They are maybe asking for it but sure we can negotiate it down to around 100 million euros especially since ETH has connections and some help from VDS
Isn't the problem that ajex don't need to sell and are reluctant to given the players they lost before the window opened. Hence why it may not have been a great idea to focus so much of our attention on ajax players

Yea but also it's a huge amount of money to a club like Ajax. This could be their big chance to profit from these players. I also see Ajax as very much a develop and sell club with the aim of making a profit.

Sterling seems pretty much done and that's a great signing. They definitely aren't having a great window so far. Pretty clear many of their main targets prefer moves to other clubs in De Ligt and Raphinha (tbf though if Barcelona can't fix their financial situation to the point where they can sign both Lewandowski and Raphinha, I wouldn't be too surprised to see him join Chelsea). Their team is still in a better place than ours. The one area they definitely need an upgrade is at cb. De Ligt is obviously their 1st choice, Kounde seems to be their 2nd (again Barcelona seem to be his 1st choice but this look like the transfer they're least likely to complete, so good chance Chelsea could get him imo). I find it funny reading some of the comments here from Chelsea fans because midfield is probably the next area they need to upgrade (assuming they sign Sterling). Jorginho's in the final year of his contract and had a drop off in performances last season. Kante's injuries finally caught up to him last season, he's missed large parts of the last few seasons with injuries, but his performances never seemed to be affected until last season where he was really poor whenever I watched him. Again, Kante is in the final year of his contract and I doubt Chelsea will renew. I can definitely see why they would be interested in De Jong or a similar midfielder.
The also have Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek, Mount and Connor Gallagher.

That's all well and good, but they might see themselves as something different and having to start again from scratch time and time again must be draining. Only their perspective matters when it comes to selling their players, especially so after losing so many in a single window. What's worse is it's key players, logically the cream of their crop. They'd be fools to not be turning the screw now on any club inquiring.

Had this been Liverpool he would have gone for £10M at least. What a shambles of a fecking club
Neco Williams just went for £17m, he made 15 appearances for Fulham last season in the championship ffs. Lord knows how Liverpool do it.
Levitt was going to be a free agent next season. He was about to become a free agent this season, but we triggered an option to automatically extend his contract a couple of months ago. Also, we had offers from other EFL clubs, which would have banked us more money, but we accepted Dundee United's offer instead probably because Levitt himself wants to go there.

Contrast that with Neco Williams' situation, whose contract with Liverpool would expire in 2025. He also doesn't have any particular wish for a specific club, so it's easier to sell him to the highest bidder. We probably might have banked a few million Pounds had we sold him to an English team, but that's not the case here.

Neco also has double the international caps than Levitt, has more experience having played at the highest level more, is undoubtedly a better player.

Also, the Williams deal is up to £17m, which suggests a healthy amount of add ons which bring it to that figure.

The deals and players are not comparable at all. Neco was on circa £25k a week at Liverpool, Levitt was on circa £4k a week. Chalk and cheese.

I know, but would anyone sing Ajax CL praises if it wasn't for that semifinal run?
I mean, the semi final run was before either of them joined the club, so I guess the sample size is nonexistent for them if you’re only counting that season. But I thought the point the poster was making is the level of their individual performances in the CL gives him comfort, not Ajax’s performance in the competition as a team.

Yeah that's probably fair enough. Don't want to derail any further, just slightly nervous that all our targets appear to be former players for big bucks and players from his former league. If it goes wrong, it'll go very wrong

We spent about €25m euros more on wasters like Maguire and AWB who hadn’t won a trophy between them or played CL football. If ETH wants them and values them, I don’t care how much we spend on them. If it’s only “unreasonable” because we don’t have enough money then fair enough.

Ajax owe us nothing and can ask what they want. Maybe they would have been cheaper if we enquired about them before the window opened when we knew ETH was coming. Rather spunk the money on them than FDJ who is oh so keen to join us.

ETH going for all these Ajax players will add major pressure on him and them. But I guess having worked with them closely he is absolutely sure they have what it takes.

Generous to consider Loftus-Cheek a real option. I think Mount is better in the front 3 personally, but obviously he can fill in in midfield if necessary. Gallagher's the one that could make a difference. I'm not sure what Tuchel sees his role as. However, even if he trusts him to be 1st choice I would expect he sees him as more of a replacement for Kante.

Gallagher FDJ Kovacic
Kante Jorginho Mount/RLC

Mount Havertz Sterling
Pulisic Broja Werner/CHO
That's how I would personally see Chelsea's midfield and attack options. Obviously, you could add in Raphinha, Ronaldo or a different striker if you thought they were also joining. I'm assuming Ziyech will be sold since they seem to be actively working on that and that Gilmour will go back on loan. I think just Sterling and FDJ/another mid would be enough for their front 6 positions personally. Cb biggest priority and then maybe a backup full back for squad depth (James/Azpi can both play rwb and cb also which gives them some extra depth).

If Frenkie would prefer to play for Barcelona I think we should just walk away from it

Loftus Cheek made 40 appearances last season. 24 in the league. Maybe not a first-choice player every week but he was a big part of the squad.

I still think this is posturing from Frenkie to get his money from Barca so they can't claim he was pushing for the transfer and weasel out of what is owed

He made appearances but I thought he looked awful anytime he played. The one thing RLC offers is that he's very flexible in the positions he can play. That's an advantage, particularly since Chelsea have quite a few injury prone players in the positions he covers. Now that Gallagher is back, I doubt he'll feature as frequently. Sterling coming in similarly will make him less useful, since Sterling can essentially cover any of the front 3 positions.
