Players given the rope in my view have been those who either have more than 6 months remaining or are players who might think they are good enough to stay / entitled to a new contract at united - e.g. Maguire, McTominay
Rangnick on McTominay:
"He is an Academy boy, [and] his energy is amazing. He's now also started scoring goals, and also with some leadership skills. I wouldn't be surprised if, in a couple of years, he would be the captain of this team." - January 2022

Rangnick on McTominay and Maguire:
"Scotty and Harry, they are important players and players with the right attitude."

Rangnick on Maguire:
"He’s been a very valuable player and the captain of the team and the club and he is also my captain. I didn’t understand what was going on actually at Wembley, but I’m pretty sure this will not happen in our stadium with the Red Army behind the team and the club, and also behind their captain. For me, he’s a very important player, he’s been playing well for Manchester United and for England in the last couple of years."

"Harry played well and he had an almost flawless game today defensively. It was a solid performance by him."

Is this supposed to be reverse psychology or something? Ralf's great plan is to play bad players and praise them in public and say the fans should get behind them.... so that the club bins them?

He doesn't hate the players or wants to show them up or whatever. He's just a manager trying to manage a team.

I'd put money on the board thinking all the coaches including Carrick would have stayed on till the end of the season at least.

Further to this with it being in the middle of the season and it only being interim gig it would be hard to persuade good coaches from settled positions to come in for a 6 month stint hardly his fault
Hardly whose fault?

Let's not forget the whole requirement for such a short term interim is eds fault in the first place. Ole should have gone long before (and never hired in the first place). Also we could have got conte for 18 months

Hmmm. Money + CL used to be a pretty good appeal. Now we only have one of those for some reason.

The whole point of him as an interim was getting results this season. The board thought it was a good choice and it clearly hasn't been.

The consultancy thing being a big deal afterwards has always been just wishful thinking.
They thought a guy whose best season was about 15 years ago at Schalke and was currently working in a technical director role in Russia was going to get the best results on the pitch this season? Not sure about that.

John Murtough isn’t some newbie football director who needs his hand held by Ralf for the next two years. From what I’ve read in the media, Murtough has followed him closely and spoken many times together.

I imagine they agree on a lot of principles and the ways of working, so therefore Ralf isn’t needed on a day to day basis. I bet Ralf has said you can’t just copy what I did at the Red Bull clubs, you need to put your spin on it with how it works in England but I’ll be here if you want my advice or guidance on it.

And if we hire Paul Mitchell, then Ralf really can take that backseat consultancy role, as Mitchell has worked closely with Ralf at Leipzig.

How does he unite a squad that's checked out? Clearly this is not a job one can do in 6 months? As far as I know he hired a few experts for improving mental health of the players. I seriously doubt if there was no one in that capacity till date but still, you can see whats missing with these appointments!
People still parroting this bollocks. How can a team that was still in the CL, FA cup and in the race for top 4 check out?

If anything when Carrick came in you could see the team was hungry, which continued early into Rangnick's reign.

Many of you have your heads in the sand but Rangnick was incapable of galvanising the dressing room and he played a big part in that, he's an atrocious man manager.

So they actively chose worse results instead?

They didnt want Conte, you cant attack the board and say they dont have a long term plan or vision and then when they do have a plan and vision attack them for implementing the plan, it was clear from the off they didnt want Conte you can argue pros and cons about that but it was clear he wasnt part of their plan in the long term or the short term just because he was available doesnt mean he would be the correct choice.

and i meant Ralf you cant blame him for the coaches leaving and then not being able to get top class replacements as an interim

Early into his reign about 30 minutes against Palace you mean, the next game against Norwich the players were a shambles and very lucky to win and then the next game against Newcastle again a disaster the players were not showing anything after that 1st game at all.

Rangnick does shoulder some blame absolutely but dont make stuff up and say the players have always performed for him because they havent.

I don't have an issue with that all. They deserve it
Oh, they deserve criticism, yes. But that is behind closed doors or in the dressing room. It’s a thrown boot (ha). It’s not airing dirty laundry in the press to make the manager look good. You sit the players that need a reality check. You keep it close to the vest with the press because you don’t know when you’ll need those players to step up.

The Ralf **** thinks he “talks straight” and appreciate the honesty. Ok, fine. As a fan maybe that is refreshing. But publicly blaming the players, decreases asset values pissing off the board. We know tactics are at least somewhat to blame for the performances. The players know this. Ralf isn’t out there, fighting for them, taking arrows.

Again, Ralf’s thought was “If I can turn around United, I’ll get a fat contract, maybe permanent manager. If I don’t, I can use it to get the feck out of Russia.”

You accuse me of making up stuff yet that's what you're doing here. I said the players were still hungry and hadn't checked our from the beginning of his reign. The performances were not great but we were playing well for one half then losing our way in the 45mins. Nowhere did I say they've always performed for him.

The wheels started coming off a few weeks into this tenure.

The man talks a good game and I admire his honesty. What he says I think most fans would agree with. He's honest and blunt in his assessments and obviously understands that this club and team need a big overhaul.

However, he often speaks like he's a passive observer as opposed to someone who's, you know, in a position of power. I get that he's only interim, but it always struck me as odd how he spoke as if he was looking from the outside in. Almost like a pundit would talk, really.
That’s pretty much my issue with Ralf and this adoration of him in the fanbase.

Maybe Rangnick is a fraud, but why couldn't top managers like Van Gaal and Mourinho manage to make the team play well together when they got more time than Rangnick? You are in for a shock if you think United's issues will be fixed in 4 - 5 months. Ever since SAF left, the same problems have existed irrespective of the manager. The managers have been a scapegoat for the owners, board, and players. It's not about Rangnick fanboys or whatever, you need to realize that the problems aren't only with the manager; bloated salaries for players who aren't consistent, players who don't perform getting chances over and over again while good players like Van De Beek do not get any chances, players leaking information, 0 teamwork, signing players randomly without a plan, focusing more on commercial stuff, clueless chairman (Woodward), ex-players getting involved. All the above managers you mentioned above would need at least half a season or full season to make the team play well and according to the manager's philosophy, the manager is also responsible for the issues I mentioned above but the manager isn't responsible for all of the issues. SAF won his first trophy at United in his third season for us, not in his first or second season. Kloop got Liverpool into the top 4 in his second season for them and the other managers you are talking about never had to manage a team that was managed for 25 years by one manager.
Well it’s hard following the greatest manager ever. You have to have a world class organization, and the Glazers are a train wreck. I’ve said many times that the Glazers are the problem, there is no leadership. SAF provided that… maybe Ten Hag will, God I hope so. Jose did, but the game had changed so much his tactics weren’t good enough.

To me, Rangnick is just another mistake in a long string of mistakes post SAF. These decisions are ultimately made by the Glazers, so they carry a lot of the blame. But the Glazers are like the village idiot — they are stupid, impulsive, live in the now and aren’t strategic. Blaming them is difficult because they’ll never learn from their mistakes.

Basically a sounding board and contact book in Europe. We were never going to become one of the Red Bull model clubs. Just hope Fletcher, Murtough and Arnold have and will take things on board and are competent.
His consultancy role is sounding less significant by the day, hoped it would have been a prominent role but can't say I'm shocked either.

Ralf Rangnick could tell you the specifications of his favourite model of shredder vs it’s competitors.

In fact, maybe Ralf’s role is actually to advise on the club stationary. There’s nobody in the game I’d trust more with such a humongous task.
Well I hear we've been poorly run on the admin side post SAF as well. A few years ago we didn't even have a working fax machine.

The players were hungry and had not checked out? The same players that have been awful reason why Ole was sacked, these are the same players who were losing to watford 4-1 and you think they were hungry? Wow

Maybe you meant Shaw was hungry.

When was it ever mentioned he is going "upstairs"? It was always a consultancy role, I assume you are aware what that means.
By Ralf, the club or anyone who works for the club probably never but on here it must have been said thousands of times over the last 6 months.

Exactly, so he was never going to be part of the club full time, it was always a consultancy role.

There's no point talking about Ralf as a manager because he failed and failed miserably, and he's not going to be our manager next season so who cares. He was shit, that's about it.

The problem is this magical consultancy role that some here actually do believe he's going to play a part in the club's renaissance which is hilarious.

Every day it appears it's a complete bullshite job but some are trying so hard to convince themselves otherwise.

It's the hope that kills, no other reason for ignoring everything that points to how it'll pan out and try to feel positive about the whole thing.

He's going to come to the club a week every month (or probably won't even come, phones do exist anyway) to give some opinions about transfers which the club will straight up throw them in the nearest rubbish can especially if they contradict what Ten Hag likes. Otherwise he'll focus on his national team job.

But sure keep on believing he's going to be the one orchestrating United return to the top.

He should just sign up to the caf if he wants to talk about it rather than actually do something.

Eh? What are you talking about?

When Ten Hag has us pressing from the front and playing out from the back with largely the same players that are here this season, of course it will be all due to Rangnick and his consultancy.

United Board committed another costly mistake by appointing Ralf as interim. He is absolutely second grade as a manager, but they were taken in by his tall talk.

He’s definitely Mr Chuckles.
City, Liverpool and Chelsea are definitely more attractive places to go right now. In fact they're among the best in Europe.

United will find it very tough to pull high class players away from these teams unless the player really wants United.

I don't think Arse and Spurs are miles ahead of us though.

Yea but why is this genius going public with it? Or is this “reasoning to players to choose us because we’re not that good” part of his consultancy job?

Yes, I'm pretty sure we'll see other people defending his managerial and coaching ability.

"The players didn't try for Ralf" "If only poor Ralf had a pre-season he could have done this" etc. etc.

Yes the Borussia Dortmund model of footballing stewardship is the one we ought to be replicating. That is if we had the right hierarchy in place to competently run the club from top to bottom. Stop buying name brand players and focus on younger hungrier talents with the appetite to prove themselves on the big stage.

Absolutely true. And don’t forget Ole. They all have a role to play in this.

You do know interim mangers carry less sway on players than perm right? And guarunteed wel see 4 or 5 new players in and at least 10 out. The dressing room will be completely different.

They probably are ahead of us because people (particularly foreigners) are more attracted to the idea of being in London because, well, they don’t realise how crap London is.

It’s an issue we’ve always faced to some degree. If we’re in a similar position to a London club we’ll have a difficult time convincing them to choose us.
