Let's be honest here. Ronaldo would move to Liverpool or Barca if he thought that scenario had the best probability of him winning the Balon Dor.

Winning the league and CL with City is his best chance to do that. I can see it ending in massive success or failure. Imagine it's City and PSG in the CL final - a different kind of El Clasico

What on earth does Chelsea making big mistakes in the transfer market have to do with Man United fans being upset at their own legends for a choice of club?
Tammy for 30+ mil, Tomori for 20 odd mil, Guehi for 20 odd. Zouma about to go for 30.

People are buying.
You kind of introduced the topic of Chelsea's transfer activity to the thread.

My comment was in relation to banter I've seen, which has bizarrely been largely from Chelsea fans.

Chelsea fans have been getting a bit chatty since their ucl win which does that to you tbf. Maybe in 20-30 years people will care about them as much as people care about us.

I think he will look at the UCL draw tonight before making a move
Hope City gets the toughest draw atleast this time and he stays at Juventus.

Yeah he wants to be remembered as the greatest player in history and while he'll never be remembered as having as great ability on the ball as Messi, if he can go City to and have as good a chance as ever at another PL and CL it's a no brainer and will cement his glory. At juventus he isn't winning another Ballon D'or or CL, but at City he's got a great chance.

Somebody said nobody was buying. As a Chelsea fan I know that's incorrect and gave examples. Thats all.

And as for banter, I know for a fact that nobody on here needs your help thinking up insults for Chelsea!

That’s the worst thing. Shows how I feel about him on a deeper level that I almost expect him to celebrate like a knob if he scores. The ‘shh’ and “SIIIII” bollocks would be out in full force.
 could you imagine

I hope he ends up at Paris. Let him go stand up front with Neymar and Messi and it'll be a nice ending to both their stories IMO.

Once bitter rivals, now team mates.

He's still seen as a **** hero at United and part of our best moments in recent history, it would be a shame for that legacy to be broken. I didn't really care that he scored against us for Juve or Madrid - but City would be different.

I hate it and it would ruin his legacy for me but I can see why he would do it. He is obsessed with football, with winning, with trophies and records and right now Juve are very unlikely to win the Champions League, and they didn't even win the league last year.

He has a chance to go to one of the most free flowing and creative teams in Europe and arguably joint favourite to win the Champions League with PSG and I think he will see himself falling behind Messi if he doesn't make a big move this summer.

I keep telling myself that he will not move due to loyalty to Man Utd, the fans and most of all, to Fergie but his egotistical nature will be pushing for this move.

Worst part is, they will have him for a year or two and then next year will also add Kane to the mix anyway for Pep's last year.

Only thing that can stop this is I am hoping Juve demand too much money and Ronaldo himself will want ridiculous wages.

I don't even think he will excel there, not sure he is a Pep type player and I think he will frustrate Pep and his teammates far too often if he joins however the damage with United fans will have been done by then.

Why would it ruin his legacy? How are Andy Cole, Denis Law and Peter Schmeichel viewed on here?

I'm only old enough to know about Cole and Schmeichel but their legendary status has been tainted.

Plus it's different this time round, City nowadays are challenging for the big titles. Back then. Not so much.

I wonder what his pals Rio, Evra and co. make of this. Those guys are part of the Ronaldo fandom and often glorify him on social media. Rio genuinely has deep affection for him. I wonder what his view of Ronaldo would be now. Would they be calling/texting him?

100%. If Rio's texting Varane about joining us, he's going to be messaging Ronaldo about going to bloody City.

Jesus Christ social media apps are a cesspool. Looking at Twitter and Instagram for some interesting discourse, and all people do is post rehashed memes all day. Braindead shit. It didn’t used to be THIS bad. It’s almost like everyone has gotten significantly dumber. Thank god for forums (although this is my second to last post of the day, haha).

Why are people comparing this with Schmeichel

City are competing for CL and Prem titles now. Joining them as a United product and legend is absolutely shameful.

Totally different, City are a direct rival to us for the title now. Back then, they were more trying to avoid relegation.
Means feck all really, when he celebrated the win against us. Time to take off the rose tinted glasses.

If you cannot see a difference then that's your prerogative. I am not questioning whether Schmeichel was right or wrong, just that to me this is far worse.

Anyone want to bet with me? I am certain Ronaldo won't move to Man City this window.

I'm offering big money. £10.

Terms and conditions apply. You can't be a newbie and 1 bet only.

No one said it's exactly the same, and obviously if Schmikes beat us to the title it would've been much worse. But many still regard him as a United legend, so it was worth a mention.

My wit's end
The way he left United means he's never been a club legend for me. Not even close.

At best, you could say I used to have a soft spot for him. But because he's been playing for our European rivals ever since, what was once a tenuous connection in the first place has been gradually shrinking even further.

If he joins City, I honestly wouldn't care on a personal level. Ronaldo burned his bridges ages ago. I barely even associate him with Manchester United these days. It'd be no different to me than Grealish or Kane joining them: a dangerous player, but one I don't give a shit about beyond that.

Ronaldo's just a mercenary who used United as a stepping stone and will go on to use City similarly to pad his stats.

It’s different. I don’t blame Law or Cole especially because they just needed to play football or make a wage. City with Cole and Schmeichel were just local rivals. The City team now is a rival in so many ways that Cristiano moving there is way worse.

If Ronaldo played for a mid table City side, it’s meh, it’s shit but whatever, no one will remember it. Does anyone remember anything Cole or Big Pete did at City? Cristiano will probably win a few titles with City.

Today I learned the word "amortization"
One of the most important words in football.

Its the reason net spend is not the way football clubs look at their finances. Its also the reason, I suspect, that we're so happy to keep renewing deadwood players.

As for Ronaldo, like I said before in this thread, for him football is a job. All the niceties are one sided. People shouldn't delude themselves into think Cristiano has a Man Utd pillow or something. He would happily bag a hat trick against us for City and celebrate in front of the Stretford End in their colours.

Those players gave their best years to United.
As soon as this guy became worldclass, he couldn't wait to feck off.
Don't compare them.

I could actually picture Ronaldo wanting to go there specifically because of the attention and outrage it would cause. The Premier League is the most watched League and he'd suddenly have all the eyes on him again.

I've always sensed the fans love him more than he loves the club. Towards the end of his time here he couldn't wait to go. His real affinity is towards Fergie, in my opinion. He's never hidden his true love is Real. If City pay, he'll go to them.

People are buying Chelsea players, yeah. Outside of Lingard, all the players we are trying to sell are not particularly desirable.

Obviously I know about Law and his goal but the circumstances around Cole, Schmeichal etc were of players on the downward trajectory of their career playing at crap club in an area where they probably still had family/friends and they're both still legends in my eyes.

In contrast, Ronaldo is still an elite player (even at the end of his career) joining an actual competitor. Also, on a personal level, 2006-07 season was probably my favourite season as a United fan and it's going to feel weird to remember it if this happens. Irrational i know.

I could forgive Schmiechel and Cole since they were very much over the hump and City were shite then, and to this day consider themselves United through and through (big Pete always refers to United as 'us' when he's doing punditry and interviews). But for Ronaldo it would be unforgivable IMO. It would also be a big slap in the face for SAF who nurtured him to being the player he is today. I always had an inkling that he never cared very much for the club and that's fine, but to join our local rivals - an oil club who are already comfortably the best team in the league? Nah get fecked Ronnie.

Yeah. The change of narrative re lukaku is quite funny. Clearly better suited to them than us but despite losing a bit of chub I see the exact same player.
