There are levels of racism. No one forgets the 1994 crime bill, but Joe Biden isn’t out there applauding ‘very fine people’.You'll have to narrow that down a bit, are you talking about Biden or Trump voters?

Do Americans actually find SNL funny? I'm a Brit so I've never understood if there's some cultural thing at play or it's just terrible. This is just great!
Levels people are willing to overlook, hence me asking for clarity over who the terrible people 'happy to turn a blind eye to blatant, overt racism' voted for. There are levels of racism. No one forgets the 1994 crime bill, but Joe Biden isn’t out there applauding ‘very fine people’.
I have the same exact feeling. I guess the big thing about it is that it's live. Or something.Do Americans actually find SNL funny? I'm a Brit so I've never understood if there's some cultural thing at play or it's just terrible.
So...we're back to my initial argument again which is in the spirit of your post. I quoted NoLogo who claimed 72M people thought it was totally cool, to which I responded that's oversimplifying it.Why is there even a need to generalise? People have different priorities. Most would have voted for selfish reason ranging from wanting lower taxes to abortion ban or immigration ban. The point here is while not all of them are card carrying racists, they were willing to turn a blind eye to blatant, overt racism in order to get what they want.
People also identify themselves differently, they may see themselves as conservative/Christian before black/Asian/Latino etc.... Even in the Hispanic communities, there’s conflict in identifying as white or Hispanic for many of them, which guides their political belief in some cases.
You can quibble about whether Joe Biden has changed during those 26 years, but racial animosity isn’t a part of the political message he ran on in 2020. The same excuse doesn’t extend to Trump, just watch the RNC again.Levels people are willing to overlook, hence me asking for clarity over who the terrible people 'happy to turn a blind eye to blatant, overt racism' voted for.
As a fellow Brit I can't speak for Americans but I just found this quite delicious with the throw-back to Ace Ventura at the end.Do Americans actually find SNL funny? I'm a Brit so I've never understood if there's some cultural thing at play or it's just terrible.

It goes in waves. The early 90's were awesome.I have the same exact feeling. I guess the big thing about it is that it's live. Or something.
If you agree then you basically had issue with his choice of words rather than substance.So...we're back to my initial argument again which is in the spirit of your post. I quoted NoLogo who claimed 72M people thought it was totally cool, to which I responded that's oversimplifying it.
I agree though that they overlook racism for personal priorities.
No clean politician. If they're clean chances are they're stopped at county level at best.So...we're back to my initial argument again which is in the spirit of your post. I quoted NoLogo who claimed 72M people thought it was totally cool, to which I responded that's oversimplifying it.

Not really. Massively oversimplification.Whilst I would agree that it's an over-simplification, the following still holds true...
Correct. If you agree then you basically had issue with his choice of words rather than substance.
Its just real sad. He used to be one of America's most respected politicians. To think this guy was NY mayor...
Calling on @KirkDuyt and @calodo2003, this is where the Twitter world needs you to combine to form a Flaming Bag O Dicks. Do it for the children!Tweet

All I know is he was a driving factor into fighting the Mafia in NYC. Don't know anything about his mayor reign though, how do New Yorkers think about him?Its just real sad. He used to be one of America's most respected politicians.
"Well I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black." and telling someone they should vote for Trump for daring to criticize the (definitely not racist) Obama-era deportations were both during this election, right? You can quibble about whether Joe Biden has changed during those 26 years, but racial animosity isn’t a part of the political message he ran on in 2020. Rob Schneider the carrot? I thought he was considered a global joke.It goes in waves. The early 90's were awesome.
From 91-92 alone you had: Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Victoria Jackson, Kevin Nealon, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Adam Sandler and Tim Meadows.
Late 90's and early 2000's starred Will Farrell, Jimmy Fallon, Molly Shannon, Tracy Morgan and Tina Fey
There were some real dog years though
Its not just Bidens problem. And there lies the problem for Biden.

America is way too big. Shouldn’t be one country.Which sort of brings you back to xenophobia and abortion as the things that seem to override most parts of the argument about who would best protect traditional values.
This man is an utter cnut
It's very hit and miss and depends on who they have on, but Alec Baldwin is almost always worth a watch for his Trump.Do Americans actually find SNL funny? I'm a Brit so I've never understood if there's some cultural thing at play or it's just terrible.
I see you went to the Red Dreams School of Paragraphing. Not really. Massively oversimplification.
Hypothetical...
If one party had me believe my tax would go up, my current civil liberties would be infringed upon, my business is at risk of temporary closure, and that unchecked immigration would see the environment I know and loved, changed forever.... I’d probably be able to ignore the racism.
Key line there is ‘Had me believe’. I could absolutely rationalise voting for someone racist if it protected my personal situation.
All of us have these kind of internal battles.
I’ve travelled extensively around America (but nothing like enough). 40-50 year old Republican Conservatives just remind me of my 85 year old grandfather (would have been 94 now). Heck, my father had some terrible views just 20 years ago.
Reducing America’s problems to sentence on a sandwich board... is evidence of the cause of those problems.
Whats Irelands views on abortion?America is way too big. Shouldn’t be one country.
Sat in London right now, I can appreciate the difference between my views of Abortion, and Ireland’s. I can understand my views on Immigrants vs both Northern France and Southern France.
I freely accept that I should not be able to vote to decide their lived existence. That would be nuts. In America, that’s life. They are not a homogenous people.
There’s this idea that Democrats are good and progressive and that Republicans are bad. On policy, I’d agree. But people don’t vote on policy.
If I was broke down in the middle of nowhere and knocked on a door, I know that Republican or Democrat is not the deciding factor in whether they let me on to use the phone. It’s where I am in that country.
Yes, because he needs an opening argument for those Court appearances.Tweet

If this country split in 2 based on political leanings I do believe my Trump loving brothers and sisters would come in for a shock. I think (so please don't take this as 100% fact) I read that somewhere in the range of 70+% of the USA's GDP comes from blue states. Most red states (maybe not Texas??) are net takers from the federal government (i.e. they receive more in funding then they pay in). This fact always makes me chuckle when I see conservatives rail about socialism and wealth redistribution.America is way too big. Shouldn’t be one country.

So many big names and now for the most part the longest person on the show consecutively is Kenan, about as funny as an ant.It goes in waves. The early 90's were awesome.
