Florence is about as good as it gets. You see bona fide models walking around.
It does have its challenges. I literally heard six rounds fired from a handgun the other night & called the cops as it was so close (can’t remember the last time I called the cops). Turns out it was about 200 feet from my bedroom, cops found some casings, but no impact points. They thought that a car may have been hit with all the rounds as it looked like a car spun out, throwing gravel everywhere.
Scary thing is that my bed is on the wall nearest the scene, my house has thin wood exterior with basic Sheetrock inside. The cops said that it could have been very possible for a round to have penetrated inside my place if so aimed. That was sobering.
It really depends on where you live. The neighborhood I live in is pretty safe and quiet. It's close knitted and we hardly have any crime. It's expensive though. Our taxes went up to almost 15K this year. Sadly not everyone can live in nice neighborhoods so they have to live in fear. I travel to NYC everyday and I have to be very aware and on high alert almost every second. I ended up on the wrong train few weeks ago and it went through some rough neighborhoods. I thought I was going to definitely going to die. I get what you're saying and it is a major issue but there are still little pockets of peace if you can afford it. I have heard good things about NI but the rainy weather would be a deal breaker for me. I'm so depressed during the winter. It's as if you know the risk but it's worth it almost. I don't know how to explain it but I know I wouldn't be happy anywhere else.

Savannah, GA, just a tad south of downtown & Forsyth Park. It’s a gentrified area full of SCAD students / yuppies on one side, still rough on the other. I probably hear gunshots two to three times a week at night, this was so close it sounded like I was listening to a gunfight with headphones on. Multiple people called the police as it was in an alley with a lot of bedrooms facing it.

The fear side of it is fecked mate. I mean I grew up with the Troubles and not once have I ever felt scared going up the North, no matter if it was me going up to a known Unionist majority area. In fact I've had many a good night in a pub with people who absolutely hold very different views from me. I'm sure the States in general is a fine place to live and that most people just go about their lives untouched but from the outside looking in you'd swear the place was a war zone for how much fear there is there. The hatred from each side seems crazy,so many people seem to live in a completely unjustified state of fear. I mean they suffered one terrorist attack and that was enough to engage the Patriot Act. America is literally one of the safest places in the World in terms of foreign attack but still they went crazy over one incidence. Its like an entire country of IRA vs UDF with no one even willing to give any credence to the other side's opinions.
The politics there is a bloody sports game. I pick my side and you pick yours and thats that. Which is insane because I see a penalty given for United and I naturally defend it but I see the same given for Liverpool and it was never a penalty. Thats just football but politics is real life.

I agree. They can do so much more to make it better but everyone is only concerned with how they can benefit. If they can't get anything out of it, the problem just get ignored and it's blamed on the high crime rate. Crime is an issue and they have the resources to effectively fight the high crime situation but first someone would have to care. They all talk the talk but nobody walks the walk.
We have a few towns over that's the same. We have the MS13 wreaking havoc in certain parts of Long Island and It's not too far away from me. Some of it trickle into the "nicer" neighborhoods. You might think you're safe but you could just be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Everything is a competition in the US. There are either winners or losers. The entire system is designed to increasingly feck over the poor and the helpless.
I’d say it can be very much a poor timing thing, but it’s also becoming a bit too worryingly familiar, too consistent. I also live very near a police / fire department annex & hear multiple sirens a night / see the lights. That consist rhythm also is disconcerting.
I was on River Street many years ago, hanging with some buddies at Wet Willies. Lots of people outside the two big windows in the bar and suddenly a mass scatter followed by a few sounds of rapid gunfire (although muffled by the music inside). One guy crawled up near the bar window, bleeding, think a ricochet got him in the leg. Saw a couple others also down but didn't appear severe, likely flesh wounds. Not sure what type of gun was used but seemed sporadic, possibly shooting while running, or just a shitty shooter (thankfully). Cops then kicked people away from the crime scene and began looking for casings and placing solo cups over them. No one was permitted on that section of River Street, about two blocks worth, the rest of the night. We had to go a separate way to get to our hotel thereafter.
That's the worst I ever experienced down there, saw a few fights that lasted maybe five, ten seconds. Plenty of drunk SCADs with lose morals though.
MS13 was all over Atlanta a while back, not sure if still up there intimidating everyone.

They keep finding bodies buried in random parks here on Long Island. Most of them are suspected to be some type of initiation killing to get into the gang.

Spooky shit, brings back this memory - I was sitting in a Waffle House 20 years ago (December 2002) around 200A on the coast of Mississippi when a shot was fired from US 90 (the road on the coast) from a car. It was across from the old Treasure Bay Casino, just west of some clubs that were letting out. It struck the plate glass window next to the booth I was sitting (didn’t shatter the glass fully, but webbed it completely), passed no less than two feet from my head, then clattered into the staff area behind the open counter. Everyone hit the deck, cops were called, surreal next three minutes. They found the slug under one of them griddle ovens, no clue how it ended up there without striking one of the servers or line cooks (probably wouldn’t have hurt them too badly, but still). The police were absolutely certain it was a gang initiation rite - take a shot into a crowded public business & earn one’s stripes.
I always thought shit like that was an urban legend. It was in Gulfport to finalize my mother’s estate as she passed the week prior, then I hear & see a gunshot pass within inches of my dome, basically almost in the wrong place at the wrong time. Took me a bit of time to sit next to a window at a restaurant, etc. for a while after this.

My evangelical, conservative family on my mom’s side was pissed that I was a few minutes late to my 800A meeting with my uncle & cousin to discuss my mother’s estate (even in a tipsy state having come from the casino before Waffle House, it still took me a while to get to sleep & to get going in the morning). After the meeting, I said we should go get breakfast at the Waffle House - it was enjoyable seeing their smug faces give way when they saw the window getting plywood over it by the same assistant manager who was there in the restaurant seven hours prior. Receiving handshakes & apologies from my Pat Buchanan-worshipping & campaign-volunteering family was glorious. That second Waffle House trip that day remains as one of the very few times I have ever eaten at a WH sober & in the daytime.

Apparently this Asian Hate has gone crazy recently, to be fair I have seen it a lot in the past of so many years the racism towards Asian but recently is the only time it gets lot of attention in US thanks to Olivia Munn started the campaign to support the Asian.
I just saw her video in Insta few hours ago that an elderly asian woman was on her way to go to Church and being attacked by the black american, the guy kicked her and told her ''f@@@ you, you don't belong here''.
But, that's not the worst part why I posted this. It's what happened afterwards, there were people (security guard) who only watched it, didn't offer any help and closed the door on the helpless victim.

I haven't seen let alone been inside a Shoney's in probably two decades. CB is alright, not a fan these days. WaHo was our go to drunk spot after the bar/club outing, or Denny's if it was nearby.
Now that I'm in Tampa, I'm a big First Watch and Another Broken Egg patron, although these establishments are a class above the others mentioned.
First Watch was quality. I also suggest Edison for brunch.
