Statistically Bruno should take them. Don't agree with the posters here who that that the 100+ penalties should make Ronaldo the automatic taker.

Bruno would need to miss 25 of the next 120 odd penalties to come down to Ronaldo's level. At his current conversion rate, he misses 9 of those 120. Some of those he will also score in rebounds. His consistency on this is next level.

If anything, I'll prefer Bruno stat padding his goals with his penalties while Ronaldo scores goals from open play. However, knowing their relationship of a demigod and fan, Bruno is going to offer penalties to Ronaldo as a gift wrapped in custom made paper!
Statistically... nobody is arguing on who is the better free kick taker or penalty taker. But when you have Ronaldo, you have to make certain compromises in order to accommodate him. That's the simple truth

I mean, at least he’s willing to play along with the whole ‘he’s home’ propaganda.

The marketing machine aids him and his personal brand as much as it does MUFC. I think he just has to deliver on Saturday, otherwise this all looks limp.

Watching the Newcastle game from 2008 on MUTV.

Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez are the front three all in their prime. However, I can't but admire Carrick and Fletcher.

And Vidic and Ferdinand. What a team. Forgot how shit the OT pitch used to be in the winter.

Don't forget Evra.

I was actually thinking the same about the pitch. However, being a senior I have seen a lot worse during my time following United. Ronaldo's first hat trick in that game. Shame Barcelona had probably the best team ever or we would have conquered Europe.

we legit probably had the third best club team of all time in that era. 3 CL finals in 4 years is nuts. only bettered by, as you said Barcelona then, and what Real has done recently.

and we were winning the league whilst doing it too. Unfortunate Barca were so strong then.

Fletcher was a brilliant box-to-box midfielder hampered only by his health issues. He could influence major games; in fact, it was major games that Fletcher showed up in the most. I often think about what could have been for Darren. He was better than is often credited to him.

Pretty sure this is correct - The United team from 07/08 to 08/09 lost one single CL game - The final in Rome. :(

We could have won the 2009 final with a little bit of luck. The 2011 one - our squad had no business being in that final. Valencia, Fabio, Chicharito, great servants for the club, but they were not at that level. Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs - they were already showing signs of aging and decline. And they battered us as a result.

Not Vidic, 2010/11 was his best season for us.

Definitely agree with the overall point though.

Do you remember Wenger's head being absolutely gone because of how Fletcher was dominating Arsenal's midfield? Fletcher gave us one of the funniest moments in Old Trafford history. Some have too short memories of how good he was. If not for his illness he would have run the show for us for most of the last decade. Still remember him mugging off Milan in 2010.

As for Ronaldo, that Wes Brown interview has got me all in again.

As much I agree that the love in for Ronaldo is starting to go into cringe and gross territory, the business analysts have probably crunched the numbers and every new video is a reminder to “buy the home shirt with Ronaldo 7, and then buy the away shirt with Ronaldo 7 and then buy the 3rd shirt with Ronaldo 7!“… therefore more merch sales.

And it’s a gold mine for interested sponsors too. TeamViewer must have been having parties every day since deadline day.

Any chance Maguire offers Ronaldo the club captaincy as a mark of respect? I think everyone will see Ronny as the true leader and captain of this team anyway even without physically having the captains armband (our best player and our most senior/experienced in terms of trophies/caps). But I think from a marketing/commercial and PR perspective, it'll be like the Golden Goose for the club/Glazeiers and make even more $$$$$ having Ronny be captain for both club and country. The fans love him and he would be like the bridge between the fans and players/club

not to mention players like Rashford, Lingaard, Greenwood etc all look upto Ronny and admire him as most was kids in the Academy when Ronny was here last time. Plus he played with Ole so will be Ole's "right hand man" on the field.. It'll be a great story :keano:

Also didn't Maguire become club captain straight away when he joined? Imagine all the scenes of the players and staff trying to get selfies with him in training on Wednesday? he will be mobbed it'll be manic won't be much training! Also Manchester United now has a woman's team which they didn't have when Ronny was here before.. and most of them are big Ronaldo fangirls following him on social media even before he joined United:lol:
Wtf?

If Ole makes him captain that's one thing but Maguire absolutely should not had it over as a "mark of respect".

“This is why I am here,” states Ronaldo, with a look of determination.

“I am not here for a vacation. As I told you, before was good, winning important things and I wore the shirt before many years ago, but I am here to win again.

“I am capable, me and my team-mates. I am ready to go, I am ready to go. It is a good chance for me, for the supporters, for the club, to get one step ahead.

“I am ready and I think I will be a huge thing in the next three or four years.”

Good luck to him if hes after the outright Utd scoring record. I’d consider it fecking amazing if he just surpassed 200 Utd goals during his second spell here.

To be fair, he called us his 'second home' in an interview after we played Real Madrid years ago. It wasnt a scripted interview or anything.

That deep inhale after stepping at OT reminded me of Sanchez and his reveal video :nervous:

Imagine if he gets the all time United goal scoring record as well as the Madrid one (among the many others he also currently has) but the overall scoring record at TWO clubs is unprecedented surely.

He's 135 away. 135/4 = 33 a season.

Definitely doable.

Very tall order, but if he’s on track after two seasons then all bets are off.
