Happy to see Max and Horner get nothing out of today, long may it continue but I doubt it will. Will be great when Mercedes fix their issues and we have 3 teams fighting it out for podium finishes.

Hopefully McLaren can turn it around soon, two good drivers who need to be up there as well.

In the short term yes. In the mid-term I think they'll be loving these points and the huge gift they've been given as they inevitably catch up.
I wouldn't say it's as inevitable as it was last season. Last season they were already the fastest car in Portugal and Spain. Their engine was comfortably the best engine. McLaren and Aston Martin were competitive, Russell was sneaking into some top 10 shootouts in qualy in the Williams.

Whereas now the 6 lapped cars are all Mercedes powered.

E10 is piss water and I don't trust any engine that runs well on that.

But they will catch up, I hope not enough to unseat the Ferraris though. The sport needs them back on top this season imo.

The hate for Verstappen from Brits is funny and pretty pathetic, it’s like you’re trying to create a persona that doesn’t exist. Verstappen is likeable (check his followers), he is interesting, he is perfect for the sport.

Have to say, this race has been incredibly boring before the Red Bulls shutting down. Hope they haven’t spoilt the sport by creating too many new things, it all seems less speedy, less exciting, a bit slower and controlled.

Props to Ferrari for creating a car that is obviously much better than the others, didn’t see that coming. Mercedes look like they are in for a really bad season, certainly didn’t see that coming.

So damn happy for Magnusson and Haas.
Mazepin must be absolutely raging knowing Haas used him to help finance a great car while he had to drive the worst car on the grid in the meantime, and then they just binned him when the great car was ready

I wouldnt base it on followers, base it on how popular he is with the other drivers. Max gets on well with all his ex team mates, is close mates with Lando, gets on well with the likes of Seb and Alonso, while Hamilton by comparison looks a total Billy nae mates because of how aloof he is.

Just an example, but Hamilton is the only driver who refuses to take part in the Secret Santas, christ even Kimi took part in those.

You don’t have to be British to dislike Max, there are plenty of reasons. The sun doesn’t shine out of his arse you know.

If you don't like the driver I like you're pathetic.

How does followers translate to being likable? Luiz Suarez has over 40m on Instagram, to Verstappen's 8m, does that make him 5 times more likable?

As for the race, I didn't find it boring at all, really interesting to see how teams performed, plenty of position changes, fighting at the front, in the midfield, and at the tail end.

FERRARI 1-2, get the feck in!!!

I think an enormous amount of salt might have something to do with it.
Yeah great race from Ferrari, impressive car they've built themselves with good drivers to boot.

And yeah I get that Merc/Hamilton fans are angry about last season but it really seems like all that anger is now being channeled into absolute hatred towards Red Bull with very one sided, petty and childish arguments. People even loving that Mercedes tweet, really? Bit rich. I had hoped this season would be a bit of a fresh start of sorts but it seems nothing's changed. On the contrary, looks like it's gotten even worse.

Watching Ted's Notebook and he said the fuel pump is a standard component shared by all teams so I guess that failure was kind of out of their hands.

So the Dutch fans never stoop low enough to boo Lewis Hamilton then.
Someone here is having a sense of humour failure.

Not always the case… just because it’s standard doesn’t mean it isn’t being pushed to its limit, being run out of spec or packaged in a way that compromises it.

Glad Ferrari won and Red Bull lost. I don't mind Max but Horner can go do one.

Jury is still out on the new rules. The race was a bit dull somehow despite plenty of position changes, and F1 with 3 competitive teams should be great.

It's funny, I was never a fan Hamilton because of the way he moaned behind the wheel but I have learned pretty much all drivers do the same, he just had more exposure. The way he handled the debacle at the end of last season (with pure class), I can't help but have respect for him. He genuinely seems like a great guy. While I was pulling for the Red Bull team last season (to shake things up), I really hope they collapse this season. And those Ferrari cars are just fantastic looking.

Awful race really.. A couple of DRS attempts at passing - I thought the whole point of the new regs was to eventually get rid of that ridiculous "help to overtake" system?! Nobody else really did much. Pretty, pretty, pretty dull!

This is a very weird take. Not seen anyone else really say anything other than decent race. There was lots of action all over, racing exists beyond p1 and p2.

As for the regs, this is the starting point, they will be amended repeatedly and the plan is to eventually take it away yeah.

i was wondering how being champion would effect verstappen. for some, reaching the top of the mountain just means you’ve got to reach the top of the next one again. for others, once you reach the summit it’s all downhill from there. i was eager to see whether verstappen would be a hamilton or a rosberg. not even finishing in the top 10 of his first race as champion kind of confirms that already. at least moyes finished 7th.

Verstappen would have finished 2nd and was battling for the lead in the last few laps. What more do you expect? He didn't build the fuel pump or whatever it is that crapped out on the Red Bull cars.

Max's pre race interview on Channel 4s coverage just now is cringe. The guy has no self awareness or humility. Especially considering his asterix, he is in complete denial about last year, I think he genuinely thinks he won it fairly.

Watching catch up on channel 4 since I missed the race on sky today. Watching this Max interview, it’s such a shame Horne is his team lead. It’s rubbing off on him.

Interviewer asked him how he would have felt of roles were reversed, his response was (or words to the effect of cos I can’t remember verbatim) “I’d have been happy because I would have been lucky to be in that fight”.

so now he’s not even manufacturing the parts for his own cars like all the other drivers? i’ve only caught snippets so far and i know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but hamilton has been saying things like “we’ve got a lot of work to do back at the factory to get us to where we want to be” highlighting how he builds all his own parts and blames his own shoddy workmanship for his current plight. i now hear verstappen isn’t even building his car and just pootles around the track allowing people to overtake him willy nilly whilst his team mate does doughnuts in the middle of the race for the lols.

It's funny you say this. As a kid, I followed F1 in the 80's, but when I moved to the States followed NASCAR (from the early 90's on). Getting back into F1, I was stunned at how much customization is in those cars (design, engine parts and everything). It's amazing how much manufacturing goes into it (vs NASCAR where they buy almost everything from the manufacturers).

Yea couldn’t agree more. You don’t have to love everyone and it’s fun with a little back and forth but the level in here is so incredibly childish at times.

What's wrong with that? With all luck equalised the title battle would have been over before Brazil.

Truth like rain don't give a feck who it falls on.
I can't believe I watched a Haas finish 5th, incredible. Really disappointed with Mclaren, and glad that it turned out as I thought, Ferrari up there and Merc not too far behind that by the time they sort their car out they can still be competitive. Hopefully we can see a 3 horse race this year.

Lewis was winning the gp and would have finished first if massi hadn't made up rules on the last lap.... what more do you expect... he didn't misinterprate the rules or go full on cheating whichever it was that made him do what horner told him

Would have been two top 10’s if not for Ocon on lap 1.

I can't wait to see Steiner on next years DTS. I always felt so sorry for him having to deal with Grosjean/Magnussen fighting each other, then fighting for sponsorships, then having the whole Mazepin situation. You could tell he'd been told by his team to defend Mazepin when he came out and said the colours weren't for Russia, and Mazepin wasn't an oligarch. His weekly phone calls with Gene about how bad they all looked and then boom first race his team are 3rd in the constructors. If they keep up their strong form all season and finish in the midfield with the money they'll get next year, I feel really happy about that.

If you are going to post terrible memes, at least do it on anything other than dialup.
I'm concerned you may not understand how the internet works.

Either way, I'm sure as hell glad I changed my fantasy F1 constructor from Red Bull to Ferrari at the 11th hour.
