Were The Athletic journalists ever blindsided? They never spoke about this transfer until things started to pick up. The only journalists talking about us monitoring van de Beek were journalists based outside of England and English journalists who base their stories off of them.

English journalists don't tend to have links outside of their football clubs, so it doesn't surprise me that they struggle to get up-to-date, instant info.

A fact that many on here will willfully ignore in the coming months as they bash us for being incompetent in the market. Which isn't to say we've been perfect, or that I would be OK with us tapping out after signing VdB this summer, but it's important to give credit where due.
