The question we should ask is why are United not trying to get him if he’s supposedly halving his salary to go to City? We could easily pay what it’s seemingly costing to get him as he clearly doesn’t want to be at Juve and he would most definitely pick us over City if we came in for him.

Because we have dead wood like Martial stinking up the pay roll and who operates in a similar place in the pitch to him

Because we’re stupid af. City are signing the exact two players we needed to sign and the worst part is both Jack and Ronaldo would not say no to Utd.

We’d have to sell which we’re not very good at.

The thought of him signing for City is genuinely disgusting. I've seen lots of players play for both teams over the years but this one would hurt :(

Hope it doesn't happen.

It's possible he's looking to move where he has the most certainty of success in the Champion's League at this point in his career, he's at the tail-end of it and if he can cap things off with a CL or two, that would be a fantastic end to it. United is very promising, and with a player like CR7 it could even be a real contender, but it's still all potential right now compared to a club like City.

Will be interesting to see how United the club would handle media involving Ronaldo. I think the fans will largely not want to see any United Ronaldo media if he joins. It's not just City, it's the whole Abu Dhabi lottery winning riding on the coattails of United, it's a double twisted dagger into a historic club, a victim of its own success and not wanting to be sold off for sport washing. Had this state bought Newcastle and turned it around it would've been a lot better, you already have one of the world's biggest clubs in Manchester United and Liverpool in the same region with all the success. North East have not seen anything and this Beswick story is a load of crap, it's just feckery on 150 years and riding and trampling on football made by others, ghastly even.

I would want to draw a line on any Ronaldo connection. This City PSG era just gets worse. I already treat it with a big asterisk, I will have to barely take notice of the league soon it's so facile. I'm so glad to have experienced the time before, even when we were doing feck all in the 80s.

The story seems to be that it is his side reaching-out to City and trying to get them interested - in which case we're not in the picture because he doesn't want us, he wants City.

Yeah, the only way this deal doesn’t go through is if city doesn’t want him/refuses to meet Juve’s asking price. Ronaldo will join them if it means a few more titles and a possible shot at UCL glory. Those thinking his United connection would stop him are deluding themselves. He also wouldn’t join us for that exact reason - he wants a team ready to win and in with a shot of old big ears.
Yeah, agree with all that. Also, am pretty certain that City PR team is jumping and happily twitching at the thought of "doing one" over United and sign Ronaldo of all people (especially after that embarrassment called Grealish unveiling).

However, Guardiola is there until 2023 by the look of things and they will ultimately do and act how he decides.

I think he might be more connected to the players and staff of old, Sir Alex in particular whom he views as a father figure (in sports). But he's dropped several comments in the past about his feelings for the club and people who work in it.

It's hard to tell what he feels about the club today, but in the past he's been vocal about it when asked. I guess the whole playing for other clubs thing has put a bit of a damper on the flirting with other clubs thing.

In 2014 he had this to say:

“Some players I am still in contact with because when I was there I created a good relationship with everybody, not just the players, all the staff around. “And it was like my second family there too, so I’ll not forget that the people treat me well. I’ll not forget. “I love Manchester, to be back, I never know, you never know. “Of course I’m happy at Real Madrid, it’s my home, it’s my club but Manchester treat me unbelievable so we never know.”

And later that same year this

I love Manchester,” he said. “Everyone knows that. Manchester is in my heart. “The supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.”

In 2015 this comment dropped:

“I’m a huge supporter of Manchester United – as I say many times, I’m very comfortable in Real Madrid now, I feel happy,” Ronaldo told The Jonathon Ross show in 2015. “But as people know I like Manchester United, I love that club, but in the future, nobody knows. But right now I feel good and I feel happy in Real Madrid.”

In 2017 he had this to say on the question of returning to Manchester United

“Nothing is impossible," he said.

In another interview, published around the same time, Ronaldo also praised United fans for not booing him - unlike Real Madrid’s supporters.

"I don’t like it and it’s not normal that they whistle you in your own stadium. I just don’t like it,” he said. "It’s not correct. And when you are on a difficult run that is when you need extra support from outside not less. Sometimes we don’t have it. "I spent a lot of years at Manchester United and it never happened to me. Not even once. Maybe England is a case apart – the mentality is different."

He's attributed Sir Alex several times as a father figure in football and has tremendous respect and I suppose love for the man.

"He's a fantastic person. A human person. He taught me many things," Ronaldo once told CNN. "Like I've said before, he's like a father in football, because he taught me many things. I really miss him because I have a great relationship with him." "When my dad was sick in London and was in hospital-very bad, in a coma-I had a conversation with [Ferguson]," Ronaldo said. "I said, 'Boss, I don't feel good.' "We are in a key moment in the league and the Champions League, but I say, 'Boss, I don't feel good. I want to see my dad.' "[He said] 'Cristiano, you want to go one day, two days, one week, you can go. I'm going to miss you here because you know you are important, but your dad [comes] first." "When he told me that, I thought, 'This guy's unbelievable. He was a football father for me."

Not to be cynical but Manchester united has the biggest fan base in the world, perfect for personal branding to keep us sweet as fans.

I've noticed recently a lot of ex-United players nearing or in retirement have often come out with "once a red, always a red" type shit.
You can understand the likes of Rio, Neville, Scholes, Evraetc. who are seen as legends, but players like Fabio & Rafael with their "Sunshine Kids" book, bigging up SAF,
Herrera with this: https://tribuna.com/en/news/manutd-...t-will-always-be-a-red-devil-ander-herreras-/
Berbatov does it etc.
I really think players do this so that after they retire they can sell some book or merchandise as part of their brand to earn money because they can't coach or whatever. And who do you think the target audience is?

Are any west brom fans going to be reading the sunshine kids? I doubt even any Lyon, Nantes, QPR or any other fans of teams they've played for will read it.
It's all just appealing to the United fanbase.

Ronaldo is smart, and his personal brand is huge for a reason, he has been pushing the buttons of United fans using our beloved SAF for years. So many publicity stunts like the coca cola thing at the euros.

He will 100% go to City if they want him

The masochist in me slightly wants this to happen, just so I can laugh at all the people on here still worshipping him as if he has any love for our club.

Ronaldo does not care for Manchester United as much as people think (or wish) he does.

  1. It's been 12 years since Ronaldo left United to play for his dream club and almost all his teammates from that time have since retired from football.
  2. His best years were spent representing Real Madrid, where he has a much larger and genuine "Legend" status
  3. In his 12 years away from United he has helped knock us out the CL with Real Madrid and celebrated a goal against us with Juventus.
In my opinion, it's Sir Alex Ferguson who Ronaldo thanks for his development, not Manchester United. I think Manchester United is simply an ex-employer on his CV and I won't hold it against him if he goes to City. My love affair with him ended the day he put on that Real Madrid shirt. I will simply move to disliking him as I dislike most City and Liverpool players by default.

Personally, I've actually always been bothered by how he was held in a much higher regard than players like Rooney, Ferdinand, Evra and Vidic even whilst they were actually still playing for the club.

Same here. Would be a loooooong overdue wake up call. He hasn't worn a United top in 12 years.

I honestly would just think it’s weird for both, he’s 36 and won’t press/work defensively off the ball at all. The PR would be so cringeworthy I’d almost want to see it, like unveiling Roy Hodgson as a new up-and-coming manager.

CR7 gets ‘extra’ positive reminiscing from fans because he went on to smash it at Madrid & be in the GOAT conversation and we, as United fans, like to think we’re still involved in that success. He panders to us but his dream was always Real, he lived that dream and now he’s just chasing records. At least we had him in some of his best years and won a shed load.

Ronaldo's current deal at Juve is 30 M net and he previously rejected an extension with half that.

Fab Romano is saying City offered him 24 M€ net. 2 years contract (+1 year in option)

That's about like £37 M / year. That's more than £700K /week. For 2 years. It is a huge investment. But yes Ronaldo is worth it.
If they're offering him that he should take it, it's a very good deal and they will be favorites! I would want it to see him in PSG if they lose Mbappe though...

Apparently he approached City, not the other way around.

Give over, you giddy flids.

Ronaldo, was a ballon d'or winner when left United TWELVE YEARS AGO at his peak. He is nowhere near that level now. He's not running the channels on both wings anymore, or counter attacking teams from the halfway line. He was overshadowed by Chiesa, last season. Which is probably one of the main reasons why he wants to leave now.

Can he still get on the end of crosses and bang in the goals? Yes. Will I be gutted seeing him having a final swan song at City? No I won't.

He would join the likes of Dennis Law, Andy Cole, Peter Schmeichel...

Good luck to him.

Give your fannies a good wipe and grow up. City buying has beens is good for us, because we are going all in for Haaland and he is fookin mint.

Honestly doesn't seem like a Pep signing, and neither did Grealish.

We all know what happened when pep managed someone like Ronaldo (Ibra).

Ronaldo will be coming out with stuff like 'I'm a Bugatti being driven like a Citroën'.

Martial has been a mediocre signing for United over the years. He has been here for 6 years and is nearly 26. He is not some young talent still defining his game but is meant to be a full fledged player now. What has he added to his game in the 5 years? What does he offer other than cutting in from the left wing? (Which many wingers can do much better)

he is on 250k a week. That is an obscene amount of money for a forward that doesn’t even provide 1 goal every 3 games and whose other creative input is limited (most of our creativity flows through Pogba and Bruno).
I have no idea why our stupid management gave him this contract, there was literally nothing to justify this. Though I assume the ‘ice cold’ delusional **** fan base he has buys plenty of shirts

After Levy had saved football, that should have been the end. Now, Sir Alex will once again need to step in. PSG and City are ruining the most important thing in football, the bond between the club and the fans.

Pep and Ronaldo don't strike me like a good match. Wouldn't mind him here for a season or two, we could use his experience and mentality.

Because he's thirty fecking six years old and on top of the 25mm he'd cost, would demand preposterous wages of about 700K a week. As good as he is, we are not an oil state bank rolled club, and that kind of investment would be stupid for a self sustainable club for a player his age. If he came on a free and wanted 300-400k a week, yes I could see it for the impact and commercial value he'd have, but at the figures quoted we'd be fecking ourselves over.

Clearly we need to offload players, but as everyone can see it's very challenging in COVID to get anything like the fees we'd want for any of our unwanted players.

I rarely post as one of the earlier posters on this forum but this would be a disaster for United if he goes. We have enough money to sign him and we would sell enough merchandise to fund it. The only issue is will Ronaldo be ok being a squad player or not. Playing like 30 games instead of 55 in all competitions. Imagine cavani and Ronaldo sharing the responsibility at the 9. Also he is 36 and can come in later if we need a goal. We will have they same issue with our other forwards too. If martial stays we have rashford sancho Greenwood and even James for 2 positions. Imagine ronaldo and cavani continue Greenwood’s education at the 9 where I believe his final position will be. I realize this is the fan in me but I can’t really imagine him that that awful blue kit at old trafford..

I reckon he’d take a pay cut to come here… from the 700k that is.

Ronaldo will damage his brand with United fans signing with city. Irrespective of whether we play in adidas, Nike etc will be aware of this as city just doesn’t have same appeal. I wonder if personal sponsors will discuss reconsidering his position. In the alternative his brand value would increase more so resigning with United.

Really? You will enjoy a city player winning the league title?
Hypothetically speaking, I wouldn’t necessarily regard Ronaldo as just a City player, more like Ronaldo in City shirt doing his GOAT things to me. I see Ronaldo > City.
