Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

Its the manner of the losses not the losses themselves that make sacking him imperative, I enjoy seeing them in the mud like this but I think, for them, it's got to the point where they have to stop the bleeding and get some positivity back. This particular international break offers such an opportunity otherwise he will flatter to deceive with a couple of wins then go on another season demaging run soon after. Its about stopping the spiral of negativity and getting the club back on a positive setting before January.

I'm not disagreeing whether he should be sacked or not. I'm just saying logically, it makes little sense to sack him this early in the season especially as 1. they've invested quite a bit on his players and 2. these games were writeoffs anyway and all the information that Arsenal board would be having about making a decision was present in May as well

So sacking Wenger was a great idea?

Wenger overstayed his welcome from a footballing perspective, however their problems lie deeper than just the coach/manager. It's the overall leadership, recruitment and running of the club from the top. We're underestimating how autocratic Wenger's reign was. There was little LEADERSHIP continuity planning because he oversaw almost every aspect of the club. Added to that, they have owners who really couldn't care less what happens.

You’re clearly going to miss out on top talent, but there must be bucketloads of good young players that want to come to London and play for arsenal. Surely
Yep, the fact Tierney and Saka have committed to them despite the state they're in is testament to that.

If they start recruiting wisely they will be able to attract good players (and a decent/top coach) to rebuild.

Just bizarre. Sir Alex has a history of struggling to differentiate between good assistants and good managers, but I really don’t get it…what has Arteta done to deserve so much trust after so much contrary evidence?!
Cause he worked with Pep and dresses like him. That’s literally it. He was overhyped from the beginning by everyone and now everyone can see how he alienates the squad and isn’t a good man manager. I still struggle to see a philosophy from Arsenal. I mean with Ole, even with a shit team when he took over, you could see how he wanted to play within a few months.

They're friends first. What the feck do you expect him to say IN PUBLIC??? You can't be that naïve to think that Pep is gonna slate his friend, in front the media, in front of the world after his team just humiliated his friend's team 5-0.
I don't expect him to slate him, but to shamelessly lie about it is ridiculous. Nobody is buying that bullshit.

The big mistake seems to be not backing and sacking Unai Emery. Arsenal have needed a big clear out of players for years but they've given the job to someone who is just very shite a real life football manager.

The real mistake is to hire this guy when they could have hired a more experienced manager. I bet even rafa Benitez would do a much better job than him.

Trying somehow to defend Arteta FFS, ridiculous from Pep.
What's he going to do in that situation? It wasn't exactly unprompted, he was asked a direct question. A little dramatic in his response but if he's a friend what else can he say and retain his friendship - Arteta doesn't know his arse from his elbow made terrible signings?

The fact is its been established that he isn't good enough so keeing him for a few more months won't change anything and their club is engulfed in a spiral of negativity so there is really no point in delaying executing a decision you know you are going to have to make a couple of months down the line. Keeping him around is pointless because he ain't coming back from this, bring a new guy in and try to salvage the season whilst there is still time.

learnt a few things from baldy then...

Tbf Benitez is an excellent coach.

Will get sacked soon. I arsenal want to make progress, get Conte in. That will sort out alot of the crap.

Firstly, I'm not an Arsenal fan. Secondly, my point is whoever is the one taking the decision, they might as well give him a month more to see how his new signings perform. Unlikely he'd be a success and it's delaying the inevitable, but from an image perspective (which is required if you want a reputed manager next), you dont want to come across as clueless and stupid. In the last 3 weeks, the board has learnt absolutely nothing apart from the fact that he's shit - something they've known for the past 8 months. So, why give 130m to a shit manager only to sack him 3 games into the season!

Edit: Not saying he shouldn't be sacked, but Arsenal board (or for that matter any board) wont pull the trigger this early

Tbh atm Arsenal still has a better squad than what Ole had when he took charge. At least a similar one. We had to make do with Pereira, Lingard, Fellani, Young, Bailly ... Shaw was half the player he is now. With a dressing room full of egos and problems.

Arteta should simply stop trying to play Pep football without the players capable of. He has a lot of fast players, some fast counter attack and a more direct approach would help a lot imo.

They are well worse than what Utd were.

Arsenal fans deserve everything they get after they hounded Arsene out.

I don't feel sorry for them one bit.

Not very good is he. Seems clueless on and off the pitch to be honest. He’s cleared out a lot of deadwood that held Arsenal back only to spend a fortune on players who are even worse the squad is absolutely crap.

I still can’t get my head around this summers budget, they’ve had close to 150m and come to the conclusion that White, Ramsdale and Laconga are the guys to take them forward it’s shocking.

In what world are Arsenal in a position to spend 25m on a sub keeper?

So the solution is to bring Wenger back? Wenger was basically their SAF. I wonder if Arsenal regrets caving into the fans' demand and sack Wenger. They should just admit they made a mistake and ask him to come back. Also that Arsenal FansTV channel is toxic and they should shut it down.

How many talented players has he alienated/let go, while holding onto and buying dross?

It starts with Ozil, but he also had a fight with Aubameyang I think. Bought the great Willian.
Then Saliba, Toreira and Guendouzi, while throwing money at Xhaka, one of the worst CMs in the league.
It's not like they started with a great defence, but they've spent big to not improve that either.
Martinez for Leno and then Ramsdale :wenger:

Playing Holding, Kalasinac, Xhaka, Chambers, Soares... So bad it could be a money laundering front.

He's so unimpressive on all fronts. Even on days when Ole gets clearly out-coached, you can compare this with the squad he inherited and see the improvements. Arteta has zero redeeming features.

Their transfers are shocking. I refuse to believe these transfers are made by a human doing his job or acting in the interest of the club.

They're getting relegated.

You're still not answering the question. What do you expect him to say? You should be watching football long enough to know that managers don't berate each other in the media. Yes, they may have a bit of back and forth in terms of what happened during a game but for another manager to explicitly criticize another in this context is unheard of.

Something a little more honest, saying his team was superior and focusing more on his team rather than making excuses for his pupil.

They've had a lot of contenders in the last 15 years- 8-2 United, 5-1 Liverpool, 5-1 Spurs, at least three 5-1s to Bayern, 6-0 Chelsea, 4-0 United, 4-0 Southampton. Also I'm sure they've had at least 2 other 4 or 5-0 losses to Liverpool in the last decade. Dishonourable mentions for a 6-3 defeat to City, a 6-1 loss to United from 20 years ago, and a second half collapse to draw from 4-0 up against Newcastle.

I expected him to focus on his team rather than making excuses for Arteta. When asked about him then saying that he worked with him and is a great man etc the bit about immediate results I think was over the top.

It's the manner of the losses that should seal his fate. It was just so easy, and they had no fight in them. This comes from him, and he's been there for a while and had some cash to spend.

Top clubs going through a rebuild should go for top experienced managers, and while I do hope it works for Ole, I think the overall recent experience with Lampard and Arteta isn't encouraging.
