I dont really get the point of the fine? They just want some cash for their own pockets.

Guess it was always coming. FA loves us and loves to make an example out of us all the time.
Silva racially mocks his own team mate and gets 1 game ban. Hilarious

Really confusing ruling offered with no proper explanation?

Leaves half the football world actually thinking he's done a Suarez and i dont really blame them such is the lack of decent reporting

Despite it being silly given the context, I find it odd that the term is just accepted as being accepted there, to be honest. Just because it's the done thing there doesn't mean it's A ok does it?
Yeah, I'm not really keen on the idea that it's fine to use whatever terms are culturally normal where we're from. I'd get a lot more than a three match ban if I was to call the cornershop what people I grew up around commonly called it. They'd tell you they mean it affectionately too.

I guess it's kinda consistent in their approach. I'm not all that fussed.... soon, they won't be allowed to voice opinions at all, we want the players to be more social with us, but then, not really. They'll start going back into their shells and having the PR teams do their socials massively again as the FA will have to stick to this approach after Silva and now this.

Given the context of the post, I would have said that a 1 game ban would have been sufficient. There was no malicious intent and on top of that the player has withdrawn the comment as soon as he realised its issue. It’s a shame that the FA were unable to see the incident for what it was.

I know plenty of people whom had to wrap their head around certain phrases Brits would use. Not necessarily something bad but that's the way languages work. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense for us. I know two languages and I couldn't translate everything into Russian and vice versa.

Reminds me of reading an Onion article.

The irony of banning someone for speaking their own language in the interest of inclusion and to not discriminate against ethnic origins is genuinely beautiful.

Thank feck for the English FA. The world would be a morale shit show if it wasn't for them.

The rules changed this season so it was always going to be at least 3 games if he was found guilty. Madness giving how much more offensive Silva's post was.
Not to mention fecking Alli...

And both Alli and Silva could've been punished harder, but they chose not to.

Exactly, it's just bizarre.

Dig up stupid!
I think it's harsh but I'm glad to see neither the player or club will be appealing or fighting it.
I think the wider issue is more important than the personal punishment

I'm sure the subtleties regarding language use in certain cultures are real however that doesn't mean they aren't problematic and don't need to change

The fine is huge though and I hope the money will be going to anti racism organisations in football and not just lining the FAs pockets

I did think they would hit him with a 6 game ban minimum so in that case for me its lighter than expected. £100k is like you and me forking out a tenner with the money these players have.

As latin american, i feel abused by this decision. FA is discriminating our language and the way that we use it.

Just close your eyes, forget your name
There was a Zoom call between Mata and Herrera before the PSG game, shown after Cavani's charge, right at the beginning of which Herrera said, 'Hola Juanito'. It's beed said to death, but the ito suffix is a term of endearment and the fact that the FA feel they can police the use of another language, just because the person using it is employed in the UK is a FArce.

That said, the games missed are pretty inconsequential and he can afford the fine. Unfortunately, regardless of any clarification the FA may make as to whether they believe what he said was said in a racist way (we've requested that they do so), I expect there'll be swathes of the media ignoring that and tarnishing the bloke with a racist brush going forwards for a while.

£100k fine is absolutely laughable and seems to have been decided based on Cavani's profile. If a 25 year old Brighton squad player had done this, the fine would have a couple less zeroes.

Actions like this belittles the actual serious social issue. It is what it is [sigh]. Accept and move on.

Imagine if they could use that money to help underprivileged black kids or something, that might take the sting out of what is an utterly daft decision.

Yeah you may well be right. I just think with it being close to a direct translation there are questions that can be asked of a potential issue there. I did see a post earlier in the thread from a Latin American that aired similar views. Happy to be wrong though. Could definitely just be a poor understanding from myself.

Disappointing to see him banned considering the pretty obvious situation surrounding his post. However I am unsurprised at the outcome. I don't think they would have risked letting him off with a slap on the wrist and some "education" in case it set a dangerous precedent.

Was really expecting them to wait till after the villa game to ban him tbh.
I was too, he had up until the 4th to respond so I was expecting him to play against Villa and then miss City, Watford and Liverpool

I wonder if they knew the Burnley game was going to be played before the Liverpool game when they accepted the charge? As he could have played tomorrow and now still be available for Liverpool

Ah well it is what it is
