He always puts the effort in, he doesnt hide behind excuses, doesnt whinge or complain, comes across well and carign in interviews.

I am not a fan, never rated him as a player, always found it hilarious people on here comparing him to Rice even three years ago, always been light years apart.

But next season with a cull and incomign players, I feel we definately need behind the very few players of quality we have, a core of players with the right attitude that really care about the club, not there own image within it (Rashford, Lingard for example). I think that is vital wthin the dressing woom within the short term and that is why liek I said I would keep him in the short term
Except he doesn't put the effort it. He talks about effort, and has a reputation for effort because he has no other qualities.

People laugh at me when I say I want JWP who is only a year older than this mook. Seriously, this guy just gives fouls away and points a lot.

Should be on the bench at Hibernian, not starting for Manchester United.

How on earth has he managed to play this much for us?

Idiots in our sporting structure. Midfield was the weak link when we finished 3rd, midfield was the weak link when we finished 2nd and yet it has never been addressed. I bet he is still an important squad member next season instead of fringe or sold.

Showing up for passes is part of the effort and when it comes to that, no one hides more than him

Exactly. He just joggs around and does silly fouls which fans these days compare with passion. Ridiculous really...

For all respect I have to McTominay, but the quality he's performing atm is only suitable for English league One or Two. Even Championship level is too much for him to carry. I can not imagine how bad our youngster development for can not raise a decent player who can replace such low quality player.

Really? I couldn't help but seem him caught wrong side time and time and time again

Was he booked? If not should have been the amount of fouls he committed to bail himself out

Like Maguire he's had an absolutely woeful season that really brings into question his long term future at the club

Future United captain according to Rangnick. Hopefully ten Hag will see things differently.

Personally disagree, think he puts the effort in, he simply isnt intellgient enough to read play and track runners that he goes missing often. Im not defending him, never rate him like I said. I just think he is one of the few that hasnt downed tools, but yes, not many tools to down, dont disagree there

Cool.

One (player's performance) thread isn't enough to lambast and tear a player apart, so create a thread whose sole intention it is is to lambast and tear a player apart

Awesome fan work.

Maybe our lowest EPL final position and most conceded. All because of McTominay. Totally. </Sarcasm>

For all his limitations, at least Fred has some strengths in ball-winning and pressing. There's something to work with there for Ten Haag.

I just don't see what McTom does. He's an average passer, his positioning is complete guesswork, he couldn't dribble if his life depended on it and he has the ball control of a circus elephant on rollerskates.

He brings height, blondeness and Scottishness to the team, and that's about it.

When he first came through he was surprisingly quick for his size, covered ground well, made him an interesting prospect despite his issues. That is gone now, his movement is laboured, finds it very hard to get back when caught up the pitch or to close down under control leading to constant clumsy fouls.

Surely he doesn't even become a squad player assuming we have a half decent rebuild and we stop giving out long expensive contracts. There just nothing to him, and he's 25. Could do well in the championship maybe but that's about it, just not a premier league player.

Where'd you get your stats?

Not saying they are wrong, but they are completely different than whoscored.

It says McTominay made 0 tackles (but made 5 fouls  ), while Matic and Fred both made 3 tackles each despite only being on the field for 45 minutes each. Dalot also made 3.

It was whoscored, but they are all changed now. Scott is on 0 while Matic is on 3. Maybe it wasnt updated correctly straight after the game.

If thats the case, Scott had 0 and had an even worse game

His effort is well below average for a midfielder as well. We're just comparing him to Matic and Pogba so he has more legs than them, but most teams we face in the league have midfielders who sprint, press and just show more effort in general than he does. We regularly see opposition players get in behind him and he just slowly jogs back with no urgency.

In Danish you can call someone an ‘alibi player’. Basically, someone who is average or below, but tries his hardest to seem like they are putting in a performance.

McTominay fits that term perfectly.

He shouldn't even be a squad player next season. Which club can we trick into taking him? And by that, I mean give him away for free and pay half his wages for the remainder of his contract.

Week in week out he plays in our midfield. Not even a Scottish international in that position. I'll never understand that

Please tell me he hasn’t give it the big un in the post match interviews

Scott McTominay is the logical end result of the criminal transfer policy that had happened with United in the past 20 years or so,, which is to sign or promote players based on nationality (English mainly) rather than on actual football talent or quality.

This is the case with Scott - a "player" which was talantless on first sight since the academy, this was the case with Maguire, same case with Wan Bissaka, with Sancho, with Phil Jones, Welbeck, same case with stucking with Rio back in 2008 instead of promoting Pique. The transfer policy of Utd has led the club to the situation that is currently. Also lets admit it - midfield was never a priority area to enforce for the managers of Utd (except for Mourinho)

He has no sense of danger what so ever, how a player like him start week in week out in a club of our size?

I actually do understand it. As much criticism as I give him, the reality is that over the last couple of years the team as a whole has looked better with the combo of Fred-McTominay in it than it has with Matic and/or Pogba in there. Of course that's been mostly due to Fred doing the lions share of the work but (until Ralf came in anyway) not being able to play next to Matic, so Scott has basically taken that second spot by default. It's been a poor combo but it's somehow been our best.

The truly mind blowing thing is that we haven't tried to actually improve on Scott in the transfer market.

He has a reputation of working hard and being physical, but he isn't actually good at either of those things. He's just so poor on the ball and poor in terms of positioning (offensively and defensively), that we assume he must be good at something. Never seen a player make so many unnecessary fouls where he isn't even close to winning the ball. On the ball I would say I can pick out the pass he is going to make about 95% of the time. It is almost entirely the safest option, but frequently the wrong one.

Thought he actually done alright today, but I get he's a scapegoat for the general lethargy of the team.

 I genuinely can't remember him making one successful tackle, just a bunch of drag-on-shoulder fouls after being constantly beaten, so I wondered where this 3 tackles came from myself!

Not even good enough to be squad player. Him being the go to guy in midfield plays a large part in why we’re battling with West Ham for 6th while average as feck Arsenal and Spurs team comfortably finish above us.

Nothingness i'm afraid.

Can still be a squad player but i'll be very disappointed if he's in the first team a lot next season in the DM position.

Should have been replaced by Fred after 30 minutes (due to the entire teams deficiencies as much as his own).
