The One big hope I have for this year is that from the last couple years experience - when we get going; we really get going.

Hopefully that can happen soon.

However, I do feel we need Rashford a bit because we miss that extra 15-20 a season goal scorer within our first 11 at times.

tl-dr; Unless club structural issues are fixed and Manager's role is well-defined, Ole is our best bet, so good to back him.

Regardless of tactical astuteness, Ole needs credit for assembling the squad and creating an atmosphere for Ronaldo to entertain the thought of joining. Ronaldo wouldn't have joined us, had it been the 2019 squad with his exact same career situation, simple as that. 3 managers tried doing what he tried, but didn't come close. There are clubs like Chelsea that are built for a modular structure that enable outsiders to come in and manage, while everything else is running on it's own. United on the other hand, given how Ferguson managed it was more centralized. Only an insider who understands what made Ferguson's United successful could manage it successfully. This is what Mourinho called "structural" issues. So until Ed Woodward and others figure out how to create a modular structure with segregation of duties well established, etc., it has to be an insider.
While that sounds good and somewhat plausible, I don't think, it is true though. As you said, Ferguson was the man, he made the decisions in an environment, that was framed by the owners but ultimately, he was the one making "sports" decisions. When he retired, together with Gill, it wasn't like he left the front seat of a car just waiting for a new driver that can drive that car just as SAF. To stay in the metaphor - when SAF left, he took with him the driver seat, the wheel and the gear knob.
What happened afterwards was painful, no question about that. But the reason wasn't, that Ole came too late. Had Ole been the one after Moyes (whose negative impact by getting rid of the backroom staff was big) there is no guarantee at all, that he wouldn't have suffered the same fate.
Ole is an insider and I as well, like the fact that he seemingly uses SAF as a role model in how to run things, but to narrow the options down to "need an insider" doesn't seem plausible to me. LVG fell out at Bayern before, Mourinho at Real and Chelsea - they were known to "have the potential to cause problems". Which they did and it hurt the club big time. But to come to the conclusion, that the manager of Manchester United has to be an insider who does it as SAF is faulty in my mind. There are no indicators that this is the truth other than two trouble makers having made trouble.

As far as I understood, a modular model is implemented now - lets see how it works, until now, it seems to run pretty good and I am happy see how it developes. But crediting Ole with all that, I don't know, seems a bit naive to me. It could very well be at least as connected with Woody finally getting a grip realizing his own limits and having Murtough in a more influential position.

Ok. 2nd then. Not that much better as he scored just before the break
Yeah on target

Then you take away the Ronaldo into side netting and Varane putting it wide with a header... And Mason shot which lead to the goal
Oh and remove Ronaldos goal too

Then yeah, you're right, we barely had a shot in the first half, against a team that sat back and was time wasting ten minutes in...

Remember when Solskjær was so bad that we couldn't possibly attract top players? Don't see that daft arguement so much these days, do you?

There are still issues, our pressing is still terrible and unorganised and our passing is still quite slow and predictable, players taking too many touches due to a lack of movement.

That being said, this was the season that noone could make excuses for him anymofe and so far he's off to a great start, even if the performances haven't been great. As long as he can maintain this, don't think anyone should be disappointed

Being patient is good but we do really need to score early.

Our wing plays needed a bit more creativity I felt. And, of course we need to pass the ball quickly from the back. AWB was particularly guilty of it today.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
Remember Brexit FC when we wouldn’tsign anyone who wasn’t English.
Remember when he was a PE teacher completely out of his depth who wouldn’t last six months? Now he’s the perfect Glazer stooge good enough to guarantee you top 4 but not good enough to win trophies. He’s also cheating because unlike his predecessors who spent hundreds of millions he hasn’t pissed it up the wall and he keeps making great signings who win him games. What a sneaky cnut he is. I mean at this rate if we give him another few windows we may end up with the best squad of players in Europe…we can’t have that can we?

Top of the league with the worst manager ever.

We would have lost if Newcastle was peak Barca.

Why didn't we sign a world class holding midfielder and only the GOAT, Sancho and some dude who won some trophies abroad?

Well put, my thoughts exactly.

It must be infuriating being a stubborn member of the 'Ole out' clown patrol.

Ole is a lucky manager. Not only does he have the individual talents to bail him out if we are playing shite which I will not be surprised we will see more of this season, but now events that you Would not believe is happening to aid his fortune such as Wilson being out today and now, for our next game west ham best player in Antonio is suspended. I will have to take ole to Las Vegas with me.
Almost half of Villa's squads are suspended or injured. Go with Tuchel, he has more luck.

If you watched the first half, can you say we played good football?
Do you ever write something and go "No... maybe I shouldn't post this"?

Give it a try.

Then that is a very low standard you have towards what constitute as good football. We had lots of misplaced passes, was not intricate with our passing, our movements should have improved, and better decision and shooting was needed. Maybe I just have high standard.

I always praised ole for his signing. I have never criticized him about that and some claims that because of that he will make a good director of football over a manager.
This almost sounds like something the players on the pitch could be responsible for. Almost.

Our passing% today was 90% - Which happens to be: The highest% of the Premier League round.

It's fair to want more accuracy and perfection, but when you're finding your teammate with more passes than any other team in the league on the gameweek, how reasonable is your complaint?

We had nearly 100 more passes against Newcastle than the 2nd team on the list, Manchester City.

Sitting on top of the league after 4 gameweeks, again improving on our season starts, to complain about the manager being poor... is frankly weird.

There seems to be a sizeable proportion of this forum for whom nothing less than 90 minutes plus of dominance will suffice. And consequently, they will end up being disappointed. Unfortunately for them, might I add, cos there literally isn't a team in existence who has that in them. Not even Pep's wonder squad.

I try and make a conscious effort not to get dragged into this thread cos it's gone way beyond debate here and is overall a pretty toxic place, but the one comment I will make is that the win we got today was literally a carbon copy of the sorts of wins Liverpool got in their mammoth winning run in 2019/20. But when Klopp did it, it was a sign of the mentality monsters he created. With us, it's yet another sign that what we're doing is unsustainable.

Ole can't win, even when he does, ironically enough.

I think some people are too stubborn to admit they were wrong about Ole. We go on big runs and they disappear for weeks on end then we draw a match and they all come out the woodwork with the stock crap they spout as if its a vindication. These people obviously have short memories if they dont remember the ‘tried and tested big cv’ managers that we had before hand and how that worked out.

Would be nice to see a bit more positivity, its the best squad we have had since 2008 in my opinion and we are moving in the right direction. Unfortunately, some cling to the absurd notion that unless we are 7-0 ahead at half time every week then everything is a pile of shit. Or if we come from behind to win then we are ‘lucky’ as if we are some piece of shit bottom half championship side that has no facility to get a result if they concede. Or we relied on ‘individual brilliance’ because best, charlton, cantona, robson, beckham, scholes etc etc were all bang average middle of the road players who just relied on following the managers tactics and never did anything spontaneous or brilliant on the pitch.

Havent been on the caf all day, it was a great win, winning 4-1 is always good and he got the selection very well bar Matic who's finished honestly.

I did hate the performance in the 1st half, I struggle with the fact that after 3 years that's still the brand of football but hey, a win is a win. If you win trophies playing this kind of football, it counts just as much. However it has been proven time and time again, that most teams don't really go on to win things with that performance level. The second half was better and hopefully Ronaldo and Sancho get used to the team more. Varane looks like he's been here as a replacement since Rio went to QPR.

In Germany there is a saying best translated to

"Everything has been said, but not yet by everyone"

Have to think about it often when entering this thread. Don't know why though...

The atmosphere and mentality at the club is the highest it's been since SAF retired and it's not even close.

I actually thought we played well today(could have played better obviously). Newcastle parked a plane out there. They defended so deep and wasted time from the 1st minute. I thought we could have tried overloading the wide areas a bit more instead of the central areas.

I do think our performance level needs to be a bit higher as a collective, but it is early days.

I do think this season will answer a few questions regarding Ole IMO. But as things stand, we're going well and with more training sessions/games under our belt, we'll hopefully see a even better United going forward. So far so good and hopefully we can win the league, Champions league, FA Cup and the league Cup this season. ;)

Great post. This guy gets why exactly Ole could work for us why why he has a better chance to be successful here than many of the more lusted after coaches.

PS: On another note I'm not exactly sold on the need to become more like Chelsea in that regard. There's a reason I like United over Chelsea as an overseas fan and one of them is exactly the "family run" feel to it, whereas at Chelsea it seems hollow, just chop and change for the latest hipster coach. We should know what we are and our future managerial appointments should cater to that rather than what makes other clubs successful.
Fair point on not ruining the family feel, however we should also figure out how to re-create SAF’s secret sauce without relying on individuals. So this could be developing coaches internally and promoting from within by creating a pipeline. Just one way how to retain the DNA of the club without letting each manager bring a different philosophy.

As far as I understood, a modular model is implemented now - lets see how it works, until now, it seems to run pretty good and I am happy see how it developes. But crediting Ole with all that, I don't know, seems a bit naive to me. When you have institutions that lack proper structure, you need a lot of “insider knowledge” to get stuff done. For instance, there is a huge influence from class of 92 in decision making, etc., I feel they even helped Ole get some of the signings.Whether a club needs to run that way is a separate matter. However, no outsider would have had the understanding or the means to use those levers. This is just one example based on how things played out in public, there could be many more. So while the club fixing it’s decision making hierarchy, it’s important to have a manager who is able to operate within those constraints, while not being perfect. The only credit I’m giving Ole is that he is an insider who happened to be decent enough to get stuff done

What Ronaldo supposed to say? "Nah, Ole is fecking shit"
Ikr. Ole cultists will latch on to anything geezus. Can't just be happy with a win, gotta try to make it all about Ole. Admittedly, Ronaldo will give them a lot to gloat about though, not gonna lie.

But I'll tolerate their delusion if Ronaldo carries us to a few trophies. Only thing that is a worry is the fallout after he leaves because his brilliance is going to be make the club forget we have a clownshow as a coaching team.

Ronaldo said we have fantastic coaches, meanwhile redcafe experts talking about pattern of play, style, consistent way of play, better coaching, we should replace Mckenna...yadda yadda yadda.

Fact is you don't know shite. Go get your badges.

Yeah pretty much. I said something recently on Twitter about some stats guy (supposedly a Utd fan) who constantly denigrates Utd under Ole for having no plan and our results being unsustainable, that the way he talks about us, you'd be forgiven for thinking that we're Burnley, and not the team who was behind only Man City in points accrued since January 2020, and I think since Ole first joined in his caretaker stint we've been comfortably third on that metric as well, behind only the all conquering Liverpool and City sides.

That alone should tell you that what we're doing under Ole is pretty fecking sustainable, no?

Another corker was this absolute toilet water of a tweet:

Like seriously, what does that even mean? :houllier:

Don't we need better players to dominate lesser players at the first place?

The most important rule of football.
