell did he go there in the first place. And once there, why was he drunk and out on the town, and within the vicinity of nefarious gangsters? I don't Maguire is innocent or devoid of very bad choices in any angle of this incident.

I swear every day I find a new ludicrous post from you.

If everything about the club offends you, maybe it's not a great match, and you might be happier elsewhere?

Probably not, but probably not as bad as they are making out and they made sure nobody could actually see that.

Think you're supporting the wrong club if you don't think the Old Trafford faithful won't be even more behind Maguire after this absolute bullshit

We supposed to completely ignore this potential kidnapping of his sister as if it's nothing? Pretty easy to find out if she was telling the truth, not really an easy thing to lie about which makes me believe Maguire's side the whole way. Whole thing stinks.

Seen the verdict?

Some of yous still have no clue how it works.
It's not about the verdict or this case at all, to be honest (which you've so far failed to understand in your replies to others). It's about you implying getting into trouble with the police is a completely normal occurrence on a night out.

This will surely have an effect on him I fear, he's only human.
I hope he has a support network open to him, both personally and at United, who can get him through whatever comes of this incident. Obviously I'm not close to the matter but I doubt it'll have serious ramifications for his footballing career, for example I'd be surprised if he lost the captaincy of United or England next year.

Calm down my lad, I hope just like you that those versions of events are true but I'm just looking at it from an outside point of view and any clubs captain of player of note being arrested and charged abroad would be a bad look.

Doesn't mean it's right nor just but thats just how things are in the world today the same way any CEO or executive level employee being caught in legal trouble will reflect poorly on their company/employer regardless of how just they are in whatever actions led to said legal trouble.

Heck that applies even for regular people like us, we probably wouldn't even be allowed to plead our case before getting reprimanded by our employers if ever we were charged with an offense.

It's always a matter of optics in todays image driven world where news travels at lightning speed, as unfair as it may be

The sentence has been done. 21 month and for some reason 10 days, suspended.
That was quick. Suspended sentence makes it sound like they were only minor offenses. But 21 months and 10 days sounds like some serious crime(s) were committed. Not sure what the club should do about it.

Whatever way you look at it, it is publicity the club would prefer not to have. I didnt know you were so in the know regarding the facts of what happened

Possibly although Fergie had to personal go to the station in order to pick Keane up after he was arrested for allegedly kicking a woman. I'm pretty this happened on the same week as the FA Cup final in 99.

Keane was still United captain afterwards. But yeah it's put Ole into a difficult situation.

It was just a joke.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

Winter isn’t right. He’s saying he should apologise for crimes he refuses took place and is now appealing against because he didn’t take a bodyguard with him on holiday. It’s one of the most illogical tweets I’ve ever seen.
