A few good runs, tracked back well a couple of times, and he's passed well - also put a good ball into the box. I like.

Would prefer him over Camavinga. He will be more of a starter and will give Pogba and Bruno more freedom.

A few runs from deep using his balance and acceleration and suddenly people compare him to Davids  never change 'CAF

He's useless if not given space.

Good tournament but I've seen this story all too often from certain players on the international stage.

Seems to have improved quite a bit from his younger self. A lot more rambunctious and marauding. Still needs to improve his self-awareness a bit.

Not for me. I can see the appeal, but I’m tired of all this ‘drive with the ball’ stuff. I know it’s a traditional British cm value, but I’d rather someone who can simply pass the ball from A to B rather than have to carry it from A to B. Give me a Verratti over a Sanches type any day. He’s not a winger, he’s a central midfielder.

He'd be great in a team that likes to play in transition like we do in bigger games.

Imagine having him running out of defense with all that attacking talent in front of him.

However, Don't think he'd improve us much against 75 percent of the league in those games we dominate possession.

I'd definitely be intrigued though.

Not interested, these bulldozing players can always look great at tournaments, but I don't think his technical ability is up to it in tougher leagues/teams where there won't be as much space for him to run into.

He's fecking average at best.
Gives the ball away alot, doest offer himself for a pass, plays it too safe.

We can do a lot lot better.

Yeah I thought he kept wasting the ball? I'm not sure what people liked in his performance, I found him infuriating yesterday.

I thought he made a few good runs and tracked back recovering the ball a couple in times and also made some good passes and there was a decent cross into the box. Clearly he's not as skillful as Davids but he showed some of his traits...and I'm not wholly convinced because it's only one tourno, now if this is his standard then he's got something to work on. I think most folk are suprised because he ended up playing woefully for Swansea. Swansea bloody City!

He's the exact type of player we (Everton) need in midfield. Our players are far too pedestrian in midfield and don't have the legs to run with the ball and drive at defences. He'd excell for us I reckon.

I think Everton would be a good move for him.

Flavour of the tournament. Yeah he can carry the ball a bit and has a decent shot, but apart from that is fairly average at everything else. Judging players on tournament performances is also never a good idea. He would not solve any of our problems.

He is at a good club for his development at this point, making another big move at this point will really be stupid.

It's so weird seeing this thread bumped again, feels like I've gone back in time.

I remember everyone talking about him ages ago, then he went Swansea for a loan and no one wanted him. It was like finding out that the girl you had a crush on worked at a brothel on loan.

But now he seems to be getting attention again.

I didn't follow him post Swansea, did his talent really drop and now he's finding his feet or was it something else?

Wasn't meant to be like that

We saw him go there and they still struggled and got relegated. So people cooled off on him. That's what I meant. I promise!!
Expecting a 19 year old Portuguese kid sent on loan to get game time to save a PL club from relegation would have been the wrong expectation to start with, but that's what you get with the kind of hype he had received after that last Euros.

Also want to point out that Bayern made the deal to buy him before the Euros tournament, the latter just added significant hype and expectation to his signing (on top of his huge fee obviously).

He was utter shit for Swansea - I remember watching his debut and he looked like he’d never kicked a ball before.

He has improved massively since then, not to the point where I think he’s our standard mind.

As the user above you said, 19 year old, new country/league and in a team fighting relegation would be difficult for most players.

Of course it would be difficult. I would expect him to show some ability though. He was dreadful.

Yeah I completely agree with this. The expectations were unfair from the start, and at the time I didn't really see that. On top of the relegation battle, the atmosphere around the club had become pretty toxic, the supporters were pissed at the sale of the club, and the style of football that had been used for the past decade had devolved. The club was regressing on all fronts.

Throw in a youngster who understandably doesn't really want to be there, unfair expectations and a managerial sacking a few months in, I'm not surprised it turned out disastrously.

The brothel is about 40 miles to the East!

The first few games weren't terrible, his passing was always erratic but he showed the ability to take the ball on the turn. It just nosedived quickly, but that season I honestly couldn't say a single player played well outside of Fabianski.
