City winning the league by a 90+ point margin would be so depressing.
Is that like, even possible?

I think the maximum margin possible is 78 (Champion wins all their games, the other teams all draw against each other)

@Wumminator would probably still call it the most competitive quality league in the world (GD separates 2 through 20!!!)

Tbh I didn't do the math beforehand but technically that would be incredibly competitive for 19 teams. If everyone else draws against the other 18 sides and loses to City, then it comes down to who City can score the most against right?

I'm all for hypothetical scenarios like these. I remember working out a few years ago that the most points a team could get relegated on is 63 if the bottom 2 lose all their games and the rest of the league win one and lose one against each other opposition team. Every team would finish on 63 and the one with the worst goal difference would go down.

Very curious why pretty much everyone in here is predicting us (Chelsea) to take a considerable step back despite us pretty considerably improving our team. We are superior in literally every single position on the pitch to Spurs except for striker.
Tuchel meltdown incoming

1. United: Up & up & up. Manager rising, good players finally coached. Sancho POTS. (Assume de Jong, Antony, and a content with bench ronaldo)
2. City: Donkey Haaland, SIUUU syndrome: Golden boot but < team goals. Pep announces he's leaving by April.
3. Spurs: Could have been better but Conte falls out with Levy.
4. Pool: Injury crisis, Nuñez doesn't work as expected, Klopp falls on the street and breaks his teeth and glasses, replaces them with LED teeth and dorkier glasses.
5. Arsenal: Meh.
6. Chelsea: should have been better, but new owners are cnuts and Tuchel falls out with them and fecks off mid season. OGS is appointed.

1. City. Adding Haaland to that squad makes them crazy potent.
2. Chelsea. Think they will add more quality before the end of the window. New owners seems dedicated.
3. Liverpool. Loss of Sane hurts and Klopp approach will start to wear on aging squad.
4. Spurs. Great manager and made some quality additions to go with good front three.
5. Arsenal. Made some good pickups. Not getting injuries/other absences to key players even more important for Arsenal.
6. United. Think it is going to take time for new manager to sort things out.

1. City - oddly I think haaland will improve them defensively. Meh
2. Liverpool - probably another 90+ point season and they will cry because in any other era that would likely have won the league.
3. Chelsea - tough between these, Utd and Spuds. But gonna plump for Chelsea here. No real reason, not sure how to judge them right now.
4. Utd - Should see a solid improvement on last few seasons regardless of signings. First coach you lot have had post Fergie that seems sensible.
5. Spurs - could easily push up but think they will just be a little light squad wise. Conte head will explode at point because of Levy.
6. Arsenal - usual site from arsenal, ups and downs.

Predicting the top end is pretty boring these days.

Will be reckless and say Fulham and Forest will both stay up (Bournemouth will be 20th). So a few established prem teams in big danger, will say Leeds and Southampton getting relegated.

Come on then Redcafe experts, what will the table look like in May? You can wait until the transfer window shuts but I'm good to go with the top side:

1. City
2. Liverpool
3. Chelsea
4. Spurs
5. Utd
6. Arsenal
7. West Ham
I still remember last seasons predictions where a lot on here had Liverpool not even finishing in the top 4 because of their previous season. I always found that bizarre considering they literally had 4 centre backs coming back in for the new season.

1. Liverpool
2. City
3. Tottenham
4. Arsenal
5. Chelsea
6. United

Will probably change once the window closes though

I think it'll be a bit hard for City and Liverpool to maintain their standards. It's not easy mentally to keep going for 90+ points each season, and the competition is getting harder than ever. Liverpool seems a bit more vulnerable than city due to the lack of squad depth. Chelsea will be going through a big transition in defense and attack so don't think they'll be making a push for the title. I'm fancying united to have a surprisingly good season.

City and Liverpool still the best two sides. Spurs should be disappointed if they don't get third given the manager they have, the time he's had with the team and the fact that they seem pleased with their transfer business. Chelsea have issues, highlighted by Tuchel himself earlier. We'll improve but we have a lot of improving to do.

Reckon it’ll be between us and Liverpool again. Chelsea will close the gap a bit with their improvements and I think after another window or two they’ll be strong title contenders for 2023/24. I’m not convinced that Spurs will gel completely but still think they’ll have the quality to finish in the top 4. United’s stronger defence will place them above Arsenal.

1. City/Liverpool
2. Liverpool/City
3. Chelsea
4. Spurs
5. United
6. Arsenal
I agree with you for top 3 but think we’ll edge it to 4th… think our style of play will get us over the line compared to Tottenham’s more cautious approach. Arsenal are a decent defence away from challenging for top 4.

City and Liverpool clear of everyone else. So the competition for 3rd and 4th will be brutal. Spurs I think have a high chance to finish 3rd if Conte doesn't implode mid-season. Arsenal have a shot at fourth simply because Chelsea look in dire straits so far and I can't see them improving that much. We might move up if, and that's a big if, we get De Jong and Antony. Otherwise we will be battling it out with West Ham for Europe again. Haaland Golden Boot.

Can all those predicted us to finish in the top four produce some evidence for that? I know logic doesn't come into football great deal but the sides who finished ahead of us last season have all strengthened to a greater degree than us (so far) so, other than blind optimism, I can't see why we would improve dramatically more than them

As things stand:

1.Liverpool
2. City
3. Spurs
4. Chelsea
5. United
6. Arsenal
7. West Ham
8. Newcastle

A fourth place spot might open-up since I expect Chelsea will have one of their random underperforming seasons, but don’t think either Arsenal or us will be consistent enough to take advantage.

I also suspect West Ham will regress, but 7th is pretty much the Moyes spot, so I’ll keep him there. Newcastle might make Europe, but another season probably more likely.

And then some order of:

18. Bournemouth
19. Fulham
20. Leeds

Think its a combo of City/Liverpool/Spurs top 3, then Chelsea in 4.

3 of the 4 of Everton Bournemouth Forest and Fulham to drop

I suspect it is Ten Hag that they believe will instigate the improvement. You have also seen some rumored divisive/problematic personalities (Pogba, Jlingz) leave the club - so maybe some addition by subtraction.

As my dad used to say: "Possibly the pissiest lager in the world..." If he ordered a beer and was offered Carlsberg, he would explain nun-too-politely that he'd asked for a lager!

Top two will run away again, but with Chelsea a bit closer. Spurs haven’t strengthened; their signings do not make them better, but more confused.

I think Arsenal will surprise a lot of people and sneak into the top4.

not sure where the evidence is for saying Spurs haven't strengthened. If that's so, United certainly haven't

Not so much evidence, more opinion. I don’t think Richarlison gets in the team, I don’t think Perisic adds anything, Spence is unknown, Bissouma is ok but not going to propel them into a title challenge, Lenglet was a clown at the biggest circus in Europe.

Personnel-wise, I think United’s biggest improvement is Ten Hag in for Ralf. At least I hope so. I also think a lot of the out of form players (Rashford, Shaw, Martial etc.) will rediscover some form. Again, I hope so. Still, in my predictions I only had us improving from 6th to 5th.

Im surprised many are putting United over Arsenal.

Arsenal have a better squad every way you look at it. The only guys from United who would get into their team right now is Bruno and Varane. De Gea as well but Arsenal has a good enough keeper to where I would not be bending over backwards to swap with De Gea.

Lisandro and Malacia are unknown as of now but even if you add them its 4 out of 11.

Arsenal have a really interesting team.
