Admittedly, I don't, and I don't think you do either by the sounds of it.

Moving effortlessly into a number of positions is what comes with ten Hag's system. Let's take Frenkie De Jong, for example. At Ajax, he used to move into the defensive line and even popped up on the wing, at times. That doesn't mean ten Hag would play him as a centre back or winger.

Timber, as I said, is a centre back who is comfortable on the ball, but being able to ''hold the midfield'' as you described it, is a bit too much, especially as there's very little evidence, if any at all, to suggest this.

I personally feel the media hype has got to a lot of people regarding some players.

Only all their champions league games for the last few seasons and a few of their bigger league games through the last few seasons. I can only comment on what I’ve seen him do on the pitch, I’d say he’d do fine as a holding midfielder. ‘If’ we sign him well shall all have to wait and see where he’s played, but it’s pretty obvious he’s going to struggle in the air If he’s played in the centre of defence.

It's clearly a very small minority. I'm sure a dedicated lower league thread can be set-up if there's sufficient interest.

So he's not a specialist right back, nor holding midfielder and you have just said he'd struggle in the air at centre back if deployed there, so why would you buy him?

Do we really need more utility players or do we need specialists?

With AWB looking likely to be sold in the summer, we will only have Dalot as our only established right back. Williams could come back but jury is still out as to whether he can perform consistently at the highest level and Laird is not ready yet.

If we were to get Timber, my question is, is he good enough, especially from an attacking point of view, to be Manchester United's first choice right back?

That being said, I guess it does all depend on how ten Hag uses our right backs. He does tend to keep one back to create a three, with the other one pushing into the midfield position. With Shaw and Telles probably the more attacking players, it would make sense to keep our right back slightly more reserved

That's more the system he has played this season, though. However, if he goes back to the system we saw in 18/19, then he'd opt for two attacking full backs, with the centre midfielder (normally De Jong) dropping in to make a back three.

There's options, and a player like Timber would certainly provide versatility, but I guess it depends on how ten Hag would prefer us to play.

I don't want to derail this thread further, I just want to point out that I don't have an issue with Fridge's tweets. Your message seems to imply that I do. Apologies if I've got this wrong and that's not what you mean.
