Let’s see if he’s kept on the squad. The Uruguayan national team rate him very highly.
Needs another loan I reckon, in England this time. Needs to get used to living in the country.

There should be a Championship club sniffing around him. The boy can skin a player no problem and works very hard off the ball. I could see him doing very well in the Championship.

We can then look to bringing him into the fold next season. If he doesn't light it up then we know what we need to know and can sell him on.

Facundo Pellistri on regular match time:

Right now, I want to feel good again after the holidays, well trained, more than anything because this year is very important both at club and national team level. You have to be ready for everything and prepare well. I want to have the maximum continuity of minutes to try to arrive well.

I’m not looking for a particular league. It’s easy to say ‘earn minutes’ because nobody promises them to you, and you have to earn them. It’s a complicated search, but I’m going to try to find the best option to play, show myself and feel good.
On his Alavés spell:
I didn’t leave Alavés very happy, because I hardly played in any games. I left with a wonderful club, a wonderful group of people, a wonderful medical team and a wonderful staff. In that sense, even though it was complicated in terms of football, that whole period in Vitoria was wonderful. They never gave me a reason, but well? Every manager is different. Maybe they liked different things to what I could give them, and that’s totally respectable. It’s up to the coach to decide. I always gave my best, I trained 100%, and I was ready to play. The balance is negative. I would have liked to play more.
From the transfer forum. Thanks @mazhar13

The reason I could see him doing well under Ten Hag is that Pellistri seems to like coming short and carrying the ball and linking up and that's what Antony did last season very well.

It seems pointless to me when young players do really well in a poor league get bought by a big club, sits on the bench for a year without playing. So you buy them, let them loose their momentum, then loans them out to a poor team in a poor league where he probably wont play, and you sit back and say, if he can't even make it there, for the amount of money we paid that's not good enough. It's just bad player development at club level. Him and Diallo got bought because at the time we had failed in another transfer window and I guess 'we was supposed to buy some talents' so that's what we did.

I agree with the general point re how we cock up development but not with dismissing players due to how (or why) we went about getting them.

Facundo was doing well in the Copa Libertadores as well, not just the Uruguayan league. It also speaks volumes that the same club manager that gave him his debut aged 17 immediately called him up for make or break WCQs once made NT manager. Different challenges and pressure, same absolute confidence the kid would come through.

Ask any Peñarol fan for the top three homegrown talents in the last decade and they will all pick Valverde and Pellistri outright. Very few would have picked Nuñez a year ago and, even now, those (still not all) that pick him will add "well, you sure could tell he was a unit, hmmm, errr, wtf?".

I think this is a problem throughout top football. Young talents bought a little too early end up not being high profile enough to warrant a starting position, while players who choose to go to clubs in a "lesser" league (I don't mean this in a bad way) and do well tend to get massive moves that demand first team appearances. I think we have some very good players in our youth setup that will be ready to make the step up soon, and that we fans tend to overlook because our eyes are fixed on the best of the best around the world. I look at Hanibal, Pellistri, Diallo, Garnacho and Garner - and I see some pretty good footballers there. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw solutions to some of our issues come from our youth setup.

I'm very excited to see what Ten Hag can do with these boys.

Agree and that's one reason I'm not fussed about CR leaving. He is incompatible with blooding young talents and being patient as they develop end product... the way we once did with him, getting RvN miffed in the process.

Our average fan would have loaned Messi until he beefed up.

Would imagine the likes of him and Amad assuming they don’t go on loan will need to take advantage of the Europe League group stages/league cup.

I'd send Amad on loan again, but keep him this year. He seems to be more ready and is more versatile, can be used in 2-3 positions.

In the brief appearances he and Amad both got for the U23s I have to say I did think they both showed a lot of ability, I know everyone likes to take the piss out of those 2 signings but I get the feeling we'll get our money's worth in the long run. It's hard to describe but when you watch youth football enough you can sort of tell who has a shot at first team level and both gave me the impression they have a high enough ceiling for it, albeit there are still obstacles for them to overcome.

Another pre-season goal. I don’t see anything in him though. Thought he was very poor up until and after the goal, good in the build up and well taken though.

I think he’s a really talented player. Would probably rather keep him around than Amad, who just looks so weak to me.

He's going to win more fouls than Grealish with his dribbling technique.

Scored a good goal but he needs to work on his decision making. I really want Pellistri to make it but the problem he has is that the game has to be in front of him. When he can see every option he's good at picking the right one. However, he rarely looks around him before he receives the ball and sometimes misses things he should see as a result. I guess that's partly because of his loans not working out. He just hasn't had the game time to sharpen some of his instincts. However, there is still some responsibility on him to make it happen for himself. I hope he goes on loan somewhere he will actually play this season.

Excellent last pre-season. Productive, scores and assists. Loaned out.
Good start this pre-season. Productive. Scored..............

Not much more he can do. He shows up in pre-season, puts in the work on and off the ball and contributes in a direct way. I think he'll earn some rotational minutes for us, depending on the opposition.

Good break away and finish for his goal. A good sign that he can perform for the first team. Hopefully this gives him a lot of confidence and he can push on

Need to see more of him this preseason. I think he's the most ready for the back up role on the wing out of Elanga, Amad, Chong and Garnacho

It looks like he's off on loan to a team in either Italy or Portugual according to news emanating from Uruguay.

'Not played a single minute in United's last couple of pre-season games'

Which is correct and I guess a decision has been made.
He played in two of three preseason games. He scored against Liverpool.

I think it count the Melbourne Defeat, and Crystal Palace games. He didn't get minutes in those 2 games at all.

"latest two" would be easier to read than "last two" in that tweet.

He only got minutes against Liverpool and has been a unused sub against Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace.
Aha. I can only watch the highlights. The video quality is poor. I thought I saw him played in crystal palace game. My bad.

Pellistri will stay with Manchester United this season. His recent ankle injury blocked a way out.
