His shooting / final ball was poor tonight. He does depend on his pace a lot.

This is a guy who at 22 years old has already scored away at the Etihad, Old Trafford, Anfield, Camp Nou, the Bernabeu, the Allianz Arena, the Juventus Stadium and Signal Iduna Park.

He’s had a bad tournament, no doubt. But people need to stop talking nonsense, for real.
Yep. He's had the tournament of a 22 year old with a lot of expectation on him and a lot of pressure both inner and from outside on his future.

The worst of the worst on this forum.

This imaginary competition only exists in the heads of a section of deluded United fans.
Considering the performance of today by mbappe it's not that unrealistic.

I think Mbappe needed a reality check. The knowledge that among all France players, he was the one most responsible for the team’s elimination from the Euros should help the 22-year-old.

his play in general has been very good in this tournament, but when came to finishing he turned in to Mcburnie, should really be sitting as top scorer in the tournament with the chances he has had, have no doubt he will come again hes an excellent talent, personally think he is more suited to the wing rather then as a ST,

I really hope he’s smart and professional enough to reflect on this tournament and to realize it’s not just a somehow unlucky penalty miss but a matter of attitude and that if he stays petty and behaves like a diva he’ll never become the greatest. Needs to put the ego past him and grab some leadership qualities. I want him to show the Ronaldoesque drive now and the hunger to prove the world he is the natural heir to CR-Messi era.

Hasn't kicked on since the World Cup. That comes from not having any real competition or impetus to improve playing in Ligue 1.

He needs to get out of there for the sake of his own career.

He isn't though.

He'll never reach those levels.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion

Anyone who even tries to put Rashford in the same bracket as Mbappe needs a forensic examination of their football knowledge. Mbappe is at least a couple of levels above rashford.

He’s going to go to real and score a boat load of goals but for the next while how successful they are in Europe mostly depends on who else they sign or have to put around him. They look to be a team in transition. He’s not going to win anything by himself. I think he’s still too young to carry a team that big. He couldn’t do it with neymar in the few seasons either. You would imagine Real will eventually crack it again soon and he’s the best young forward they could sign. He looks like he’s going to have a long and world class career if Real sort themselves out.

Yeah, if he goes to Madrid he’ll do very well there, with the caveats you noted.

Mbappe is at least a level above Rashford but Messi and Ronaldo at the same age were at least a level above Mbappe and fast improving.

Mbappe has stagnated at his current level for a while.

Thought keepers were supposed to not move forward from their lines on penalties? Sure looks like he was well off for the save.

But it is.

Look none of us have a crystal ball, and in five years time Rashford may well be a far better player than Mbappe in 2026. However there’s no indication that will be the case, Mbappe is already a far better player than Rashford and also looks to have a lot of potential he still had to fill.

You can’t go calling Rashford better than Mbappe because of today. Rashford regularly puts in worse performances than today.

I love Rashford but he’s well behind Mbappe in ability and potential.

Bloody hell he was rubbish infornt of goal last night. Pogba played some sensational passes to him and he kept doing his best Welbeck impression. Just awful. To then miss the penalty really topped off a blooper of a tournament for Mbappe. I'm sure he'll come back strong for France but that really was a poor show.

Wait do people actually think Rashford and Mbappé are on the same level? Thought it was some kind of meme, haha

I think the gap between Messi/Ronaldo and Mbappe at 22/23 is far bigger than the gap between Mbappe and Rashford. Messi and Ronaldo at around 22/23 is already clearly the best player in the world, winning Ballon D’or and such, with amazing skills and performance week in week out, Mbappe is nowhere near to that level yet, he is amazing in French league with dominate side but flopped badly on biggest stage (Euro), that’s about it.

Some oddballs do. It's where the meme comes from. Mbappe is comfortably better, it's not a contest. There's no way England for example don't play Mbappe

Hope people realise why Neymar is the better player. Mbappe is brilliant but he can be erratic and kept very quiet if you fence him in. Xavi had a point a few years ago.
It's always been clear that Neymar is better but Mbappe has age and seemingly a strong mentality on his side. Last night he was incredibly awful though. Wow

Donatello's finishing was horrendous and wasteful the entire tournament. Had great build up play for the goal(s), but lost his composure when going for goal. It was laughable. I laughed when he walked up for his pen because I, along with millions of people, immediately thought it was going to end the way it was for him.

He's not the most polished finisher, but he's still a top player as an inside forward. Lost his head too many times this tournament in strong positions.

A: You don’t actually know that

B: That’s got nothing to do with whether he’s the heir or not
Of course nobody knows but Ronaldo and Messi are 2 of the 4 best ever, so it's pretty safe to say he'll never reach their levels.

I would be surprised if Mbappe ever hit Neymar's level. Neymar was just more gifted/talented than Mbappe is.

That said, Mbappe is still very young, so he does have time on his side.

Neymar is much more talented without a doubt but Mbappe, prior to this, has come across as mentally more ruthless and he has this knack for making the right decisions on a football pitch that belied his age. Let's see, long way to go for Mbappe. Last night was an epic failure on his part.

True all-time greats all have a genius-level understanding of the game. I can't see it in Mbappé. He's one of the most physically gifted players the sport has ever seen and he has very good technical ability, which alone is enough to make him world class, but his decision-making and reading of the game leaves a lot to be desired, and that's very difficult to improve as well. I can't see him getting much better than he already is, and once his pace goes he'll sadly go downhill very quickly.

There's no way in hell he'll ever get to Ronaldo/Messi levels, which is no slight on him. Only a handful of players in history have. I'd be surprised if he surpasses Neymar as a footballer as well. Neymar is unquestionably a genius. I don't think Mbappé is.

Ironic that the guy who did nothing but dive to try and win penalties all tournament is then the one to miss a penalty and send his country home

Agreed 100% he will never reach those levels. Messi and Ronaldo were much better at their respective athletes.

Mbappe is more of a Bale type in my eyes, a natural sprinter with a good finish and lightly more nimble.

Even Neymar at a similar ages is/was a tier above Mbappe for me.

The problem with Mbappe is the way he talks about himself and talks about things and himself. He has a high opinion of himself and it doesn't bother me as long you can back it up on the pitch. I hope this turns into a good humbling lesson. The stuff he was saying prior to the Euro was cringeworthy

Mbappe's clearly a talented player but he's stagnated in a big way and needs to leave France for a more competitive league if he's ever going to fulfill his potential.

The quality of the league outside of the top 3 or 4 is very poor. There's any number of PL players that would get a bag full of goals playing over there.
