He needs a more attacking role. Honestly there are scores of players around Europe who can give you exactly the same or much better than Donny does in a deep role, where he can be effective is using his good movement and touch around the box, getting goals and assists.
A rich man's Lingard, you mean?

Folks… Van de Beek + Alli is a MFs combo loan you are not even allowed to dare on Football Manager.

Probably just needs another loan from Everton to prove himself as the world class player he is. And then a series of progressively worse loans to lower and lower clubs, all in the same season, like some massive Russian doll type scenario. And then he moves back to Ajax for £14m, scores two goals against Volendam and this place goes apeshit.
This post needs more love :)

People laughed when I compared him to Cleverley when it looked like we were signing him. Everyone was caught up in the buzz.

I'm sorry, I was wrong. That was an insult to Cleverley.

There was a time people were seriously suggesting that VDB could play 6, 8 or 10 and should be shoehorned into the Utd midfield.

He got better in people's minds by not playing. The fact is most had barely seen him play beyond seeing a couple of high profile goals in the CL, probably the same for our scouts.

Well the weirdest thing was they thought he could play as a deep CM in PL. There is a reason why two different managers with different skill sets didn't fancy him at all let alone playing him at 6.

I for one, am shocked he's also not good enough for Everton. Dont you know he scored those goals in the CL 3 years ago?!

Until I see him, Klaassen and Guus Til in a room together I remain convinced they are the same person.

I tried telling people his cl performances were overrated. He may have scored or made an assist but his general play was appalling. De Jong carried the entire midfield.

De Jong, Ziyech even Lasse Schöne was fecking brilliant that campaign. Van de Beek was a tiny, if useful cog in that machine. He doesnt fit in any others though.

When I first saw your username, I assumed you were a Van De Beek fanboy(girl?). Then I saw some of your posts slating him and got confused. It now makes sense

This is one of the strangest transfers we've ever made.
It certainly is.
Can only imagine it was a strange "safety net" in case Pogba went, which has looked decently possible for the last couple of seasons, but dressed up in a sheepish "stronger squad" sense since.

But Pogba stayed, so the plan changed, and then the massive issue that his best position is where Bruno plays made it utterly breathtaking.

The only one I can see as odd, is when we bought Kagawa, to play off Rooney, then the plan changed with Van Persie became available. Leaving Kagawa pretty underused.
But the underuse of Donny for his fee is something else.

DVB is the least of our problems now. He is not here and would be sold in the summer and now with Arsenal winning, we need to win all of our games and Arsenal to lose some.

What a weird signing. Always thought he could do something here but it seems he’s not up to the task.

Not many Ole signings have been good in the long run. Adds yet another manager to the list post fergie who’s failed to recruit well.

  • "Dreadful this lad today. When you're in the doo dò you dont need Klassen mk2, schneidrrlin mk 2 , sigurdsson mk2 out there"

He needs this... he needs that... only if the players around him...

Who believes this shit? Have you ever played football?

If a player is good, he will shine anywhere. If a professional player joins us in Sunday league, what do you think will happen? Is he going to be shit because everyone around him is a useless, slow 50+ year old? Or is he going to be the best player around by miles?

To be fair to him, he's played under two of the worst coaches the Premier League has ever seen.

I remember Kaveh Solhekol claiming we were getting an 80 million player for 40 million.

Another midfielder that was “miles better” than Fred and McT? Just isn’t true is it? We need aggressive people to win the midfield for us. He’s just far too passive. A nice player in theory but this league has become a war where you need to out work the opposing number and impose your game on them. You are getting the runaround otherwise
He isn't a midfielder, that's the problem. @DWelbz19 said it best on the previous page.

From 2:00. Beek knows we overpaid but this other guy trying to make it sound like the bargain of the century. I swear these cnuts at Sky Sports never watch any of these foreign players and just base their opinions on youtube compilations and social media hype generated from those compilations.

If you have seen him regularly at Ajax, that's how his form has been. Some matches, very good, other matches, not so good.
I always found him frustrating.he is okay as backup but not a starter, imho.

This gives a solid indication over the actual quality we have here. We always seem to think players who leave here would be stars in lesser teams, yet the table speaks for itself moreso than people realize. This is shown by the performance of the players we have sold or loaned out over the last few years. None of them have gone on to star at teams after they left outside of Lingard. That speaks volumes.

There's some players who will always have excuses made for them.
They come from specific leagues where a specific system catered to their strengths.

One thing about United, our greatest weakness imo, we don't know how to let things go.

Chelsea, City and Liverpool have had lots of poor signings over the almost ten years we have been struggling to get back on top.

However, unlike United, once they realize how poor those players are, they don't give them many chances to redeem themselves. They take their losses and sell/loan the player. They get a transfer fee or get them off their wages partially and move on to sign a worthy player for their squad.

United and its fans however sign players and look for any signs of quality in the player, regardless of how many poor performances they have ( this includes young players too). Rashford and Martial literally both played consistently in 2017 and 2018 despite barely having any good performances. Yet when Mourinho signed Sanchez, instead of being happy about getting in a quality player ( at least what we thought at the time), some of our fans were more worries about how Rashford/Martial would develop. No other big club thinks like that. If you're good enough, you're old enough...not if you are young, you'll get an automatic opportunity. Arsenal made the same mistake with Diaby's Wilshere's and Traore's of this world. Getting sentimental, not signing players when these players were injured, in hope that they could give a potential chance to a young player they bought.

Fergie never did this. The only time he did anything close to that was with Forlan, as Forlan was performing, but was not scoring goals. Giggs was an instant performer, but he also had Kanchelskis and Lee Sharpe down the flanks in case. Beckham had to perform consistently to stay in the team. Scholes did not become a proper starting player until 97/98. Rooney was already a superstar that had proven himself before we signed him. Ronaldo was not an automatic starter when he came into the team. Since Fergie left, in trying to emulate his teams, we've almost been dogmatic in giving opportunities to young players and transfers that show an inkling of talent. Just like any company, Fergie identified the level of talent the player had once they reached his squad, and played them accordingly. Players like Park, Brown, Silvestre, Sheringham were at one point signed to be first team players, they proved not to be for the majority of time they were here ( Sheringham had the good 2001 season), so they became squad players. Players like Djemba-Djemba, Bellion, Poborsky etc who proved not be United quality were move on quickly.

He had a bad bad game, everton had an awful game. Lampard has been trash since he joined. We decided to loan a player who had not played in 2 years, has no confidence, barely any match fitness, to a team that has similar traits. I had hoped for the best but in reality his stock has started to fall. I may be in my own park, i watched the guy from youth, but i believe there is a player there still. He is a player that needs a hug or two. Looking back RR has no time to hug him, lampard has no time to hug him. For his sake, he needs to get out of England and reignite himself. I do believe Ole ruined him.

Edit: saying that, donny is a victim of his own decision making. He should have chosen Newcastle or Palace.

He doesn't need a hug, he needs a kick in the arse and to be told to stop feeling sorry for himself and show he has a spine.
