How will Rangnick line up?

Don't think Rangnick has ever cared that much about specific formations. His overall philosophy is the most important thing so he'll probably just go for whatever formation suits our players best (including which players can respond to his pressing demands and which can't). I reckon we'll keep a 4-2-3-1 and could see us switching for specific games or based on form.

Imo, this will be the most likely 1st choice lineup with some players being rotated in and out naturally:

de Gea

Dalot Varane Maguire Shaw

VDB Fred

Sancho Bruno Rashford

Ronaldo
I think rb is the biggest problem in our team now. Honestly doubt Rangnick is thrilled at the prospect of playing either of AWB or Dalot. One is poor in attack, the other is poor in defence. If the players suited a 3 atb formation more I think he could try that with Dalot at rwb which could work better but with our current squad that doesn't make much sense. If VDB can adapt I think he could work well alongside Fred who imo will really excel under Rangnick. Doubt we see Pogba again. I don't see McTominay playing much except in the case of injury or fatigue (really just down to a lack of any other options in this position). I reckon Greenwood will be rotated in and out. His pace in particular will be useful, however he needs to improve his pressing massively. I've seen Rashford press effectively plenty of times before. Fully believe his lack of pressing recently is down to poor management. Uncoordinated pressing hurts a team more than it helps, you either press as a team or you don't press. Clearly our coaching staff had no idea what they were doing in this regard. I think we'll see major improvement from Rashford under Rangnick. Can't see him using Martial though I'm not sure we'll see any players actually sold while he's here since someone else will be coming in at the end of the season.

Ronaldo or Ragnick? I thought the poster meant Ragnick. (Staying on as consultant yes, but not as the manager.)
Rangnick is staying at the club and by all accounts will have a decision making role.

He won't be coming in to upset everyone and disappearing. Likewise the players will know he's moving upstairs but he's still going to be there.

Better for everyone.

Anyway Rangnick will not be bothered ruffling some feathers, but see it as his job.

If he keeps the 4222 he played at Leipzig a lot;

De Gea
AWB - Varane - Maguire - Shaw
Donny - Fred
Bruno - Sancho
Rashford - Ronaldo

I don’t think he’ll be particularly keen on any of the back 4 apart from Varane, none of whom can press high up the park.

Just because someone hasn’t played under a “modern manager”, whatever that means doesn’t mean he’s incapable of it. McTominay is by all accounts extremely easy to coach, Mourinho was praising him for this pretty much right away. He could easily be another favourite of Ralf’s like he has been with every manager he’s played under.
I'm just saying it's not unthinkable that VDB will be at an advantage actually having done a lot of the things he'll be asked to do.
But also, VDB can control and pass a football. McTominay has as terrible poor first touch and inaccurately passes sideways after taking too long on the ball. He's our homegrown Fellaini.

If every manager likes you and that list extends to awful, cowardly managers like Ole and Mourinho is that supposed to mean anything? Does it include the Scottish NT manager that favours average PL midfielders?

I don't know, even Telles is a bit suspect defensively though he is an improvement on Dalot. I think we need to get someone for this position in January.

I don't think this will happen, as AWB would be a disaster in that system

That's the thing with a good coach, they'll know how to highlight strengths. I think Greenwood will be preferred to rashford. His on the ball ability and his striking would make him impossible to drop. I would love to see him in a system where he gets constant supply.

I'm not sure about this pressing hipster stuff, but if it gets the players moving more then I'm all for it. There's nothing new in football.

I have thought this for a while actually. Great tackler . Good short passes loads of energy. With the right coach he could possibly work out there
There is absolutely no way a player as one footed and limited on the ball as AWB will succeed in any midfield position.

He. Cannot. Play. Football.

It's amazing people thinking someone whose footballing ability is exposed at FB can make a decent midfielder where there's no space and you need to pass well and quickly.

No idea. By all means we will be more progressive which is good to see. Let's hope we get into the CL places and build from then on.

I could see Bailly maybe getting games ahead of Maguire. Could see him improving Fred, VDB, Sancho, Rashford. Think he’ll get Rashford to stop shooting from all over. Interesting to see what he does with Mason. Could see Martial possibly getting better under him. Hannibal getting some games would be interesting. Think Ronaldo might be an issue.
Why?

Maguire is a decent defender in bad form. Bailly plays one game like Maldini, then the rest of the season he is one kick away from an Injury, Own Goal, booking or all 3. Bailly Is another cult of personality at UTD

AWB
Maguire
Varane
Shaw

VDB
Fred

Bruno
Sancho

Cavani
Rashford

Ronaldo will still play a lot with cavani’s poor injury record.

Some sort of clever diamond when in attack and defence with the front 6.

Van de Beek's best season for Ajax was as a No.10, so, naturally, Rangnick is going to play him in a double pivot and mold him into the next Pirlo. Or do you guys see him as the next N'Golo Kante?

He said he works on 5 areas mainly.

What to do with the ball
What to do without the ball
Transition as soon as you win the ball
Transition as soon as you lose the ball
Set pieces

All sounds good to me.

This but with Greenwood in place of Rashford. He's the better striker by a distance and could be a world-beater in the right system.

VDB is best as a 6 or 8 at this club, he's never going to cut it as a 10 for a top side.

Agreed. If we could find a way to supply Ronaldo and Greenwood with regular chances we could threaten the very best.

That's identical to LVG's approach.

He prefer a high line with fast ballplaying CBs and good offensive fullbacks. Im pretty sure he will want to strenghten the RB, CB, and CM positions. A new striker (maybe false 9?) will also be a priority in a year or so.

For now: 4222

De Gea
Dallot - Varane - Lindelof - Shaw
Donny - Fred
Bruno - Sancho
Rashford - Ronaldo

Why is Rangnick going to force Dalot to change the way he spells his own name?
