Leaked by the German press to unsettle a key English player the day before they play each other.

Only joking. He probably won’t even be on the bench.

85 million euro's? Think that's a very fair deal. It is very hard to not get excited as a Mancunian with the squad that we're looking to have at the start of the season. No matter your stance on Ole,
Yup, our signings and squad health have gotten a lot better the past few years. I'm still Ole-in for now but managers can be changed fairly easily while moving players on is extremely hard. Chelsea have done this well forever (without a formal DoF I might add) and we seem to have found a decent formula as well.

Some question marks around our backup #10 (VdB) and backup LB but that's a far cry from Lingard / Pereira at #10 and Ashley Young / Valencia as our starting fullbacks. Let's not even talk about Mkhi, Fellaini etc. Just thinking about the squad under Jose gives me the shudders:

------------------------- DDG --------------------------------
-- Valencia -- Smalling -- Blind -- Darmian --
----------------- Herrera --- Fellaini --------------------
-------- Mata -------- Pogba ------- Rashford ------
----------------------------- Ibra ------------------------------

vs

------------------------ DDG ---------------------------------
--- AwB --- Varane (?) -- Maguire -- Shaw ---
---------------- Pogba --- Fred --------------------------
---- Rashford --- Bruno ------- Sancho ----------
-------------------- Cavani ---------------------------------

Literally should be officially announced any day now. Just the medical to go and he’s officially ours

Do you think we’d have signed Amad too if we got the Sancho deal done last summer?

Can never say for sure, but I doubt we’d have committed to the Amad deal if we got Sancho. When signing two players in the same position who are 18 months apart for money that matters - I don’t think where they are at that present day matters much. The idea is, surely, that you want one to fill a position long term. And common sense says that they can’t both fill it. Sancho being further ahead doesn’t really matter right now. People keep talking about ‘sorted for 10 years’ - and from that perspective, where both players are in their first year or 18 months isn’t that important to me. If ‘right now’ was so important, then I’d go and get a 28 year old.
If Sancho's the left winger you keep saying he is this shouldn't be an issue

It's hardly a fantastic fee if true!

People continually point to the saving on last summer, but this is natural depreciation over the course of a contract for the player and perhaps some element of covid kicking in meaning all clubs have felt the strain. Nothing to do with skilled negotiation or a bargain being had, more a converging of factors - some of which are a function of circumstances.

It just looks like a common sense fee, probably somewhat meeting in the middle of what we wanted to pay this summer and what Dortmund wanted last year. It's okay given the players quality, age and potential but let's not exaggerate how good that price is. He still has to come and perform and then the fee takes on a whole new dimension depending on the outcome.

Be it today, tomorrow or Wednesday
I'd love to see Sancho in a red shirt soon so we can move on to the next target
Greedy feckers Woodward/Glazers will probably want the new kit announced though before announcing Sancho, keeping us all waiting

Didn't like it when we held off on announcing Pogba for maximum social media exposure
Alexis's unveiling was bollocks too
You'd ideally like to see some sort of confirmation from the club so fans can breathe out

Thinking Murtough/Fletcher will want this done quickly to show their ability to pull off a deal
Once Sancho's done I'd like to see us go all out for Varane
Did all the Pau Torres links die down?
Are we really in for Camavinga?
Young players in all positions to build for the future?
Well done, good job.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
85 million Euros as the total fee is insane given what Dortmund wanted at the start of this summer (100 million Euros + bonuses). What about the reports of offers for more money? Maybe the structure of the 85-million-Euro deal favoured Dortmund more than our bigger offers.
I think it was mentioned the breakthrough was we were willing to give more up front but less in total at some point in this negotiation. Sure someone reliable said that back when I was beardless when it was first reported to be close.

Swap Sancho & Rashford around and get a DM in next to Pogba in that double pivot and without doubt our strongest side post-Fergie

Talk about finding an alternative reality. If you read this thread to last summer and through the year this was the summer Liverpool, City and maybe Real Madrid was gonna bid for him. We should have payed the 120 million last summer as the price and competition would be a lot more intense this summer.

The club made a great call last summer and are reaping the benefits now. Credit where credit is due.

What? At the start of the summer it was reported they wanted us to pay what we offered last year. If the fee is true, we have negotiated them down massively. I'm also not sure what rate you think a players price should depreciate at, but seems like a frightening rate. I'd like to buy a car off you.

Exactly. The club did really a great job in this deal. They knew what they were doing, while people here just kept on calling them for "not backing the manager" just because they wanted us to go and stupidly pay 120m in one player in a COVID affected window.

At the end we're paying less than what we paid for Pogba. Great business.

The natural progression from Dortmund was 120 million Euros + bonuses to 100 million + bonuses. For Dortmund, the latter figure was the "meeting in the middle". We negotiated that down to 85 million Euros in total (bonuses included, so we don't even know what the guaranteed fee is), which is very good negotiations against a club that's in the CL.

Yeah, that's exactly it. I don't remember who mentioned that, either. I'll have to look that up later.

I don't understand what the two clubs are doing given we were told Dortmund weren't willing to negotiate.

"but he only recycles news"
You’re literally just choosing to believe him over a different outlet? It doesn’t mean he’s right and they’re wrong

He does recycle news. He never mentioned camavinga until somebody else did, then he ‘confirms’ their news

Dortmund needs to ask -- was he worth the €35m for keeping him an extra year?

Just had a notification from the Utd app and after seeing the recent reports from Germany, I thought it was Sancho related. Such a let down.

Considering that Sancho was the difference in them making CL football or not with the end of season run in, id say that's an easy yes for them.

Well, aside from the curiosity as to why we’d be spending such a sizeable chunk of our time and budget pursuing a left-winger, of course.

Its done. But because it is us and the biggest transfer this summer -at least until now, journalists are even reporting the structure, installments etc.

It could be that Dortmund doesn't want to look greedy on any of their potential signing. Or they see no other club is willing to fork out more than 85m. But yeh who knows.

16 goals and 15 assists for Sancho since then. They only made the CL places by 4 points (and had to win 6 games on the bounce to do it). It was probably worth it.

It's not about believing in this regard. It's pointing out that people claiming he recycles news are just lazy generalisations.

He doesn't normally confirm until its done and rarely jumps the gun. If all he did was recycle news, he'd be jumping all over this and backing skysports up. But he's going against what they say, so regardless of who is right, he's not just "recycling news".

Why does everyone have such a hardon for him? Everytime I watch him plays for England, he does nothing. Skysport is reporting £77m so where is this £85m fee from?
