Has he always been this good and I’ve just underrated him?
World class goal tonight plus his movement and commitment are superb. We should have signed him 5 years ago.......
Really enjoying his performances! Keep it up Edinson.
Yes been world class since Napoli.

One of the issues I think is that 5 years ago, there were a lot more good strikers than there is today.

his work rate is the most impressive part of his play. Would have been easy to come for one last contract - but he’s really giving it everything.

Perhaps my Sanchez scars are still raw but I was fecking dreading this signing.
However.
Cavani is fecking mustard.
Touch, awareness, work rate, all top class. Cannot fault him thus far.

he looks really fit which is the biggest surprise for me, at his age coming to the PL I was worried he'd struggle

absolute quality finish that, loved the celebration as well

I’ve still got the Sanchez scars as well. I thought he would be a good signing, but clearly it could have gone either way. Hopefully what we have learned is not to sign up the older guys on a 3-4 year massive contract. If Cavani was a flop, we could cut him loose after one season. Much less risk.

hopefully we are starting to look at the character and drive of the player as well. Cavani looks to have the right mental attributes that we need, unlike the likes of Sanchez, Schweinsteiger, Di Maria and Lukaku.

Should have spent his prime years with us than fighting with Neymar and Alves at PSG.

This player has no resemblance to Zlatan at all. He doesn't like and he doesn't seek the spotlight. For me, he's the ultimate team player/striker. He has world class movement, attitude, workrate, ball protection, leadership, good heading. He can score difficult chances, miss easy ones (sometimes just because he has spend a lot of energy) but stll he never cheats/hides on a pitch and will give all he has. What a shame he was wasted on the wing for years at PSG to accomodate Zlatan. Never moaned. He loves deliver on the pitch not in the press, social media, radio stations, tv channels etc.
Unlike most players, he has a "normal" life, likes the simple things and seems to have real values. He doesn't seem to have been troubled by fame and money ... he looks a lot more like us than some young "stars". He is an admirable person and a great player to have.
I noticed Greenwood attempted a Cavanniesque diving head today.

Of course he has been. The main problem was we used to watch PSG only in CL and their entire team were bottling it consistently there so we always got the impression he's not that good.

He's been better than this for the better part of the past decade.

Yeah I am surprised how hard he works when it comes to pressing.
As I said all along, anyone painting him as a mercenary looking to sit back and collect his last paychecks clearly didn't know much at all about him.

He was even better than he is now. The issue is the only time people ever watched him was PSG in the CL, where as a whole the team never delivered, so this assumption that he wasn't actually this good came about, despite the fact that even in those matches, his movement was superb. I genuinely think of all the strikers in the last decade he has the best movement. His best attribute IMO.

Such a shame he hasn't had the chance to play for us in front of a packed Old Trafford crowd. Fans would bloody love him.

Somehow he's always there on the end of chances, a magnet for the ball in the box. And what a winner as well. Brilliant. Hopefully he doesn't get any sort of suspension for the dumb instagram shit, as I really want to see more of Rashford and Martial playing off of Cavani through the middle more often.

This is pretty much exactly what I expected from him. I actually thought he was fairly sloppy whenever he got on the ball but his work rate, movement and overall intelligence created a pretty good performance and an excellent goal. Definitely not first choice but much better than Ighalo.

I wanted us to sign him when he was pushed out to the LW by Ibrahimovic and unsettled. Instead we signed Falcao, and a year later a 19 year old French lad (not criticising Martial to be clear). Cavani has always been made for us and there have actually been a lot of opportunities to get him.

I am really impressed with his game and the hard work he puts in for the team. Nearly a game changer in most of the games we struggle to find the net and in some way he helps us with a goal or assist. Won us the game against Southampton after coming as a sub with 2 goals and an assist. Nearly got us through the knockout stages of CL had the lofted attempt over the head of Navas went in against PSG.

Proves what a quality striker can bring in to the team. Wish we had signed him once RVP left us. We need a similar kind of striker once he leaves us and it will be difficult to find one in the same mould of his.

Falcao was fantastic before his injury as well. Also a proper fighter like Cavani.

And obviously, Martial will finish in our all time top 10 scorers.

Good take, I was the exact same. I think we tend to overrate the PL, it's not as strong as it was 10-15 years ago. I mean, we came 3rd last year. Still great entertainment.

Tevez's workrate + Berba's technique + Zalatan's physique = Cavani

Legendary footballer.

Great player. Class signing. The meltdown here when he was signed was hilarious.

He brought back "sex masochism" from the LVG era with his strange chokeslam on Mina and missed a few good chances in the opening half hour.

But fair play to the man, he came up with an absolute rocket when it counted. I think he's already equalled Falcao's goal count for us, and will probably surpass it by far in the months to come. Great signing!
