I am in the same boat. I think we need a world class striker more than sancho.
Whose creating the chances for him? Going to rely on Amad who hasn't even kicked a ball for the first team yet? Greenwood who although showing improvement, certainly isn't at his best out wide?

I am BAFFLED by people still not seeing our desperate need for a RW, hell someone who can cover LW too, Rashford needs competition. Fair enough if you don't like Sancho, but I don't get it.

Harry Kane is a more realistic option for us. Better all around game too. Fergie would want us to get him imo.

Interesting that Bayern haven't been linked with him more tbh, Lewa being 33 this year is there a more perfect replacement out there ? you just know it's the exact type of signing that would happen, Haaland gets linked to all these european clubs and then Bayern swoop in from the shadows and get there man signed in about 10 minutes.

Disgustingly efficient and I am incredibly jealous

if it makes you happy, I can tell you that I’m a 1975 model. I was a striker my entire senior football career myself and have a fascination for good goalscorers. If you don’t understand what I’m referring to when I talk about hunger and energy that’s on you, but I suggest you watch some of his runs to get into good positions in front of goal. Zlatan was a late bloomer when it comes to goalscoring and didn’t start scoring at good rates before he was 28/29, even though he was brilliant on the ball. Neymar was also brilliant on the ball, but was never close to Haalands goalratio, not at Santos, not at Barca, not at PSG, not for Brazil or in the CL. Can he do more stuff with the ball? Yes! Will the ball end up in the back of the net more often with Haaland? Yes! Most complete footballer: Neymar. Best goalscorer: Haaland

I had the same feeling when I watched young R9 at PSV and Barca as I have when I watch Haaland now. You just know he special.

PS! Cudos to you for using the phrase »light years» when comparing the level of talent of 2 world class footballers, in the same post where you question my age. I would love to hear you compare an amateur to a WC player.
Your crazy!!. As a fellow striker the words R9 and Haaland in the same sentence should be blasphemy. You know your football though. But you're wrong and strong with this one mate. You can't hide behind the goalscorer tag either.. In the 90's era being a goalscorer didn't make you special.. you should know that.. he's a good goalscorer like Lukaku was and he's had an impressive start. He's nowhere near the level of strikers you think though. Whether he's here now or gets their later. Sometimes the stars just fall in line nicely for people.. Rashford being a good example of that. His career start was a fairytale. I bet you rate Haaland better than him though.

A fair assessment. But I do think we have a few things going for us:
Ole coached him at Molde. Helped him develop and knows his game. That counts for something. Haaland knows Ole, and that he is capable of winning things.
Also, Ole was a great striker, which Haaland will respect. Ole and the club have clearly shown interest in his development.

He is Norwegian. Man united are huge in Scandinavia. He would see us as the top 5 club in the world that we are. And he has said he wants to play in the premier league.

We have looked promising this year and the end of last season. Bruno is getting all the plaudits for lifting us to 2nd and will probably be in the running for player of the season.

He might relish the challenge of boosting us further like Bruno has, with potential to win the first title in years.

Also, we can pay good wages.
Good points. I think City is our biggest rival to get him, and they hate Raiola even more than us and don’t have a history of paying record fees.

troylocker: Great posts, mate. The fact that people STILL compare Haaland to Lukaku is baffling. They're both big and strong, but the similarities ends there.

mainaldo: do yourself a favor, watch a few dortmund matches.

Better than any of the dribble merchants we have lining up for us, would love to see him here but Bayern just feels like the natural progression for both player and the club come 2022.

I'm sorry to say this, but every club in the world would choose Haaland over Rashford.

I guess time will tell. No shame in disagreeing.
Don’t make me do the numbers for Rashford vs Haaland. You know who comes out on top there as well.
I wish Rashford had Haalands mentality on the pitch (you know the hunger and energy ;)), where he beats himself up for not scoring a fourth of fifth when he’s scored a hattrick.

It will be very interesting to see how things turn out with Marco Rose taking over for Terzic At Dortmund. Rose was Salzburg manager when Haaland came there and didn’t give him many chances the 6 months they worked together. Haaland has said that was the most frustrating period in his short career.

If somehow we signed haaland I think an issue would be that our current winger options are not the most creative of wingers to feed haaland to get the best out of him.

Being honest I think that doesnt hold enough weight, when he was in Leipzig Ole personally went and spoke to him and wasnt even able to convince him to join us before Dortmund. Now after he's done great in Dortmund he can get into pretty much any team in the world. If knowing Ole didnt weight enough then it surely wont right now.

That would make sense if he was a fan of ManUtd or something, the reality is a "rebuild" project is not as attractive as a full flowing team. First because the "rebuild" can take several seasons and after all that theres no warranty that it will work. See Pogba's case, he spent has spent several of his prime years here without glory. He could had easily stay in Juventus collecting Serie A titles or gone to another team.

I mean I would totally go to ManUtd because I love this team, but if I was a player and lets say Milan (who are in a similar situation than us) wanted me and I had the choice of joining Madrid, City, etc I wouldnt even consider them.

How much would Haaland go for if he was sold?
Honestly just throw them the cheque book. If we want to win titles we need the best of the best and he certainly is the best young striker if not the best striker in world football and will be for the next 10 years.

Get him, give him massive wages, make him fire his agent and enjoy him for the rest of his career.

Why I ask is I think United need Sancho this summer, Sancho and Haaland would be big but would it happen?

Even with Pogba and Martial being sold?

United could get Ramos on a free as a stop gap.

Your point about him choosing Dortmund over United I think is false. It was mentioned a lot at the time that Haaland had strong offers from Dortmund, Leipzig, Juve and United and that he chose Dortmund because he felt it was a necessary step in his development. I actually think that it was an extremely astute move from Haaland because he moved to a team that perfectly fit his profile in that moment. Dortmund at that time were creating heaps of chances but had nobody apart from and injury prone Paco Alcacer to put them away. They also provided an environment in which he would be guaranteed first choice CF playing in a team where there isnt the same scrutiny on winning every week as there is at United/Bayern/Juve. Haaland seems to have a good group of people around him who I think persuaded him to stick it out at Dortmund for a few years to bolster his already impressive reputation in an environment that would certainly work for him. You can see that they saw this as a stepping stone before moving to a huge club by the contract length he took there and the buy out clause they forced into his contract.

Haaland will certainly move this summer or next to a big big club if his form continues as is. I really hope united go for him because I think he would perfectly fit a team built to counter attack. Bruno would provide suitable amounts of chances for him. The only downside to bringing in Haaland for me would be the adverse affect it might have on Greenwood. I am baffled as to why he keeps getting payed on the right when there are countless opportunites to play him centrally when Cavani is being rested (Martial on current form should be 2nd fiddle to Rashford for the LW spot).

Theres an argument that we need a top centre forward at least as much as any other position right now. Cavani's cameos have shown a lot of what we've been missing. However i honestly dont think Haaland will want to come here whereas Sancho would happily come.

Recent comments on not choosing a club just because the manager likes you rather than the whole club were a reference to us i think. Ole wanted him before he went to dortmund but the club werent willing to meet the fee for a relatively unproven player. The problem nowadays as well of course, is that theres too few top centre forwards being produced so competition is fierce.

Our owners are the Glazers

Our CEO is Ed Woodward

There is no way we are signing either of them. There’s more chance of getting Obertan and Manucho back as first team players with our current setup

We don't beat West Brom on Sunday with Haaland. He'd have simply had a very similar performance to Cavani. We create nothing far too often for people to be saying Haaland would change things around. Don't get me wrong, we do need a striker and I'd love him at the club, but if you're not making chances for someone like Haaland, they're redundant.

It's also a premier league problem, not a United problem. The worse the team is, the more they play like that on Sunday. You end up with stacks of world class players needing something quite fortunate to happen in the 6 yard box. It saps the quality out of the football. It happened to City, Liverpool, us. I don't understand why it doesn't happen more across the European leagues to be honest.

This. Not enough creativity in the side for a quality striker to make a difference.

Yet Canavi missed a clear sitter in the box with an air kick... ok. We need more creativity but Haaland scores that

I see where your coming from however we've scored more goals than any other team in the league, therefore creating chances is clearly not a major issue for us. Finishing has been a major issue, somebody should make a compilation of our missed chances, it would be an hour long.

Sure were going to have games where lower level opposition park the bus and make it difficult. West Brom have done exactly the same to Liverpool and others this season.

More often than not we've broken these teams down and scored goals, created chances to win only to give away shite goals at the other end of the pitch.

IMO Haaland is an absolute must, having the likes of Martial instead of Haaland starting will only make your point an even more difficult issue to deal with.

The fact we've scored the most in the league continues to baffle me, I'm sure that won't be the case in a few weeks, but still, it's impressive when so often we've looked just infuriating in front of goal. Maybe its a mixture of lack of creativity and being wasteful.

In fairness City and Liverpool have regressed in terms of goalscoring (though annoyingly City just decided to be amazing in defence). At this rate (~2 goals per game) we'd have 79 goals by the end of the season, which is pretty good considering how shite Martial has been and that we have nothing on the right. It's still a bit away from the 90+ that City and Liverpool were scoring but a top RW would put us up there I reckon.

The 9-0 win does inflate things a bit too!

He is such a completely different player to Lewandowski that it is hard to imagine Haaland functioning in a Bayern side.

Pretty much. To add to that, world class strikers aren't reliant on others spoon-feeding them service, they create chances for themselves through movement, anticipation, making runs etc.

Just spot the difference between the no. 9s in the following clips. One is on his arse 60m from goal but gets up and less than 10 seconds later he's almost there to score a "tap-in". And then he's cursing as hell that he didn't do more in that situation, even though it would be physically impossible to do anymore than what he actually did. And this is what he does for 90 minutes, always on his toes, waiting to capitalise on any sort of opportunity.

Having already scored twice in that half it would have been very easy for him to stay down and take a breather for a few seconds. But his mind is only fixated on one thing, goals. Any kind of half chance, sniff, rebound, he simply wants to be on the end of it.

The next clip shows a no. 9 with zero awareness or anticipation. He has no clue where he is in relation to the CBs. For about 2 seconds he is ball watching as the passage of play passes him by. And then he's half-heartedly jogging towards goal. No desire to get on the end of a potential shot, rebound, anything.

Just so oblivious to his surroundings.

People love throwing out the "oh we don't create enough" argument, that's completely nonsense. Bruno is one of the top creators in the world. Wan-Bissaka and Shaw have 6(!) assists between them in the last three games, that's probably more than they managed in the previous 1.5 years combined in the league. Why is that? Is it because they've learnt to cross overnight? No. It has coincided with an actual CF starting to get a consistent run of games. CBs know they have to be extra careful against Cavani. Not only is Cavani a threat from crosses but it has a knock on effect because if all eyes are on him then that leaves space for other attackers to score from the crosses.

A static lamp post like Martial would even make prime Beckham's crossing look bad.

Saw an interview with Ibrahima Konate yesterday. He said Lewandowki is the toughest striker he has played against. Obvious answer you'd think but his reasoning was interesting. It wasn't because of any physical attributes but because he's mentally switched on for 90 minutes. Whenever goal clips are posted in match/player threads on this forum people always go "he wouldn't get that kind of service here", "the defending in the PL isn't this bad" etc. They only see the goal clips and not the rest of the 90 minutes where these attackers are constantly tormenting the defenders and forcing lapses in concentration. That shows a real lack of appreciation for top class players.

Yes but we've conceded two more than we did at the same stage last season. While our offense has improved, our defense is no better. Most of the goals we've conceded this season have come down to 3 positions. DDG, and the two CBs. We improve on that triangle defensively and we're very much title contenders. As much as we need a clinical #9, we need at least two defenders even more.

I'd take Haaland but honestly cannot see us doing business with his agent.

Yeah couldn’t agree more.

Those two vids perfectly sum up my point and likewise my frustration with Martial and why I want him moved on.

I think everyone expects at least another 2-3 years at the top level from Lewandowski. He is a physical freak like CR or Ibrahimovic, takes care of his body, is extremely professionel, never injured and also doesn't rely on pace for his game.
So Halaand would simply come to soon. Maybe Halaand's potential successor (Moukoko) will be our next BVB target. ;)

Time will tell if he can be as good as R9 but fair to say that he is a higher calibre to Lukaku even at this early stage of his career.

BTW does it bother anyone that if we sign Haaland, we may be effectively shutting doors on Mason. Not immediate but in the next 2-3 years, Mason will expect to play

Rather have faith in Mason him naturally seems like a better footballer than Haaland.
