Kind of incredible this group, a couple of games changed everything.

Yeah we should never be losing to Istanbul and now made it so hard for ourselves
I wish I had written it down, but I had a feeling that the Istanbul game was the trap game of the group for United, especially after the confidence they had from the PSG game. PSG went from looking out of the group to likely topping it in those last couple of games too.

I am still in disbelief at how badly we've fecked this up. This should not have come to this.

Right now it feels like we’ve blown it. But in reality, it’s still in our hands.

The timing and result of the Istanbul game is a killer for us.That match pretty much blew the group wide open as it happened at the midway point.

Looking at this thread title again, ehh guys I really really hope we get through, because this thread title will become an absolute troll for the next few years if we go out.

The bare minimum for us, PSG & Leipzig against Istanbul was 6 points. Leipzig have obliged, PSG will oblige, but we did not oblige. If we go out next week, we only have ourselves to blame for not getting the bare minimum in the group done when required.

That said, given next week’s game is away, I’m more confident of getting a result in Germany.

Dude. Don't put strain on our heart.

We don't need to win in our final game, especially with PSG likely wrap up the top spot...
If we're out cos of that stupid loss in Istanbul...

This thread has aged like milk

If you’re in a “group of death” and you lose to the whipping boys you’re always going to be in big big trouble.
It's not a group of death. The German guys have everton's transfer budget. The treble group was a group of death. It was us, Bayern, barca and psv

Correct.

United and PSG will move on and this farce will all be forgotten.

It will be a real shame if we go out of the group stage having played some really good football but we have to blame ourselves for that if we do get knocked out. It's a shame because there are some average sides who benefitted because of easy draw. This is why I was against a tough draw when people wanted one. At the end people remember the result and Ole needed some luck like Lampard with the draw. Proceed to knock outs having played sevilla krasnodar and rennes. I would have taken that.

Qualification is in our hands but not winning the group is I am afraid due to the H2H

Before round 1 how many points was really expected to be taken off the champions league finalists PSG and champions league semi finalists Leipzig in this group?

So far 6 from 9 is a more than decent return and 7 points from 12 will mean a place in the knock out stages.

Without stating the obvious the defeat in Istanbul will prove most costly if United lose next Tuesday Germany.

I’ve never predcited in any of the Ole sack watch threads , but I would finally deduce that Ole would get the sack if we don’t qualify to the knockout stages.

Pretty certain he would stay in charge whatever happens next week. That result in Istanbul makes me angry because our arrogance cost us big time there

Don't know why but I suddenly feel very confident about the RB game. :D It feels we will win there.

Away game, huge pressure on the team/manager to win after a bad result or criticism will be off the roof, fear of Europa League Football etc we usually do well when the stakes are this high based off the countless surprise results we`ve pulled off since Leicester on the final day of last season so reckon we get a result next week especially with Axel back and Upamecano suspended plus Leipzig haven`t been impressive in the CL this season

Come on you melts, we played OK yesterday, yes the decision not to sub-off Fred was bad but we still have it all in our hands. We'll get a point in Leipzig I'm sure of that.

And what makes some of you think the win is guaranteed? We play Leipzig over in Germany. Ok no crowds but still a travel away game. And they are on a good run of form in the Bundesliga.

We don't need to win right? I believe a draw will do?

I don't think its easy to predict this. We tend to play against teams that look to dominate as Leipzeg definitely will do, and have much better players than they do, so usually you'd expect us to win or draw, but United post SAF tend to be poorly managed so anything goes, really. But it has to be said that we tend to pull a result out of the bag when we look like fecking things up.

No EL please, my Thursday nights are busy these days and it'll be impossible to watch games
Seriously, rather get a tough knockout round draw. The EL is just a wank competition for big clubs as arrogant as that sounds.

I meant win by winning or drawing. But some are confident we will win by outright winning. Look at their form in the Bundesliga.

Brøndby rather than PSV. And we beat them 5-0 and 2-6. Thus, we could afford to draw the rest of the games against Bayern and Barca and still go through with 10 points. Beating the minnows twice is imperative in any group, let alone tough ones like ours.

Is anyone else also supremely annoyed that we almost certainly won't finish top now?
Annoyed? that’s putting it mildly given the start we had ....but then again not totally surprised.

Let’s just get a result against Leipzig
