See exactly my point. A tiny snippet from an article where the journalist is either guessing or just reporting on the general feel (twitter BS) is treated like a headline breaking story by these accounts. That quote is nothing.

Why would we compare to the scousers? They play 3 carthorses in midfield to cover for their fullbacks being given license to attack.

We on the other hand have been playing Bruno and Pogba in midfield which is why “normal” fullbacks suit us more
Full backs who contribute offensively are ‘normal’. Full-backs who offer little attacking penetration are a rarity.

Also, there is a tendency to make full-backs worse defensively the better they are in attack. There’s nothing wrong with Reguilón defensively, and if he were not so eye-catching with his attacking contribution, he would not be seen as some sort of liability by default. He is fine defensively.
Yes but Liverpool would be much better if they had a Bruno or similar high work-rate player that was more creative than what they have, as they struggled to break teams down that sat back against them because of this. Let's not act like Liverpool are a perfect team or this is exactly how Klopp wanted to play, as I'm sure he would like to have more creativity from his midfielders but doesn't have that option.
Exactly this. Klopp has tried to improve the creativity in his midfield many times. He bought Keita who has so far failed, tried to sign Fekir and wants Thiago.

it depends how you choose to read into the information. I see these kind of tweets as more like “updates” rather than breaking news.

This would be perfect. Williams can move to the right to cover and/or keep pressure on AWB.

You’re right but they know full well how most people read into the information.

Great going forward, but very weak defensively. Unless we feel strongly that our CBs will be able to cover for his deficiency in that aspect of the game, he won't be an immediate upgrade for us. Always good to have strong squad competition, though, so I wouldn't be opposed to the acquisition.

True, but a left back like that up against bus-parkers at Old Trafford could be pretty useful.

Very good point.

Liverpools whole system is designed to get the ball back quickly and high and then get it out to the full backs in threatening areas.

This was not so much the case when they had Coutinho in midfield who provided the creativity. The likes of Moreno and Clyne were not as critical to their attacks.

Our system is different in that virtually all our creativity comes from our midfield play makers. Primary objective for our full backs is to be able to defend well and support the attack by providing width.

I admit AWB does need to up his offensive game but in our system I’d much rather have him as a primary defensive beast and work on his offensive side. If we get Sancho, we would be even less reliant on his offensive side of the game. His true value will be when shown when we have someone like Sancho whom AWB can allow to remain as far forward as possible and not be required to track back much as barely anything gets past AWB. That’s where I feel Sancho will be deadly in counter attacks as AWB will give him the licence to do what he does best.

I am in complete agreement. We have often looked like we're missing an extra dimension against the low block, and having a true attacking force from our fullbacks would help tilt the scales our way.

Yes it's a strange phenomenon in which fullbacks aren't allowed to be considered good going forward and defensively.

Sir Alex played with Brown at RB on 08 and Jones or Smalling after that. He never played with 2 attacking FB. Hell Neville made a career of backing Beckham up rather than attacking himself. He even evolved into playing Rooney and Park wide taking away our width altogether

Rafael didnt play that often? Plus Evra wasnt as attacking as people remember anyway. He did a lot of what Shaw does with quick little build up movements but rarely got to the byline. Rafael was an attacking FB.

You must have a complete different memory of Evra to me.

Exactly. That’s why I tell people to judge AWB when all things are equal. At the moment he’s expected to do it all. Put sancho or another equally quality right winger ahead of him and see his game really progress

I have to disagree on Evra mate. Evra was one of the most attacking full backs we've had at the club. In fact he was so good offensively that a gripe a lot of fans had near the end of his utd career was him not getting back into position due to him attacking so much. He used every opportunity to get forward. It was one of the reasons I was happy to see Shaw arrive as I hoped Shaw would do what Evra used to do for us.

No, c’mon, you must remember how good Evra was going forward!?

Early in his career he was as an attacking winger. He was playing left back when we bought him but his defensive qualities were less developed than his attacking.

My memory of him is that he got to the byline very often for a full back.

Yep, Evra used to be a winger at first and moved to full back. Nearly all my memories of Evra are of him attacking rather than defending. I even remember him scoring from 3 headers in one season for a full back! Can never forget his top bins against Neuer too!

Why are Real offering him around Europe if he’s the best in La Liga?
It's been mentioned a few times in the thread. They spent 45m euro on Mendy last summer. Zidane feels he prefers Mendy and Marcelo as his left back options. Madrid probably feel its one position where they can afford to sell in order to raise much needed funds. If they didn't buy Mendy last summer, I'm pretty certain this kid would be playing left back for them next season after his impressive loan spell.

Reguilón has no place in the RM. Zidane bets on Mendy, and Marcelo does not want to leave

The best placed is Man. United, but the problem is that they do not want to include a buyback option

⚪ Sevilla insists on a new loan

Same story as a week ago. Non-starter if that’s the case.

Still think we could get him if Ole wants it enough, however today has been a bit quieter than I expected since the Telles stuff earlier in the day though

I could see the buyback option being a real non-starter for finishing this deal. It's hard to make out what the player's wishes are but if we base it off other players from Spain, the preference would probably be for the player to want to move back to RM if possible at a later date (i.e. when Marcelo hangs his boots up). United, rightfully, aren't gonna waste their time with this scenario. Let's see if the player and RM agree to sell him outright.

Yeah, I wouldn't touch a player with a RM buyback clause. The uncertainty of it wrecked Morata's form at Juventus.

Top clubs very rarely agree to buyback clauses when they are buying. I’d expect us to negotiate a higher fee for its removal or it’ll be a non starter. Real Madrid probably do need the money though so I reckon we’ll get him.

Does a buy back mean much in the grand scheme of things? If Madrid come in for him in 2-3 years time, he’ll want to go back regardless of any clause - and we’ll probably end up granting his wish.

I’d obviously prefer to sign him without one but if the player wants to go, these days they usually do.

From the little I’ve seen of him, he should add a great deal to our left flank. But for whatever reason, I can’t see this one happening

Telles looks to be off to Wolves so would expect Utd to pull the trigger on this one now but could be wrong

It depends on how much the buyback, and how much we buy him for. A 30m buy with 45m buyback doesn't make sense. Make it 75m, then the buyback is worth it.
