As Rugby refuses to take the knee, is it time the Premier League stopped too?

Ha, had this one a few times. Its one of those things for me personally where there's a way to do it... Like they can say "I mean where does your family originate" or "what's your heritage" and that's cool... But when it's "No, where are you really from" not that it upsets /offends me... it just comes across as a bit ignorant.

Anyway jokes on them when I say South Africa and they just get even more confused.
Watched this with my team at work. A decent take on the issue. These days where is anyone really from?

If I was about to write something I knew people would castigate me for, I might first wonder if what I was about to write was really stupid.
If i was to reply, i would first ask myself whether the individual posting knew something..

Is this trolling ?
no.

Actually, i am very serious..

Yea mate nothing p*sees me off more than when Breast Cancer UK come round looking for a handout; what about the prostates!!!

Tell you what we should just centralise the whole thing; Every Cause UK - covers the lot.

Now I come to think of it, Rashford can feck off too, only feeding school kids; what about adult hunger - disgusting eh.

Don’t even get me started on KickItOut, what about KickItIn. . .

There is a difference between BC UK, prostrates and rashfords approach and Kickitout. Kickitout takes an holistic approach yet isn't holistic.

There are many people who think that it's a good point. Whenever someone point the finger at an issue there is a minority of "But what do you have to say about X?" kind of people.
Yes and no; there are many people who see that it's not about what about meism, it's about a world that excludes based on normalism. It isn't finger pointing, it's saying viewpoints are narrow and in some cases perhaps biased/ agency. If anyone is saying I'm unreasonable, i say go talk to the hearing, sight, neurodiverse etc and then talk.

Yeah, idiots they’re called. But I’ve never seen it put the way he put it.
Idiots?

Go tell someone sight impaired they shouldnt feel engaged in football, go tell someone hearing impaired and only know British sign language to read captions. I go further, the law has changed in the UK, public institutions are required to be inclusive in their communications. That means every format that is produced needs to be developed in an inclusive format. Do you think that is coming to the populous?

I have no posts left today i will not reply.

So that's a direct response from bending the knee or from the Premier League putting pressure on Social media accounts due to the recent racism against the players via twitter? We both know which answer it is.
Are you seriously pretending they’re not all interlinked ?
you’ve literally just said the Premier League were putting pressure on Instagram. The same Premier League trying to raise awareness of racism at the start of every premier league game.

Out of interest , what are the exact things that need to happen for you to be satisfied the bending of the knee isn’t pointless? For a racist to come on national tv and say “I’m not gonna be racist anymore cos I saw footballers bend the knee”.

I'm sure it is interlinked but if people weren't bending the knee anymore in the PL for the last few months I still think the exact same thing would have happened and Social Media companies would have finally caved in.

Action and accountability need to be taken not some random knee bending to put on a show for the rest of the world. The knee has been done for about 10 months now and only now they are taken some kind of action? It's pathetic that it's taken this long for something to be done and it's only been done because of being forced to after recent events.

My only argument would be, what is actually achieved by them kneeling every match recently anyway? Like what does it actually achieve, oh they kneeled, racism is defeated now. If anything it seems to have emboldened the racists and i'm hearing far more about racist abuse online to footballers since this kneeling started, it's been rife recently.
By Jove! I think he’s got it!

So then maybe focus your frustration on those not changing their ways and not doing enough as opposed to the actual footballers ‘kneeling down for two seconds at the start of a football match essentially saying “hey don’t be racist” ‘.
Remember the footballers want to do this, nobody is forcing them.

At the weekend the Irish and Scottish Rugby teams refused to take the Knee for BLM.

Surely this cringe show should now end and the silliness of millionaire footballers taking the knee before an empty stadium every week should stop.

Whilst I have sympathies with the problems in the United States I fail to see how millionaire footballers bending the knee each week does anything to help those in the States and certainly is something we have to worry about in the UK.

No matter what your view, BLM is a political Movement, I much prefer we aim to make all lives better no matter, and one thing that Rashford has highlighted in the UK is the divide between the haves and have nots regardless of colour.

I honestly believe this Premier League Wokeness needs to stop, and I fully support the Rugby Teams in taking a stand on this.

Wow. Do footballers bending the knee for about 5 seconds before the start of a match, to raise awareness of an important issue, really upset some people so much?

Honestly it’s mad..
It got me thinking about things that make me more upset or are more a waste of time during a match, than footballers taking a knee for five seconds.

- players lining up in front of the PL display
- Mike Deans face
- Michael Oliver blowing his whistle 300 times during a game
- Jermaine Jenas talking
- Fred lining up to take a shot
- VAR taking 25 mins to draw out crooked offside lines
- half time break
- Richarlison going down injured
- Harry Kane doing his hair
- Watching Timo Werner go through one on one for a shot on goal

So in this case you are suggesting that a movement against racism is narrow and biased? First who is being prejudiced by that movement and secondly why do you want a movement against racism to be wider than racism, do you think that you will achieve anything by casting a single wide net instead of having a multitude of movements led by people that have an actual understanding of the issues they are talking about?

Do I? By saying that people kneeling, is seemingly making more people say racist things. So their plan is to get people to say racist things?

These racist abuse were there before the kneeling, the difference is that it wasn't highlighted as much as it is today.

Maybe you’re hearing about it more because people are highlighting and bringing attention to it more?

Is Racism such a problem in the UK though?

I for one think we have many more problems than Racism, in fact, Id likes to believe racism is something of the past
. Sure, I imagine there are still issues surrounding racism but how relevant are they to most peoples lives. I believe there are more divides than colour and Rashford for instance is highlighting that himself.

Black Lives Matter is a Political Movement, Political Movements have no place in Sport.

I grew up as a child on the 80s, I remember the Brixton Riots etc, I would like to think the UK has moved on and grown up since those days. Today we have so many laws enforcing equality that I don't think Racism is in any way the issue it once was in the UK.

If anything I think this "Wokeness" and I will use the term Woke, does more harm than good and highlights a problem that really isn't there anymore from a UK perspective.
Wow ... Regardless of what you'd like to believe, it's still a very real issue for a lot of us. What an ignorant thing to say

What does bending the knee actually achieve? It doesn't raise anymore awareness and nothing has been done since.

It's time action is taken rather than some stupid political movement to pretend like people care but if people cared something would have been done by now.
You've come to a thread that is obvious proof that bending the knee is creating dialog and therefore awareness to say that bending the knee doesn't raise awareness anymore.

The knee has been done for about 10 months now and only now they are taken some kind of action? It's pathetic that it's taken this long for something to be done and it's only been done because of being forced to after recent events.
Then you complain that nothing has been done, and when you get an example of something that's being done you then move the goal post and say it's taken too long. Is fighting racism only worth doing if it makes huge progress in a very short amount of time?

Can you please explain your issue with this show of respect/solidarity?
I didn't say I had an issue with it, what I said is what is it accomplishing, there are far bigger/better things that can be accomplished by people in their position to help in the fight against racism and social inequalities, all the kneeling seems to be doing is making people say more racist things publically, not wanting to make them stop, all I hear instead is crap about BLM and Marxism, which as we all know is rather dumb, but i just don't see the kneeling by footballers at the beginning of their matches doing literally anything other than emboldening racists and their rhetoric, we can say well it's raising awareness, but then I feel like we're all having this same conversation every so often regardless of kneeling, bigger action has to be taken than that rather stuff consistently happening, then kneeling and posts on Instagram, then rinse and repeat

So we should back down and let the racists/fascists win? There's nothing more visible right now than Marcus Rashford taking a knee for a worthwhile cause. These athletes can literally do nothing else other than take a public stand. They dont own social media companies or television companies. Other than giving up their own social media and again giving into the scum of the earth theres nothing else they can do other than make a widely seen visible protest.

I don't follow rugby so its hard for me to know what they stand to lose from this. PL and Soccer is big, large organizations like that cannot generally afford to be seen to be going 'against' the popular public opinion. I doubt they will abandon it anytime soon.

I really cannot understand why people have an issue with a 5 second kneel before the game for a worthwhile cause. Anyone who genuinely
has an issue with it really needs to look at themselves and what they stand for.
A wise man once said "the black reaction [to racism] is on trial". People are more concerned with policing the reaction to racism than the racism itself. People I knew personally who I had never ever heard utter a word about racism were suddenly very vocal about the protests last summer and the knee taking.

The optional approach taken in the England-Scotland game was pretty useful in making it very easy to determine who are the absolute cnuts.

Totally agree. It is simply embarrassing now. The players and referee but no managers.

For me, continuing this actually dilutes the original message and potentially has negative effect.
Football should not be used as a vehicle for a global social issue.

It is now an issue in itself. How long does (only football) continue this. Forever?

If people defending their right to basic human decency from other races and athletes TAKING A feckING KNEE was all it took to get these people to make racist remarks then thats on them.

The only possible reason why someone might be upset be seeing people kneel before a game is because they are racist. There is no other possible reason to get upset by this...

I don’t feel negatively about people choosing to take a knee to highlight issues with racism in this country. The relationship with BLM complicates matters because of the organisations “defund the police” stance and such and some folks are not able to detangle that from the message of solidarity the players are attempting to deliver. It muddies and confuses the message.

What I don’t like to see though is an Americanisation of British culture in general and the impact that has on perception of racism in this country, yes we have real problems but let’s not compare our situation to the plight of black people in the US, that would just be silly. It’s sad to see our country blow up every time there is an issue in the US, let’s sort out own house out and deal with actual issues by making data driven changes to our own society.

The recent issues on social media are abhorrent and something needs to be put in place to deter and educate these misguided individuals. It’s a sad state of affairs, to be honest the internet has always been this way but the prevalence of social media platforms has simply held up a mirror to society and it’s a damm ugly reflection at times!

BLM is and always was a decentralized grassroot movement. That an organization called Black Lives Matter Global Foundation Inc exists doesn't change that. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that a bigger share of the angry Internet men have heard of the organization than for the people who were actually out in the streets.

I know you didn't say different, I just wanted to be clear.

That is a free choice. Poppies are for remebrance and a symbol for peace. If this annual tribute was adopted every week before football matches I would feel the same, that the meaning is lost.

The meaning is not lost while people, including our own players, suffer vile abuse about something that is not under their control i.e the pigment of their skin. I think you need to do some introspection mate.
