Holland are playing some good football, makes me wonder what we’d of been like if we stayed with LVG. He’s always said aswell with time he’d of got us playing like city do. With the right players under LVG we could of played a possession attacking brand of football.
He says a lot of things. Club football is totally different and his football was awful. He claimed it was attacking because we had the ball but it was a lot of stale possession.

I'm actually kinda supporting Macedonia: if we qualify we will have to bare with Fernando Santos until the rest of his contract.
I'm with you. I don't want to watch the World Cup and when I saw what that goal meant to Macedonia I thought to myself, ''I'd be happy if we lose to them''.

Very entertaining game. Berghuis at 10 gives us a lot more creativity going forward. Really wish we'd replace Blind though, someone that slow has no place as a wingback in the modern game.

Not even that. People have spent forever moaning about kane dropping back (and he has a higher assist rate than Rooney, btw), and you're here suggesting he's stood around like Lineker tapping in and doing nothing else. It doesn't flatter your status on a football forum.

Pickford is never going to be dropped from England unless he starts playing shit for them. It’s frustrating because his problem is mental/ego based and all it does is inflated his ego which means when he comes back to us he’s dropping clangers still.

He drops back because he's shit scared of decent defenders mate.
Where was he last summer against Italy?
He chased the ref around the field in a friendly yesterday, desperate for his dubious pen as he knew he wasn't scoring otherwise.

Much better in extra time. Poland is favorites I say, but it will be tight.

Just need to hope Lewandowski has a quiet game as he often has for the national side.
I would still say Sweden are favourites. There's still a decent enough gap between the games. Sweden are much better at getting results than Poland are. Poland just got a new coach who had his first game that day.

Looks like it'll be a tight game with one goal by Sweden in a crunch moment.

Fun stats:
Zlatan 62 goals for Sweden
Rest of Swedish squad together: 62 goals
Fun fact: Lewandowski easily has more goals than that in lesser games for a weaker national team.

Lewandowski has played more games, more minutes and their minutes/goal ratio is somewhat similar at 133 m/g vs 143 m/g.

Who had the stronger team around him also debatable, for a while Poland were pretty good (relatively speaking), with internationally recognized players such as Szczesny, Pisczek, Blaszczykowski, Glik, Krychowiak, Zielinski and Milik.

I'm surprised at the number of games. Zlatan has played for so so long. How does he have lesser games??? Is it because of the contrasting injury records the two have??

It has been painful enough watching our team play this ugly football under this manager. If we are going to play defensively it's much better for North Macedonia to go instead.

I am all for Macedonia, but come on guys, be realistic here a bit. They have to win twice in five days away to Italy and Portugal. Possibility of that is simply too low. I wouldn't bet on Brazil, Germany, England, Spain or pretty much anyone to string these two wins together.

Macedonia is pretty much like Bosnia, most of the time they were even weaker than us. We have never beaten a top footballing side, had draws here and there but have never won against teams like Portugal and Italy in meaningful competitive game. Macedonia has beaten Germany last year and has beaten Italy now. How realistic is it to expect them to add another huge win to that string?

You're basically arguing that their success in previous games makes success in future games unlikely. Which is not very logical to put it nicely.

Well I think having got that one win they will have gained confidence. I think they will be up for the fight. I think they got bigger chance vs Portugal than vs Italy.

Portugal big favorites, but we have seen Portugal fail vs weaker sides before. There is a reason why Italy and Portugal are not directly qualified and that is they are not as solid at beating weaker sides as England,Belgium etc.

Well I guess it's not only a footballing perspective, but yes, it is quite likely that they can't pull off another mini miracle.

And yes, I do agree they will have more confidence against Portugal, but it will have to be one of the biggest upsets in footballing history for them to also knock Portugal out.

I have seen the Italy game, they also rode their luck for good parts of it. That is bound not to happen again in such short time span.

System is completely wrong, nobody should have to knock out Italy and Portugal in straight away games to earn the right to participate in World Cup.

Poortugal are there, because they couldn't outperform Serbia, Italy was there, because they couldn't get past the Swiss. It's not the system that's broken, two favorites just messed up their group games.

And naturally the Macedonians will need some luck to get past Portugal, but the fact that they already had some luck against Italy has no bearing on that, beyond giving them some confidence maybe.

Ultimately it's a one off game. Would've been interesting if this had been played in Skopje but with home advantage I'd still back Portugal.

Doubt Macedonia would have more chance if they'd played one of Italy or Portugal in a two legged play off as happened previously. I know Sweden knocked out Italy in that format in 2017 but that was a vastly experienced team used to play offs.

I like this format personally. Shame with the ongoing war we're going to have to wait until June at the very earliest for the Wales section to be completed.

No team in particular.

Well, basically Italy went to play-offs due to Jorginho missed penalties against Switzerland.
They actually played pretty good football and dominated, unlike Portugal.

It can happen though, sometimes players miss a crucial penalty, it was very weird to see Jorginho missing penalties(he is very good at them), but it happened...this is Football.

I don't think Macedonia will beat Portugal, they will need some massive luck to do it.
They already had luck against Italy, i don't think they will have luck two times in a row.
I can see Portugal scoring fast, and Macedonia crumbling when looking for the equalizer, macedonian attackers seemed very limited going forward, and lost the ball easily due to lack of quality.
Italy midfield is obviously much better than Portugal, but Portugal has Cristiano who is a much better finisher than Immobile(who has been useless for Italy).

When Zlatan signed for United he also took a break from the NT. It was relatively recently he was convinced to come back and I think he has only started about 3 games in the last 6 years. Up until the injury he got at United, he had a fairly injury free career. Then Zlatan has skipped more friendlies over the years than Lewandowski has.

Denmark's Skov Olsen looks like a really interesting right winger. Anyone on here that knows more about him?

Good talent. His close control is pretty exquisite. He could be really great under right coaching. It's no surprise he looks fantastic for Denmark under the guidance of Hjulmand. Denmark's next generation is quite exciting.

Salah or Mane in the World Cup will be decided in the next couple of hours.

He seems to be doing very well at Club Brugge based on his stats.

Yeah that was a good move for him. He had a less impressive spell in Italy. Glad he left. I actually think a club like Ajax is where he could end up in the next 18-24 months.

I said it after the first leg. The second leg will end badly. They're miles ahead of us.

Oh well. At least the goal came early so I won't be very disappointed by a shocking result.

It's not gonna be shocking because there'll barely be any football played in the rest of the game.

Probably end up 2 or 3 for Senegal at most.
