Who decided we sign a rightback that cant cross or control a football? Who decided to spend a record sum on an average CB?

And it's not about winning trophies but our squad underperforms under Ole. Badly. We are conceding the softes goals I can remember. In very important games. He needs to go. He doesnt take us anywhere.
I also can't understand what made us shell out the cash for this guy ... A right back who's best quality is tackling a player after he has gifted him the ball and looking like bambi on ice in the process? I do not know why but all my anger and frustration is focused in AWB at this point (blocking out Pogba's antics for now). He has 9 assists in the PL, but we need marauding full backs that pin back the opposition. What he does is having the same clueless, cowardly look on his face as soon as he receives a pass ...

And this tucking in of full backs ... Don't we have centre backs?

In a way, I feel for him. I work in a bank and if tomorrow I was thrown in the CEO's role, I would be out of my depth and look like a fool.
I really don't think the situation deserves any sympathy. He's given his best effort at managing one of the greatest clubs in the world and he's come up short. There's no shame in it, more qualified managers have similarly struggled and he's probably brought the best football to United post SAF. He's definitely outperformed many of our expectations, got us back in the CL (when another year outside it would have impacted our Adidas deal) and brought in Bruno. But its clear he has a ceiling thats well below what we expect of a United manager.

To be making that team selection 2 years into the job is inexcusable though and for the good of the club we need to be working on a replacement.

Agree with Rangnick. Dont agree with the manager. Put Nagelsmann or Rose alongside Rangnick.
I believe thats how things would pan out eventually. However Rome wasn't built in 1 day either. Nagelsmann/Rose won't move half way through the season either

It's obvious that Scholes and Rio were trying to tiptoe around the subject. They know full well that we never know how we'll play is because of Ole. He is the one setting the team up and is ultimately responsible.

No other coach gets such leeway as Ole. Things that are within a managers remit ie style of play, approach to games etc, instead being blamed on something or somebody else. Jose, LVG and Moyes weren't judged by these standards and many would argue we gave them too long. We're in denial as a club and are just dancing around the fact that we have to change our manager again.

It's time for him to go.

The team has not learned it's lessons from the last few weeks about starting slowly. At some point, we were always going to come up against someone that gave us to much to do - it just so happened to be in our biggest game of the season.

The way he set the team up yesterday was an embarrassment. He claims we're going for the win, then puts out a line-up that includes Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, AWB, Telles, Mctominay and Matic. Including the goalkeeper, that's eight players who are not going to have any significant impact on the game going forward. Cowardly. Any decent manager worth their salt would have seen enough after 12 minutes, and if not make a sub, at least change the shape. He is so slow to change things and some of his decisions in a game boggle the mind.

Why is that when we win its down to individual players and when we lose its down to Ole?

Did Ole instruct Wan Bissaka to leave his man open in our box after 90 seconds? I'm pretty sure he didn't.

Did he tell the entire back 5 to not pick up their men for the second goal? We had good numbers back.

Did he tell Maguire and DDG to make a total mess of the 3rd?

Ole obviously takes some of the blame as manager but these players are simply not good enough. Poch or Allegri aren't going to make that back 5 PL title or CL winners. They aren't good enough.

Ole will no doubt go before the start of next season but nothing will change at this club. We won't get a DOF and even if we do they will pick the wrong one and a yes man to appease the fans. We are being ran by idiots.
Funny you say that when two of the three players you mentioned were his signings, and the other player got a massive new contract under his tenure.

That's United in a nutshell. Woodward, Judge, Ole, Mckenna, Dempsey and Carrick are so out of depth. We are being managed by amateurs who then hire other amateurs to avoid being singled out

That's now 6 defeats already this season.

Brighton should have been a loss as well, and West Ham should have put themselves out of sight like Leipzig did.

So it could easily have been 7-8 defeats had things not gone our way at times.

No excuse now. The players have had a run of games to build fitness. We are too inconsistent. The players are trying for Ole, which makes things worse. That means this is their level under him. Effort alone can get you some results, but won't take you the highest level.

Tactically, we are very basic. We need a better coach and staff.

There are other issues that need to addressed as well:
  • De Gea needs to be sold. His salary is too high for the player he now is
  • Pogba needs to sold as well for the benefit of everyone
Freeing up their salaries will allow us to get a Sancho or Haaland.

I don’t think the tactics or team selection were the main problem last night. The players just started a bit slowly and got sucker punched. It was actually a pretty flexible line up with the option to push Telles right forward and switch to a back 4. But it didn’t pan out.

We have to judge Ole over the season. That means looking dispassionately at how we’ve done in each competition in context. We were not favourites to get out of this group before it started, after the first two games we should have won the group but 3rd is what most predicted. We shouldn’t settle for that. But if we improve on last year in the Prem then we’re still progressing.

We look a shambles at the back just now but we previously had a great defensive record so I think we can rectify the issues as the season goes on.

Gutted right now but still enjoying our football more than at any time since SAF. Still think we’re going to click soon.

I'd give the interim job to Rangnick and move him to the DOF position afterward. Throw all we have at Nagelsmann or Rose in the summer.

My biggest problem with our ex-players is they don't try and take the perspective route, instead they try to deflect blame unto others. Meaning they are okay with scapegoating till it's their pal being scapegoated

"after starting with a back five and two defensive midfielders in Leipzig to preserve Manchester United’s ‘DNA" Couldn't ignore this . In regards to Scholes comments, the reason we are so inconsistent is because we don't have an identity and the reason we don't have an identity is because of Ole

We lost 6 games already this season and many of them were pretty easy games on paper. Could have been more as well.

We shouldn't be a top 4 chasing team after all the money we spent.

You're giving two ends of the spectrum when we should be somewhere in the middle. We shouldn't be chasing top 4, we should be in top 4. We spend most of the time looking up at top 4 from below. That's not what this team is capable of

This is the stat equivalent of putting a bow on a turd. You'd think on that form we should be doing better in competitions. Instead in the same time frame we lost two semifinals in minor cups, are scraping for top 4 and just got dumped out of the CL group stage, the lowest possible outcome in the competition.

It’s just fecking mental.

We have Bruno this season and we’re currently 6th, what the feck does last season have to do with anything?

Liverpool had miles more points than us last season, and more points than us this season despite suffering some big injuries, but seasons don’t matter, it’s the good purple patches that matter these days.

Dont really know where to put this and don't want to start a new thread, but our defense is so bad I'd consider playing 4 3 3 with pogba dvb and Bruno as my midfield 3 and try to win a few shoots outs after this city game.

Tottenham have more points than us since Mourinho started his first full season.

Chelsea have more pts than us since Werner signed.

Can we stop this tiring nonsense?
It's a whole calendar year almost and we've got 51pts and Liverpool have 50 and City have 47 or 48. Can't remember which.

We are 5pts behind Spurs with a game in hand. Hardly out of it are we?

I back Ole, but the tactics and selection was most definitely a problem last night. 3 at the back has worked fine before, but what the feck our wingbacks were doing being so narrow is an absolute mystery. A wingback should get chalk on his boots all game, but the way we lined up we might as well have started with 9 men

Also, starting Matic and McTomminay together in CM is begging for trouble. One is slower than molasses and the other one is a headless chicken most of the time. Have those two even started together this season? Trying it out in such an important game was beyond daft. Of course our choices were limited with Fred being banned and Pogba being an arse, but lining up in a more familiar formation and throwing in VdB and/or Mata there would have been much better.

We have a couple of entitled children on here who could not even praise Ole if he cured cancer and brought world peace, but fair should be fair. Last night was a big game and he completely made a mess of it.

Ole had the 3rd highest win ratio of any Utd manager ever.

He's just won 9 straight away games in PL. A club record.

He came 3rd in his only fully season to date and we are currently 5pts off the top with a game in hand.

You lot are the nutters. Entitled brats who expect Fergie results from a team that isn't as good. We aren't the best in the world anymore.

Care to name all the negative records he has broken whilst we are at it?

What he has won so far, sinking in 300m?

When was the last time a manager finished 2 seasons in a row without winning anything for us?

People defending Ole holding on to the away win record in the league, the since Bruno arguments. The divide in the fan base is real now. Ole is out of his depth and everyone wanting this continue, are in pure denial and delusional. We should have pulled the plug at the last international break. Everyone should be on the same page now, pressure needs to be put on the fools at the top. This comes from the fans, too many in the media are prolonging the inevitable. Even in here top reds are at it. It's not being loyal, it's stopping the long term progress and success of Manchester United.

It easy for me I guess to watch from the other side of world here in OZ but I'm just not sure punting OGS is the answer.

There are so many issues around the playing group which were clearly shown up in the CL loss.

At the end of the day, whatever spin you want to put out our squad is just not good enough.

Blame OGS, his support coaching staff by all means but the players have to take responsibility as well.

It's really depressing that after spending 80 mil on Maguire we still need another CB. Feels like we will be rebuilding untill the end of time.

I have been firmly in the Ole in camp.... But last night i realised i was buying into the romance of him being a success.....
The Fred situation against PSG and the, frankly bizarre line up and use of subs last night has taken away all the hope i had of him doing the business for us over time.

some questions i cant quite get my head around stemming from last night?

Why did we use 3 left backs in one game?

Why was the best left back of the 3 sacrificed after 45 mins? whilst our injury prone, cannot attack and cannot defend, Mr slow down play, left back Shaw given 70 mins or so.

Why are we asking AWB to be a RWB? Man cant attack to save his mum.

On the subject of AWB. It was obvious RB noticed in the first 5 mins how narrow he defends. They exploited that for their 1st goal, after 5 mins it happened again. Did Ole just ignore this blatant tactic? Why was AWB not instructed to defend wider? It cost us another goal on 12 mins that could have easily been avoided.

Why are we persevering with DDG? as good a shot stopper his is, the 3rd goal last night highlights that he is to much of a pussy to be great goalie.

What was the point in swapping Lindelof with Axel when chasing the game? Hell, if Ole thinks Axel is the better player (which he quite frankly is) then why not just start him?

Every man and his dog know how well drilled RB are on the press, so why select 2 of the most useless midfielders against a press we have in Matic and McT? All the while, keeping our best 2 touch player at the club on the bench in DVB.

Why was Pogba even selected on the bench after his agents recent antics? Last night was time to leave him out completely and move on from this chump. Mans a buster.

Ive always been behind him. Hes changed the club for the better more than anyone else since SAF.

But I have to admit recently Ive had my doubts creeping in.

Some of the sub decisions have been questionable. Constantly sticking with badly out of form players. Not subbing fred when everyone and their dog could see what was coming. Leaving changes too late in general. etc etc etc

But the one thing that is really starting to rag me is the setting the team up simply not to lose. Its happening far far too much where we invite teams onto us and are constantly making errors, then have to pull back a few goals in the second half. We cannot pull this off every time, as we have seen in recent games. Eventually they will get a battering or two. As shown with a change of shape and tactics in second half, if we had of went out like this from the start, we would prob have went through

A lot of articles about a looming sack now.

Rightly so in my opinion. 2 years and heavy spending and we look worse than when he came in. It was an experiment and it failed - time to find a coach with successful PL experience and who has built at least one PL team who play a good brand of football.

This team will transform without any signing after a few weeks of good coaching - there are too many good players for it not too.
Totally agree and I think we would see a huge difference almost straight away with Poch in charge. I know he's not everyone's favourite just because he hasn't won trophies (ridiculous nonsense) but he is so obviously a good coach who can get his teams drilled well. Watching All or Nothing Tottenham, those players seemed genuinely upset he'd gone which says a lot.

Ole had the 3rd highest win ratio of any Utd manager ever.
And yet his predecessor had a better win rate, and trophies.

But Ole has the third best "ever", well that must make him better than Sir Matt.

How much money has Ole spent compared to all of our other managers through history? United post-Fergie are incomparable to the club he joined, hence why win-rate vs. Sir Matt becomes a ridiculous point.
After Fergie we were on a different planet with regards to what we could do in the transfer market and our stature in the game. So the only important comparison with win rate is with the post SAF managers, of which Ole sits 2nd from 4, all the other 3 including the guy ahead of him were deemed failures, so it means very little.

feck me LVG did a bad job

ManagerSpend /seasonWin-rateTrophies
Jose€155.36m58.332
Ole€155.14m55.560
Moyes€77m52.940

Just because he has the 3rd highest win rate as a manager doesn't mean your a success ?? Does it??
Does he get a blue peter badge for winning 9 on the bounce??

You sir are the nutter if you think Ole has what it takes to turn our club around. He's had two years now. Had over 100 matches, spent millions and nothing to show for it. You need to forget what he's done on the pitch and think more about what he's doing off it. He's inept and if you can't see his tactics and along with the inconsistency with results then you clearly don't know your football.

I just think the idea that “look, the 3rd best squad in the league came 3rd last year, that’s great management” is beyond bizarre.
The idea that a manager winning some games with some top players is proof that he’s a good manager, utterly nuts.
As I say, top players can win a manager like Di Matteo a CL. No-one here who defends Ole week in week out is gonna say:

“Chelsea won that Champions League because of Di Matteo, but unfortunately the players let him down and got him sacked the following season”.

The posters know full well that winning some games with good players isn’t proof that the manager is anything special.

Looking at our season and performances, I’m starting to think it’ll show more and more this season and that we’ll finish 5th or 6th :(
The thing is Chelsea won the top prize with an old novice player at the helm. Were gonna win feck all under our old novice player.
