Sky Sports top transfer reporter calling him Frankie over and over again is just cringe worthy. It's your job to know more than the average fan about footballers ffs!!

At least he's saying what we all know: Barca want him out but don't want to pay him.

This reads like you think he's got a secret name that the reporter should know and use

In a fresh report on Monday, Catalan newspaper Sportsay Barca want to end the ‘soap opera’ as soon as possible. To try and make this happen there’s going to be a meeting in the ‘next few hours’ with De Jong, in an attempt to ‘untangle’ the situation.

It's more a case of him being desperate not to join us as he sees us as a bit of a joke, rather than him being desperate to stay at Barca and play CB IMO. If City, PSG or Bayern came in for him I reckon they'd get a deal done for him pretty quickly.

We just don't have the pull anymore, and we need to get our scouting department sorted out so that we can start pursuing shrewder targets and begin slowly rebuilding our reputation.
Sounds like a bit of personal projection here. You alright there buddy?

Xavi now sees FDJ as a CB.. and at the same time they are signing Kounde. So FDJ will play second fiddle both as CB and as cm.

I hate this post and every other tiresome variant of it.

While what you're saying is of course right, I think we'd see Barca get quite nasty if he refused to leave and refused the wage reduction
They can damage him as a footballer of course but that just reduces the sale value of the asset. Presumably there is an accountant somewhere who gives no feks about the muppetry, who is just saying path x is cheaper than path y and once the facing off and being nasty has been done we, Barca, still have to take path x. Path x is most likely paying FdJ amount z, which is the smallest amount he is owed that he is willing to accept, in order to leave.

The only real question is getting agreement on amount z. Anyone can see that the cards are with FdJ as failure to agree amount z causes more harm to Barca than it does to him. That's where we still are and where we will likely stay till the end of the transfer window. Everything else appears to be noise.

When they say "next few hours" do they mean 24+ because this was the news this morning FFS.

Stop treating Frenkie like a slave, Barca. #savefrenkie #barceholes
Well Frenkie is over here in the states at the moment so it is early morning, he is probably finishing off his pancake stack at Denny's before heading into the meeting. In truth I don't think this article is saying much, we know they want Frenkie to leave but unless they are bringing his cash in unmarked bills to the meeting he is not likely to change his stance.

Exactly, I mean Murtough has been at the club a decade and DOF over a year, if the scouts were that Inept he would have known that and should off had plans in place.
Maybe he didn’t have all that power under woody? Woody seems to have been a let’s try and recreate SAF whereas Arnold seems to be more modern in his thinking. I think it’s pointless judging him from woodys time. The job starts now. Anyway let’s not derail this thread it’s nothing to do with frenkie, that’s all on Barca

Ah god so close, I want to believe this and get all giddy, but it had to be bloody sport didn’t it!
Next few hours could be anywhere from 3 hours - 3 weeks. We're still waiting for that Chelsea bid that was due in the next few hours last week.

Yeah you really can’t judge anyone now until the window closes. It’s a new team in new roles. We can hold a post mortem in September but none of them have done anything yet to get upset about. Let’s see how it turns out.

Never deal with Barca again after this (I remember saying the opposite months ago when this looked to be going swimmingly and FDJ looked a cert to be our first signing)

Who is buying these levers? I bet it's the Spanish government or something
American companies that speculate in football interest growing and there being a bidding war for TV rights shortly where major companies (Amazon, CBS, NBC, Fox) will all battle it out. There's a similar speculation about the premiership - which is partly why Chelsea owners have spent 4.5bn - they all reckon it will be worth far more than that in the not so distant future.

I think after being messed about in the past with incompetent members of staff and the sorts, it's difficult for people to change their way of thinking when you see what you believe to be the same stuff happening again

I get that but I do think there needs to be a period of benefit of the doubt. It’s a new team - even the scouts left and have been restructured.

I'm amazed he got the DOF job if he had that many disagreements about how Woody was running the club. Reports say that Murtough had a close relationship with Woodward. I do wonder how much of this management shakeup is just PR by Murtough / Arnold.

He wasn't DOF for a decade. He was doing stuff like rebuilding the youth side, women's team etc. and took over as DOF in 2021. He was given autonomy on player recruitment only this year.
