People all up in arms about what he's going to cost.

We’ve been burning through insane money for a decade now with minimal to show for it.
This kind of signing is going to put a lot of pressure on Murtough he was brought it to curve this kind of manger lead recruitment.

I agree. Also news of our incompetence seems spreading like wildfire. Nowadays even decent clubs like ajax are taking us to the cleaners. That's concerning

That is a worrying thing to say about one of the most expensive defenders ever. You’d really want to be buying the finished product or world class potential at that price.
What’s the list of most expensive defenders ever looking like?

He is sat at Ben White level fee so I assume he’s not that high on it?

I agree, it's just that I'm not sure any of them know the first thing about building a team for ETH. We might just end up with 5 more wan bissakas. The fact they were even trying to retain Phelan who spearheaded that ridiculous summer window says a lot.

As an Ajax fan, I'm really happy Man Utd overpaid for this transfer. I mean he is good, but 54 and maybe 64 is insane. Hope can smash it in the PL, would be very nice to see him and ETH succeed. GL!

Utd was up against Arsenal so that's always going to bring the price up by a chunk. All Ajax have to do is ask for the highest possible price one of the club's will say yes to.

Huge money for an Eredivisie CB who barely anyone here would have had as high priority pre transfer window.

I can see what he could bring in possession and with his agressive style. It will be good to have a left footed CB. But he will be an obvious weakness for set pieces.

Could be inspired, could be a disaster. I hope Ten Hag knows what he's doing.

Hoping he can form a good partnership with Varane!

So, who's leaving? Can't imagine it's Maguire.

Jones is surely a given by now?

Tuanzebe, Bailly, Lindeof...

I personally think we are over paying especially considering he was clearly our second choice behind Timber, but I guess that is the issue having the manager identifying the targets

From what I’ve seen though he is a good player, the height maybe an issue as a centre back, but lots of people seem to be thinking he maybe playing in midfield ? (Though not sure if that’s just wishful thinking?) Think if not there is a good chance he may mainly be back up to Varane and Maguire.

Hopefully now we will sell some centre backs as we have 7 if Martinez is gonna be a centre back. That’s too many. But there arn’t any strong rumours of anyone being intrested in out centre backs so that’s worrying.
Let’s get real, he’s not been signed to be backup. He’s been signed because he’s crucial to how this system works and the coach has identified that the CBs are not good enough. The question is who plays alongside him at CB

I believe that manchester city's dustbin bailed out early when it became evident that martinez wanted to join ETH

It seems like he was a priority for Arsenal, and they didn't back down after we expressed an interest.

Really happy you’ve lost your player of the season? Bit strange!

Find it odd people become so focused on the fees as if they personally are making/losing money.

Normally when we pull off a big signing I'm pleased, and then they tend to underwhelm.
So hopefully the fact i'm nervous about this one means it'll be brilliant!

He was a priority until he flat out refused them and told Ajax he wanted United. Then they moved on.

Hilarious seeing Gooners celebrating buying Citeh's benchwarmer for cheaper as some sort of win when they couldn't get Arteta's no.1 target. Also seeing some mocking the fee without a hint of irony after spending more money on Ben White a year ago

He is definitely not our best player. Timber is way better. Although Martinez is an OK player, but holy crap Manchester got shafted in my honest opinion. I think 40 million would have been the absolute max. All Ajax fans are really surprised by it. With Bassey as his replacement, I think we will do alright actually. Hope you guys don't go for Antony haha, because I would mind losing him.

it’s only normal they find something to console them with losing the player. he’s not wrong it’s amazing money for a CB. We should both be happy.

Well, one thing we can safely assume is that the second most expensive defender ever in club history is not being signed to be a squad player so who makes way in the 11? Prime candidates are Maguire, Varane, Mctominay, Fred.

I hope he works out. We have habitually bought expensive defenders almost every Summer for very high fees for the last few years and none of them have turned out to be any good (Varane has skill but that is irrelevant when he cannot stay healthy for more than five games). It’s time we get someone who can play and be good.

He was a priority but once we went for him, he pretty much had made his mind to join us. The good news svout this deal is that he's not injury prone and that he's versatile. Which means that if things don't work out as a CB then we can move him as a DM

Big money so he needs to hit the ground running really. Could really do with this one working out to be honest, we can't afford many more big busted flushes.

Lisandro Martinez hardly played at LB & when he did, he wasn't that good. DM he did decent but Ten Hag felt he didn't have the stamina for it full-time, he can be used there though. He should play CB where he predominantly has played & where he's excelled. Unfortunately, I think Ten Hag will play him as a DM. Because if he plays him as CB he has to drop either Maguire or Varane. You can’t put Varane on the bench on ability. Maguire is captain so I think he will play CDM. That’s just my theory.

Looks solid on highlights but doesn’t everyone. Quick in the tackle, excellent long passing and seems to have good acceleration. Think he’ll do well.
