Why so many knee-jerk reactions and negativity 7 games in?

Could’ve guessed this may have bit me in the ass….ahwell, you stand up and admit when you were wrong when you were wrong
tbf, credit to both you and @charlenefan for actually posting your regrets immediately when you realised it and not hiding behind delusion or spinning it.

Unfortunately that’s more than I can say for our manager…. He still seems as deluded as ever.

He shouldn’t be sacked after that, Leicester are a good side, but questions should be asked now.

Give him till January, but even then it may be too late.

Questions should be asked about coaching/tactics, can we get better coaches in to help out.

Ronaldo, Pogba are going to be asking these questions, so I expect the board will too
Have you seen the light. Ie Ole out? Or does he need more time?

For all the stuff that gets flung my way, sometimes unfairly & sometimes fairly as I do admit, sometimes I may go about things the wrong way, I’ll admit when I’m wrong and or apologise if it needs it

Though we're all losers in this situation, hopefully it will bring down the level of toxicity and infighting on the forum as views start to converge. Other than a rabid few, most are too despondent with the situation to engage in triumphant "told you so" stories and are probably just happy to have more of our brothers back on board pulling in generally the same direction. At the end of the day, everybody spending time here discussing the club are doing it for the same reason, because they care.

It's only a month ago we had @Wibble stating that the redcafe staff position was to give 'quality control warnings' for excessively negative posts about the manager. I believe one quote was "The modmin team have had an utter gutful of the emotive and irrational negativity on here. " essentially becoming rawk lite in staff positioning.

So we're in a shitty situation, but at least civil war in the fanbase is dying down. And to me at least, the club is all about the people and the city etc. Else it's just 11 overpaid prima donnas on a pitch.

As for me, I dunno. I've always been Ole out, but didn't see a point in switching mid season unless we had a top class target locked down. The way things are going though....I dunno. I feel we're gonna have to act in the next month or so to save the season if it continues. Give him like 3 more games? Maybe? Unless Zidane or somebody is willing to come, then just say goodbye. Otherwise I've no idea what our alternate plan is, and I think the board also have no idea as they haven't planned for this. (which is why his job is currently secure)

It's fine to say Bayern sacked Kovac, Chelsea sacked Lampard etc but you can see these clubs were proactive months before with their succession planning. I suspect we have none.

Much like the board waiting three years it’s a bit too late. Decisions like this cost us 4 seasons essentially and this one is also as good as over.

That’s 450m spent, won absolutely nothing in a vicious cycle where Ole should be sacked 7 or 8 times since he has been appointed.

The positivity and giving him more time has brought us back to this spot - square one with still many problems in the squad and a new manager to come in and bring his own philosophy.

Fans that condone such mediocrity from someone, that had zero credentials in the job and was hired due to nepotism, are also part of the problem. Earning “top red” status means going along with being happy with our performance on the pitch and perfectly aligned with the Glazers vision, where Ole was the perfect PR into the job.

And it has got worse since then. Nothing wrong with criticising the coaching or the results but some of the pathetic spoilt toddler tantrums are ludicrous.

Big difference between the board and the fans. Fans don't have decision making power, especially individually, and are well within their rights to support the current regime if they feel it can succeed. It's not the Chelsea fans who wield the axe, it's Marina/Roman. And that's due to the boards expectations, not the fans.

I agree with your core points, but it's a case for the board not the fans to answer. Wishing him to succeed is just that. Flawed in my own opinion, but perfectly valid/logical for a fan to do.

TBH I don't see it at any top club out there, bar United. The patience shown is unreal. Bayern, Barca, Real, Chelsea, City, etc - they will turn on a bad manager after 6 months in. No way Ole would've been appointed or lasted couple of months after his caretaker tenure. Regardless of whether he's a past great or club legend.

It's synergy between the fans and the board. And neither of the top clubs show patience for such mediocrity.

On the flip side, when the fans are content with such a shite manager and the cash flow still comes in, why should the Glazers act?

They were not. Hansi Flick was an internal promotion, Tuchel was sacked on 24th of December from PSG, went to Chelsea on 26th of January, so only one month later. Hardly Chelsea were planning the groundwork on getting him (like for example, City did with Guardiola).

In both cases, the club went for whatever they could do to save their season. The difference is that they acted at the right time.

Yeah i would ignore mod Wibble. This staff is too sensitive, does not understand a metaphor and loves united propaganda. I got a warning because apparently i was childish, but hey for months I've been expressing my view and i will continue to because nothing has changed. We live in a democracy so being warned for being childish just erodes any thought or freedom of speech. Literally the justification i was given, was pathetic.

Ole should never have had a new contract, we gave it him to keep a nicey nice feeling at the club. No player or manager is bigger than United and they will never be. Ole is tactically poor, always has been. Everyone knows the good he has done, but we need to stop living in the past and recognise what the future has.

I sympathize with your Ole out position (probably, cause I have been Ole out for like 2 years now), but Caf is not meant to be a democracy. It is a private forum owned by Niall, and moderated by many admins/mods. In general, if people don't find the way how it is run suitable for them, probably the best they can do is to find another forum. In that way, they can claim to have resigned, instead of being fired (banned).

For what is worth, I do not think that Caf has been anywhere near a dictatorship that polices what users can say. I am pretty sure that I have thousands of posts combined that are variants of Moyes/Ole out and never got an infraction for that.

I hear you. Perhaps some are guilty of exceptionalism etc, perhaps even the herd is. Would it make a difference to how the cash flows in the glazers acted? That's on a macro level though. I dunno. I don't think it's in the scope of either the thread or my knowledge. My point was, as an individual a fan may identify and choose how he wants to support the club. If that means giving the manager a longer leash, then so be it. They are as entitled to their views as I am mine, and I'm not going to call them idiots for it.

Doesn't mean they hadn't planned for the eventuality. Of course it's just guesswork as we both know nothing, but I'd imagine both Chelsea and Bayern knew more than a month out who their prime targets were if the manager had to go and were prepared to pull the trigger ahead of time. Whereas we just 'seem' to act on blind faith and don't do any succession planning. And not just with those sackings; you see every time they sack a manager, they generally have a plan. There's no 'spurs' moment which is what I suspect we'd have if we sacked our clown now. Of course, I could easily be talking out my arse as it's just speculation, but that's how I imagine it anyway.

Think after the Super League debacle and Woodward being relieved of duties, fans still have some weight in terms of opinion and might be considered by the management. But only when the majority unites against the idea. Still very much matter of interpretation, but surely one mechanism to send your point across.

As for the latter part, I agree, and never called any of our fans idiots based on their relentless idea of backing Ole all the way through(have to say have received some my way by members of the cult, but don't really care). You reap what you sow - if you want to bury your head in the sand so be it. The ones that should take the responsibility hiring a fraud and giving him 450m to spend should be the management who thought of that brilliant idea. And no way they should get away with saying just I'm sorry and get along with the next bad appointment.

And just to make it sure to get my point across. Ole the footballer and Ole the manager are two completely different persons and should be evaluated differently. One is a club legend for what he did as a player and the other I stand by it is a crap manager that walked into the job based on nepotism and not his own qualities as a manager.

Enough is enough even for me.
I just wish people would leave the personal insults against ole at the door. He’s still a red
I feel you. And I feel why you hate the cloud of negativity. (I'd argue that emotional [and perhaps irrational] negativity is part of supporting a club, but that's another matter). And there's always extremists who'll be utter buffoons (look at our prime minister and home secretary) - my argument then and now is it can't be the modmins job to define the level of negativity that's acceptable. Everybody has their own feelings and should be able to express them. Obviously insults etc need warnings, but changing topics titles to troll people [who are obviously emotional and upset] because you feel there's too much negativity and want to take the piss out of it, in my opinion, was incorrect.

That said, I'm sure the majority of caftards know you modmins are doing your best, and shit happens.

edit: Oops, was meant for @Wibble ! I suck at quoting the right guy :)

Perhaps. We'll see if their 'appointing an architect' etc to fix OT comes to anything or is just hot air. I don't trust them for shit! That said, I think the majority has been Ole out for quite some time, or at least 'Ole out soon' - they responded by extending his contract. So the question becomes, how do we get our point across to them to show it's a passionate majority opinion. (The superleague stuff, riots and invasions etc obviously spooked them, but I don't even see consistent booing for Ole.) Or is it more of a media thing; they read the mood in the media and that makes them act? Again I don't know how it works.

I do think by and large his spending hasn't been utterly disastrous. Especially this last summer; the players he brought in can be worked with. Time for him to feck off though (to put it kindly) and let a real manager manage them. I'm at the point where I can't even analyse if a player is useless, as the manager is so clueless.

If he is going to stay even another day, there needs to be some accountability to force him to stop rushing players back from injury and playing through injury etc to save his ass.

Not sure the fans can do much about this though, short of the scenes we saw over the super league!

What has the Board got to do with this result?

Fans wanted Sancho, at any cost, so we get Sancho, who is useless more or less.

Fans wanted C7, we sign C7, Fans wanted a better CB, we signed Varane, unfortunately injured.

The Board sanctioned practically 80% of all request, but we end up playing the same 11 of last season, C7 apart. Because someone famous said we must play our Best 11 every game, so Ole was so afraid to contradict. Injured players were rush back, I could understand the rationale behind Maguire's early return, but Rashford is clearly too soon. Pogba should have been started for the Liverpool game, for a bit more solid in middle, and perhaps slightly better defensive coverage on the left. So he was piss off and applied for an early exit. This is Pogba you know, who would be preparing for his early exit and big time season in Spain.

To me if you are shite at your job you should get booed out. Being legend of the club is completely irrelevant when you are inept at the job and you should be called out for. Media then will catch up.

I do think we have good individuals, but it's a complete meshups of styles. We literally don't have a good defence despite having spent the majority of those funds on it and Maguire/AWB could be a complete waste of space next year and in Maguire's case on 200k per week amids corona outbreak is a dead asset.

half of the team is more apt to play in conservative approach, half in more progressive type. We have positions that are covered by two players - Bruno/Pogba, Greenwood/Sancho and a big hole most probably next year at CF.

Naturally when you spend half a billion there will be some useful players, but I don't think we spent wisely - far from it.

On top of that our wage structure is larger than ever before and you still have players like Jones, Bailly, Martial, Mata, Matic, Jones, Pereira - all signing new contracts under Ole that are well beyond and above deadwood.

I mean Martial is on 250k per week. Mata 160k. Cavani 250k, Cristiano 510k, Jones and Bailly combined at around 150k and hardly playing. Matic 120k.

The list goes on and on. And people were moaning at Jose for Alexis.

“7 games” was always an incorrect interpretation anyhow. Our form this season (after playing just one top side)…

13 games, one good performance. Somehow just about beat Villareal and Atalanta, lost to feckign Young Boys, knocked out of the league cup by West Ham, beaten at home by Grealish-less Villa, held at home to strikerless Everton, spanked by Leicester, humiliated by Liverpool.

1 clean sheet among all those games too

Best thread on the caf this. Ages relly well
After 3 years of this shit football with no structure and absolutely zero evidence of consistency, we apparently were all just a bunch of moaning sods who couldn’t see the woods from the trees.
Been obvious for a long time that Ole isn’t a great coach and that nor does he have a set system or philosophy, and top sides simply must have great coaches with clear views on what they expect from every player in every position. “Shoot more” just won’t cut it here.

I took the defeat to Villarreal really hard and saw that as the moment to sack Ole. But after getting over it I felt confident going into the new season that Ole would grow into the job. How wrong I was.

Someone's probably mentioned it elsewhere but Gab Marcotti at ESPN noted that we've only 'won' before the 80th minute against Leeds and Newcastle. The remaining four wins (Wolves, West Ham, Villareal, and Atalanta) were 'United DNA' comebacks. Of course we might have pulled those off anyway if matches were shorter but it just points to the desperation, lack of control, and unsustainability of our approach thus far.

Oh please. United's squad isn't that bad as you make it look. What CB situation? Maguire, Varane, Lindelöf is absolutely quality. DM is a problem, yes, but nothing that could be fixed by a different setup.

The way I see it, United under Ole is now at a similar point like Bayern was under Kovac - quality squad, but so badly coached and lost faith that no one was able to still see that, not even Kovac himself. Sacked Kovac, promoted Flick, won 7 titles in the next 18 months.

Sack Ole, find your Flick and f*ing win something, it is about time and it is still possible this season, but not if United keep waiting for a miracle that won't happen.

Lindelof quality :houllier: he is not even bang average, not good enough for Premier league let alone Manchester United, our old 2nd string defenders like Brown and O'Shea were streets ahead of where Lindelof is, TBH they were better than Maguire is now..... we have rubbish CBs, rubbish to suggest otherwise is blind stupidity (am excluding Varane from that have not seen enough of him in a Utd shirt to pass judgement)

I think you are in for a surprise once United sign a quality coach to sort out this mess of a lacking system.
