"Guardiola withdraws from Koulibaly move, for now, after Napoli rejected Manchester City’s latest offer of €60M." + "City won’t be making a new offer for Kalidou Koulibaly in the near future, it seems. The defender could renew his contract with Napoli."

De Laurentiis asking for €80m+ is simply ridiculous, honestly I don't even think Koulibaly's worth more than €40-50m.
Koulibaly has had a nice career, all things considered, but the Napoli owner stopped him from moving to Chelsea a few years ago, when we were trying to build on a title winning team, by massively over-pricing him, and it appears he's doing the same again when he has the chance to join City. If this move collapses, he likely loses his last shot at a big move.

He seems happy in Naples though.

The fact that we could possibly get 5-10 million for Romero should be a logical reason why we really need to be gambling a bit more on free agent transfers, especially with the Glazer's holding back the club's true spending power.

Talk of Fred to Roma on loan
This would be absolutely pointless as there is no way it would result in Roma offering anything near what we paid for him even if he had a good season with them, we would be lucky to get an offer of 25 million from the penny pinching Italian club

Sounds like we are prepared to wait it out and take on all the competition for his signature next summer which is risky
We need improvements this season (not just Cb position). Otherwise we risk wasting a season in terms of results/challenge for trophies

How is Romero great and Henderson unconvincing?
Let me flip it to you. How is Henderson great and Romero unconvincing?

He has done more than Romero has, one of the best GKs in the league last season. Romero has hardly played in the PL.
Well of course he's done more than Romero last season.

what a weird post
Why is it weird? Henderson's only 'great' because he currently doesn't play for United and Sheffield had an ok season. The way people talk about him you'd think he's prime Neuer. If he is going to challenge DDG this season, we'll all see how great he really is won't we. So just chill.

He isn’t and anyone saying this is talking complete bull. Can you imagine Thiago being the deepest midfielder in the Premier League? Can get away with it in the Bundesliga with that Bayern squad. He is a fantastic player but we don’t need him unless Pogba was sold. It would just be a vanity signing or simply to stop Liverpool. I would prefer the €30m and likely £250k plus a week to be spent on position we actually need like RW or striker.
If we signed Thiago - he'd easily be the best midfielder at the club. He's an immense player.

It wouldnt be a vanity signing - it would be a signing that makes us much much better

Just because one thing isn't true doesn't mean the opposite is true so I don't think the question is really relevant.

Henderson was 3rd in the league last season for save % and 6th for PSxG in his first full season in the Premier league so he's performing well.

His distribution doesn't seem to be the best and he has a poor pass completion rate (34%) but he has a lot of attempted passes into the final third so this could be down to the manager's tactics at Sheffield.

Romero has been solid against mostly poor opposition and is rarely ever under pressure. I don't believe he is a great keeper in the grand scheme of things but I also don't think he's ever really been tested at United. He's only ever played 7 games in the PL, the last of which was 2017/2018. I don't think we've seen enough of him to conclude whether or not he is great, regardless of the love he gets on here.

You do understand that playing for Sheffield United is very different to playing for Manchester United, don't you? And I'm going to ignore the stats because they're usually pointless.

We are done for the summer aren't we? Quickly got in a signing so fans will shut up. Nothing that will take us much further though.

Yeah, that's exactly it. 40 million quid on shutting the fans up. But you're sure showing them!

The more fanciful paper talk around thiago and upa seems to be quashed now

I'd imagine the summer will be continuing to push for Sancho at a more reasonable deal and hope he asks to leave, keep looking at defensive targets without being under pressure to sign anyone there (although I agree that quality at left back would be high up my personal list to sign)

Mitten still thinks we sign another but who that will be is anyone's guess quite frankly. Personally I think Utd could look at Jack as a wide player which I know won't please some people

Wouldn't mind a LB but not at the expense of not signing a wide player which is badly needed

We he did sign extensions too. If he wanted a big move he should have waited it out and got it.

Not entirely sure 2 signings were what Ole had in mind from the board when he said “They know what I want, it’s over to them” at the end of the season.
No think it would have been more like 3 starters with a squad option too

Well obviously it's different but he performed well in comparison to the other goal-keepers in the league and he's only 23 which is young for a keeper.

If you're one of these people who think stats are pointless, then there isn't much point in having a discussion.

I'm sure you can judge a player with your eyes, have watched each of his games and your memory is flawless.

It’s quite obvious that we are purely focused on Sancho and will take advantage of possible opportunities should they come up (such as VDB). Don’t think Thiago is one of them unless Pool pull out the same way Real did with VDB.

Not solely. Come on, the overrating of Romero is over the top on here, really.
Not overrating. It’s more like underrating. Weaker team is it? They still shoot the same deadly shot every now and then. DDG conceded far many more goals then real weaker team in the EL. Not saying at all he’s better. But saying he’s a damn good gk. Didn’t realise he was 33. Understandable he’s should go.

Him being a reserve for us is irrelevant. He's the best backup goalkeeper in the league and possibly the world. Rarely ever puts a foot wrong and you could easily get another 4 years out of him. Also selling to a team in the same league as us.
Ederson cost €40 million. Courtois cost €35 million very recently. The fact that he’s been a back up for multiple teams is very relevant. He’s barely played against Premier League opposition, and suffered from knee injuries.

Great back up, but not a £30 million goalkeeper.

Except for getting what we paid for Lukaku.... that was the best piece of business selling wise United have ever done.
Schneiderlin for me, he was a nothing player who didn't contribute anything, and the club sold him for nearly the same amount they bought him for.
