They never mentioned 9/11, but the season after that there were lots of NYPD / FDNY messages on things like the chalkboards in the apartments.Just rewatching friends.
Have a fan theory...
Friends is set in alternate universe where the USSR never fell (they refer to Minsk as being in Russia) and because of that the USSR never left Afghanistan which meant 9/11 never happened (they never mention it).

It's a bit overkill, people would watch Friends with just the original cast. Not sure anyone will be tuning in because Becks is starring.Tweet

Of course it couldn't be a show without that windbag involved.Yesssss! James Corden!
He'll probably eat Ross's sandwich.Of course it couldn't be a show without that windbag involved.
The One Where They Murder James Corden, I would tune in for that. He'll probably eat Ross's sandwich.
This would surely break some kind of ratings record. The One Where They Murder James Corden, I would tune in for that.
He does commercials geared to senior citizens here in the States so I am kind of used to his older look.Monica will look old, so comparatively speaking I'd hate to have my memory of Tom Selleck shattered.
"Ruining it" friends, feck offRuining it with all those guest appearances. Lady gaga, feck off
Early friends was lovely. Granted it's not the most grown up show but it wasn't meant to be. As a teenager/early 20s, first 4/6 seasons of friends were hugely iconic."Ruining it" friends, feck off
It's vastly superior to the likes of How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory.Early friends was lovely. Granted it's not the most grown up show but it wasn't meant to be. As a teenager/early 20s, first 4/6 seasons of friends were hugely iconic.
Absolutely, it's just a bigger target for people due to being... biggerIt's vastly superior to the likes of How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory.
His older look ? He looks younger in that advert than he did in friends. He does commercials geared to senior citizens here in the States so I am kind of used to his older look.

Those two are truly awful. Big Bang theory is the biggest pile clichéd nonsense. "Ooh nerds, ooh pretty girls". feck off. HIMYM had the lamest 'story' ever and TVs biggest moron in Ted Mosby.Friends is good but one of the most overrated shows ever.
The likes of HIMYM or BBT are much better IMO.
This is the 90s kids appeasement era after allFeel like there's a Friends reunion atleast twice a year.
They're fantastic. HIMYM is a great story with a terrible ending. Would you like BBT if it wasn't nerds then? Neither are no more clichéd than the will they won't they trope that got dragged out for 10 seasons in friends. Those two are truly awful. Big Bang theory is the biggest pile clichéd nonsense. Then there's that two and half man child which I hated.
Tbh I'm not really a "fan" of sitcoms. But I can see their appeal, they're like fluffy little light hearted meaningless fun. I do think in that context Friends did it much better. More iconic characters, more impactful relationships etc which is why it's 5 times as famous. They're fantastic. HIMYM is a great story with a terrible ending. Maybe you're just not a fan of sitcoms?
Think it's timing. Friends is somewhat of a pioneer of a certain brand of sitcom, but if it started in 2004 instead of ended, I don't think it does nearly aswell as it did, whereas HIMYM and BBT I think would do just aswell in the 90s.Tbh I'm not really a "fan" of sitcoms. Even in that context of not liking sitcoms much, I thought HIMYM and BBT were grossly overrated. If friends had 6 good years I don't think I could deal with more than 2/3 of those 2. Characters for any popcorn flick is everything, which is why Friends became such a big deal.
First mover advantage is a big deal. But I can't see the global population falling in love with Howard, and Mosby they did with the Friends 6. They absolutely nailed it and I don't think you can pick up shows and expect to nail that connect with the audience as they managed to. Friends of mine wanted to be Rachel, Chandler, Joey etc it really was iconic as feck.Think it's timing. My wife prefers Friends to BBT but likes BBT a fair amount. She tried to get me into it and I don’t think any of it amused me.Friends is good but one of the most overrated shows ever.

Well no shit, you could reasonably say this about anything, in any field.... Friends isn't really a pioneer either, not even close. It just well, worked, and exploded. Basically it had more worldwide appeal than Seinfeld. But then Curb and the Office happened in the middle of it... and both got big too(which Larry Sanders didn't), so people realized there was more to TV comedy than a laugh track.Think it's timing. Come on mate. Friends was a cultural phenomenon. The other two were popular shows. Surely this can't be debated?Do you mean Leonard?
And people absolutely did fall in love with the casts of both shows, they wouldn't have last as long as they did if they didn't.
Not that it's be all and end all, more to it, but on twitter, friends has 801k followers, HIMYM has 901k followers and the big bang theory has 4.3million.... clearly people fell in love with these characters.
Id imagine, like many, if you grew up watching friends it's naturally going to be your favourite. My wife prefers Friends to BBT but likes BBT a fair amount. She tried to get me into it and I don’t think any of it amused me.
Not denying it's a culture phenomenon, you were talking about people falling in love with the characters which they clearly did?Come on mate. Friends was a cultural phenomenon. The other two were popular shows. Surely this can't be debated?
Leonard, howard, Raj , you may prefer these characters but they're not in the same category as far as pop culture.
I mean, not to the same extent. There are people who fell in love with charlie Sheen on two and a half halfwitsNot denying it's a culture phenomenon, you were talking about people falling in love with the characters which they clearly did?
